Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini announced that Jyotisar, the revered site where Lord Krishna delivered the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, is being developed into a grand and globally renowned historic tourism destination.
The state government is investing approximately Rs 250 crore to transform Jyotisar into a world-class spiritual and experiential centre that will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Kurukshetra.
The CM made this announcement while inspecting the Mahabharata Anubhav Kendra(Experiential Centre). He was accompanied by RSS ideologue and Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, senior government officials, and local BJP leaders.
During the visit, CM Saini closely examined various thematic galleries, including the Mahabharata chamber, Kuru dynasty timeline, Gita shlokas, Krishna's role, and the Dashavatar gallery.
Officials from the Haryana Tourism Department, including Principal Secretary Kalachandran and Director Shaleen, briefed the CM on the project's current status and future plans through a detailed presentation. He emphasized that visitors from India and abroad will experience the living history of Mahabharata at Jyotisar.
The CM offered prayers for the prosperity of the people of Haryana at the Shri Shri Kripa Bihari Mandir located in the Gita Gyan Sansthanam, and held a discussion with Swami Gyananand Maharaj, who runs this private Gita institute.
Speaking to the media, CM Saini stated, 'Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's cultural heritage has been significantly strengthened.
The development of Jyotisar on a Mahabharata-themed project is a testimony to our commitment to preserving our spiritual legacy.' He added that the PM has been invited to visit Kurukshetra, and if he accepts, it will be a historic moment for the region.
He also announced that the Kalpana Chawla Planetarium will soon be reopened for tourists and reiterated that Jyotisar will emerge as one of the most iconic heritage sites in the world.
9200 buses arranged for CET examinees
On youth welfare, CM Saini highlighted that the state government has made extensive arrangements for the upcoming CET Group-C exam, to be held on July 26 and 27. Over 13.87 lakh candidates have applied, and 9,200 buses, including those from Haryana Roadways and private schools, will transport candidates to and from their exam centers. A family member accompanying a female candidate will also be allowed to travel free of cost.
On Robert Vadra and Punjab politics
Responding to a media query on Robert Vadra, CM Saini stated that the ongoing investigations are part of long-standing corruption cases dating back to the Congress regime, where 'rules were flouted to benefit a few elites, including Vadra, at the cost of the poor.'
When asked about Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Saini alleged that 'other forces seem to be controlling the government, and often the CM himself appears unaware of what's happening under his leadership.'
Several prominent personalities and officials were present during the inspection, including former minister Subhash Sudha, senior BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Sharma, OSD Bharat Bhushan Bharti, DC Neha Singh, SP Nitish Aggarwal, and members of the Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board, among others.

Mahalakshmi scheme: Decision on Rs 2.5K monthly payout to women likely

Hyderabad: The State government is likely to take a decision on the long pending Rs 2,500 monthly allowance for women under the Mahalakshmi scheme in the Cabinet meeting convened by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on July 25. The promise of providing financial assistance to women every month has been pending since the Congress came to power in the state. The pending issue of the promulgation of ordinance for 42 per cent BC quota and the schedule for local body elections will also be on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting. Sources said that the state Finance wing was preparing a report to ascertain financial requirements for the new scheme of monthly financial assistance to women. 'The state government is eyeing to woo the women voters and a policy decision on Rs 2,500 for women will help the Congress win majority of local bodies in the ensuing elections', sources said, adding that the Opposition parties were already targeting the government for not fulfilling the scheme which gained a lot of attention during the 2023 Assembly elections. Due to financial challenges, the government has not taken any decision on the launch of the scheme till now. Free RTC bus travel for women, interest free loans to women self-help groups, financial assistance to women to establish solar power plants and provide hire buses to RTC, have already helped the government to consolidate women's support to the Congress. 'Financial requirements and eligibility criteria are important to launch the scheme before the State Election Commission issues notification for local body elections', sources said. State Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao instructed the Secretaries of all departments to send agenda items duly approved for consideration of the Cabinet in the meeting, officials said. The meeting is also expected to discuss the allocation of funds to various welfare schemes.

Totapuri mango farmers to get Rs 176 cr subsidy from Centre & state

Tirupati: Totapuri mango farmers across the erstwhile Chittoor district heaved a sigh of relief, with the Central government stepping in to share the financial burden of the Rs 4 per kg subsidy announced earlier by the Andhra Pradesh government. The move has brought hope to thousands of cultivators who have been battling poor market prices and mounting losses through the season. The Centre has formally approved the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for Totapuri mangoes on Tuesday and will contribute Rs 1.86 per kg. The State Government has matched that contribution, taking the combined subsidy to Rs 3.72 per kg. Since the State had already promised a Rs 4 per kg support, it will bear the remaining Rs 0.28, ensuring farmers receive the full benefit. The announcement follows a request from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had proactively declared the subsidy even before farmer protests surfaced. Citing the Centre's earlier decision to support mango growers in Karnataka under the MIS, the Chief Minister urged for a similar relief package for Andhra farmers which was now accepted by the Central government. 'This subsidy is a game-changer. We had no bargaining power in the market. The prices were crashing, and many were preparing to dump their produce. Now at least we will be able to recover our investment,' said R Lakshmi Narayana, a Totapuri grower from Puthalapattu. An estimated 3.25 lakh tonne mangoes have already been procured in the Chittoor district. With 15,000 tonne still expected to be harvested, the total eligible quantity may reach 3.4 lakh tonne. The financial outlay for the subsidy is projected at Rs 136 crore, with the Centre bearing Rs 63.24 crore and the state Rs 72.76 crore. In Tirupati and Annamayya districts together, close to one lakh tonne have been processed, with the Centre contributing Rs 18.6 crore and the State Rs 21.4 crore. Altogether, the total support for Totapuri growers in the region is expected to exceed Rs 176 crore, Rs 81.84 crore from the Centre and Rs 94.16 crore from the state government. Importantly, the state government has chosen not to impose restrictions present in the Centre's MIS guidelines implemented in Karnataka, such as capping support at five tonne per hectare and two hectares per farmer. This flexible approach has allowed several large-scale farmers to receive subsidies of up to Rs 2 lakh, compared to a maximum of Rs 40,000 per farmer in Karnataka. With mango arrivals now dropping to around 1,000 tonne per day from a peak of 10,000–11,000 tonne earlier, officials are focusing on verifying beneficiary lists prepared through Rythu Seva Kendras. Disbursement of subsidy is expected to begin by August 15. Officials have termed the Centre's response as timely and effective. 'This is a rare example of Centre-State collaboration where farmers are the real beneficiaries,' said a senior agriculture official, noting that the intervention could set a positive precedent for cooperative farm policies in times of market distress.
