Breaking down the Jacksonville Jaguars' pick
Ransaw played at Troy for three seasons before transferring to Tulane in 2024. He will bring speed and versatility to the Jaguars' defense.
He ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine and has experience lining up at multiple positions. In this most recent season, Ransaw mostly lined up in the nickel, but he does have some boundary experience from his time at Troy and played in the box as well at both schools.
At both stops, Ransaw has proven to be a reliable tackler, which has made him a stout run defender, and in coverage, he was quite stingy last season, allowing a completion rate of just 44% at 14.8 yards per catch with one pass breakup, per PFF.
Given Ransaw's experience playing near the line of scrimmage, he could potentially compete right away for playing time at strong safety in the Jaguars' defense, pairing with free agent Eric Murray, Jacksonville's free safety.
Caleb Ransaw's scouting report
NFL.com
Lance Zierlein: "Ransaw already plays with an NFL field demeanor, utilizing his good size and strength. He is terrific as a big nickel supporting the run but he might not have the cover talent to hold up in man coverage against NFL slot receivers. He's capable in zone and might be rugged enough to line up over big slots and pass-catching tight ends. If he can't hold up as a slot, a move to safety could be a comfortable transition. Ransaw has the tools to play as a pro, but scheme fit could decide his ceiling and productivity."
They said it
James Gladstone: "One of the things that really jumps out more than anything is the versatility," Gladstone said via Jaguars on SI. "As we look at that defensive back room, obviously the capacity to play corner, play safety, he showcased the post work at the All-Star Circuit that really jumped out. Obviously, if you were to ever look at his stat page, what stands out is his tackle ratio. The root word of the position safety is safe, and he's somebody that can make sure that when there is someone who gets loose, he can get them down."

Jayden Daniels Reveals Thoughts on Frustrated Commanders WR

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Before he reaches year two in the NFL, Washington Commanders wide receiver Jayden Daniels is watching a potential holdout situation play out. If Terry McLaurin feels he has to force his team's hand to offer him a new deal, it could directly affect the sophomore passer. Fortunately for the Commanders, Daniels hasn't lost his focus. He remains in good standing with his All-Pro weapon and, ultimately, understands that the business side of the game sometimes overshadows the rest. Recently, Daniels spoke on the situation involving McLaurin, which includes an absence from minicamp. PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - NOVEMBER 14: Jayden Daniels #5 of the Washington Commanders celebrates after a touchdown during an NFL Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on November 14, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More"Me and Terry have a good relationship outside of football," Daniels told reporters recently, according to Pro Football Talk. "Obviously, he has to handle what he has to handle, but that doesn't change anything, the fact that he is part of our brotherhood. We know Terry is working and everything. We have to get better, and he knows he has to get better each and every day." Commanders head coach Dan Quinn didn't have much to say on the matter outside of confirming that he's been in contact with the star wideout, and claims that McLaurin has had a "great offseason," based on their discussions. What's the Latest on the Terry McLaurin Saga in Washington? On Thursday, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that McLaurin has "made it clear" to the Commanders' organization that he's frustrated with the lack of progress in contract discussions. Sources: #Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has made it clear to the team that he's frustrated with the lack of progress on a long-term deal. As I previously reported, McLaurin unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending, and it remains to be seen whether… — Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) June 5, 2025 McLaurin, who's entering the final season of his current contract, does not have an extension in place. Clearly, the star wideout wants to lock in a new deal before heading into the 2025 NFL season. Securing money for the future, while eliminating the distractions of talking shop throughout the year, should be a priority for a team that hopes to make a deep postseason run in 2026. While McLaurin's absence at minicamp recently was notable and seemingly part of plan to make a push for a new deal, he was required to attend. When it comes to June 10-12, those are the dates to really keep an eye on. According to Schultz, McLaurin's plans for attending the mandatory phase of minicamp are unknown. "It remains to be seen" is the messaging coming from reports. While the situation is far from ideal, the Commanders remain in a good spot, especially since Daniels is seemingly comfortable with the situation. The last thing Washington wants to do is find a reason to break up the duo. In 17 games with Daniels under center, McLaurin thrived by catching 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. For the second time in his career, McLaurin was a Pro Bowler. He was voted Second-term All-Pro in 2024.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott, George Pickens Near Top of NFL List

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Clearly, the NFL world is buying in on the Dallas Cowboys' new quarterback-reciever duo. When the Cowboys struck a deal to take George Pickens off the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster, Dallas' front office received a ton of praise for getting Dak Prescott a new weapon to work with. Recently, CBS Sports ranked the NFL's newest duos of wide receivers and quarterbacks, and the Prescott-Pickens tandem nearly topped the list. Coming in at No. 2, CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan placed the Cowboys duo, suggesting that Prescott got himself a "much-needed secondary weapon." "In 2024, it was a combination of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields [for Pickens]," Sullivan wrote. "So, going from that to Dak Prescott should be looked at as a rather sizable upgrade. That's especially true if Prescott stays healthy and looks like his 2023 self, where he finished second in NFL MVP voting." Back in 2022, Pickens landed in the NFL Draft after a three-year run at Georgia. He appeared in 24 NCAA games, catching 90 passes for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. When the Steelers went on the clock with the 52nd overall pick in the second round, they called on Pickens to become a key contributor to their offense right out of the gate. It was hard to argue Pickens' progress as a rookie. In 17 games, he totaled 801 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns. By year two, he led the NFL in yards per reception with 18, and scored five touchdowns while going for over 1,100 receiving yards. SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 27: Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys warms up prior to a game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on October 27, 2024 in Santa Clara, California. Cowboys' Dak Prescott reveals concerning details about new injury. More Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images The 2024 NFL season didn't go the way the Steelers had hoped. When they picked up Russell Wilson after his Denver Broncos tenure, there was an assumption that the Steelers could be a team to help the veteran get back on track. A young Pickens was there to help. However, the Steelers couldn't find stability at the quarterback position. Wilson and Justin Fields were both under center at a point, giving Pickens another season with a lack of stability at the quarterback position. Over the past two seasons, Pickens has dealt with five different passers. Once Pickens got to Dallas, there was no question about who was going to be under center. Dak Prescott is the guy. There's no guarantee the duo will work out, especially since Pickens doesn't jump CeeDee Lamb for the top spot on the depth chart, but the odds of the two parties helping each other are high, hence why the duo ranked second on the list, in front of the Washington Commanders' Deebo-Daniels duo. Who's in front of Dak and Pickens? Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams of the LA Rams.

Aaron Rodgers joins Steelers: Notable players to play for both Packers and Steelers

Aaron Rodgers joins Steelers: Notable players to play for both Packers and Steelers Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team announced an agreement with Rodgers, 41, on a one-year deal pending a physical. The Packers and Steelers are two of the NFL's most iconic, popular and winningest franchises. And by signing with the Steelers after playing 18 seasons with the Packers, Rodgers is joining a fairly rare group of players who have played for both teams. Here are some notable players to play for both the Packers and Steelers: OLB Preston Smith: The Packers dealt Smith to the Steelers for a seventh-round pick (turned into CB Micah Robinson) before the trade deadline in 2024. Smith played in 91 games for the Packers but just eight in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers released him after the season. DL Dean Lowry: A draft pick of the Packers who played 111 games in Green Bay between 2016 and 2022, Lowry spent the 2024 season in Pittsburgh and remains on the Steelers offseason roster. S Morgan Burnett: A second-round pick in 2010, Burnett played 102 games with the Packers before playing one of his final two NFL seasons in Pittsburgh in 2018. The 10-year veteran retired following the 2019 season. LB Blake Martinez: The 2016 fourth-round pick of the Packers played his final NFL season with the Steelers in 2023 but appeared in just one game in Pittsburgh after arriving in November. DL Montravius Adams: Adams started only three games over 45 appearances with the Packers after being drafted in the third round in 2017, but he was a 21-game starter over 46 appearances with the Steelers between 2021 and 2024. He was released in April. FB John Kuhn: The All-Pro fullback won a title with the Steelers in Super Bowl XL and then won a second title in a win over the Steelers as a member of the Packers in Super Bowl XLV. The Pennsylvania native played two years in Pittsburgh before spending eight impressive seasons in Green Bay. RB Najeh Davenport: The big, bruising running back rushed for over 1,000 yards and seven scores over four seasons in Green Bay (2002-05) before going to Pittsburgh and rushing for over 700 yards and scoring nine times over three seasons with the Steelers (2006-08) HB Johnny "Blood" McNally: The Pro Football Hall of Famer won four titles with the Packers and later spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who became the Steelers. McNally also coached the Pirates following his playing career. OL Tunch Ilkin: A two-time Pro Bowler who appeared in 176 games for the Steelers, Ilkin played in one game for the Packers during his final NFL season in 1993. He was a vice president of the NFLPA and a radio color analyst for the Steelers following his playing career. DL Gerald Williams: Like Ilkin, Wiliams was a long-time Steeler who finished his career with the Packers. He played in 120 games in Pittsburgh (1986-94) before appearing in just four games for the Packers in 1997. S Anthony Smith: A two-time Super Bowl champion -- once with the Steelers (XLIII) and once with the Packers (XLV). QB Mike Tomczak: He started seven games for the Packers in 1991 before eventually landing in Pittsburgh, where he played in 84 games and made 27 starts over seven seasons (1993-99). Others to play for both teams: DB Dave Brown WR Jon Staggers OL Bruce Van Dyke DL/K Lou Michaels DL Lloyd Voss CB Chandon Sullivan LB Hardy Nickerson CB Josh Jackson OLB Jayrone Elliott P Jeremy Kapinos LB/S Tariq Carpenter DB John Rowser KR Allen Rossum FB Earl Gros TE John Hilton WR Red Mack QB Steve Bono The Packers and Steelers will face off in primetime in Week 8. Former Packers on the Steelers roster currently are Rodgers and Lowry. Since Rodgers and the Packers beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV in January of 2011, the Steelers have won three of the last four games over the Packers, including a 23-19 win over Jordan Love and Matt LaFleur in 2023.
