Chhattisgarh HC Orders Rs 25,000 Compensation For Students Who Ate Dog-Soiled Mid-Day Meals

While the students had alerted the teachers, who then instructed the SHG members not to serve the food, the warning was ignored and the food was served anyway. The Chhattisgarh High Court has ordered the government to give Rs 25,000 to the students who were served mid-day meals soiled by a dog. The incident dates back to July 28, when as many as 84 students at a government middle school in Lachchhanpur village in Balodabazar-Bhatapara consumed food soiled by a dog. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru, while delivering the order on Tuesday, noted the ignorance on the part of the government and did not consider the state's argument that the affected students were administered three doses of anti-rabies vaccine and were also found healthy after the check-up. The High Court took suo motu cognisance of the incident, and also sought an affidavit from the state government. According to an inquiry report submitted by the government in the court, a dog soiled the food served as a part of the mid-day meal scheme. The food for the government is prepared by a self-help group (SHG). view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
