EPISODE PREMIERES SUNDAY, JUNE 15 AT 8PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY – (June 10, 2024) – The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper , a five-time Emmy® Award-winning CNN Original, returns with a powerful portrait of a multi-racial Southern family that confronts and explores its painful shared history— and comes together in spite of it. 'The Simril(l)s: A Family in Black and White' with CNN Anchor/Senior National Correspondent Sara Sidner premieres Sunday, June 15 at 8pm ET/PT on CNN.
In York County, South Carolina, two halves of the Simril(l) family exist: the white side, descended from slave holders, and the Black side, descended from people enslaved on the Simril plantation. The two were segregated for over a century— unaware of their shared background— until Spenser Simrill began reaching out to others with the same last name 11 years ago, in the hopes of learning more about his family's clouded history. What he and his newfound relatives uncovered was a complicated legacy built around slavery, Reconstruction Era racial terrorism, and the unbelievable villains and heroes at the center of it.
As they prepare for their 2025 reunion celebration, Spenser Simrill and Michael Simril continue their search to unearth more of the Simril(l) story. They investigate their ancestors' violent run-ins with Klansmen in the county, as well as their family's 1871 migration to Liberia in pursuit of economic prosperity. Together, the Simril(l)s of today consider how their blended families can share resources moving forward, enrich each other's lives, and serve as a blueprint for racial healing.
'The Simril(l) lineage is full of remarkable characters who were unafraid to challenge power at fraught times in our nation's history,' said Sidner. 'I was so taken not only with their story, but also their ability to embrace it with such grace and dignity. As we look to the Juneteenth holiday, I see this family as a model for how we can all reckon with our pasts to forge a better, more united future.'
The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper is a collection of unique and immersive single subject, one-hour episodes from CNN's Emmy® and Peabody Award-winning longform storytelling team showcasing character-driven stories, special interviews, and investigative deep dives featuring reporting from CNN's anchors and correspondents . The series is executive produced by Susan Chun.
The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper will stream live for pay TV subscribers via CNN.com , CNN connected TV and mobile apps on Sunday, March 30. 'Fentanyl in America: A Way Out' will also be available on demand beginning Monday, March 31 to pay TV subscribers via CNN.com, CNN connected TV and mobile apps, and Cable Operator Platforms. ‘Hazardous History With Henry Winkler' Review: Perilous Products and Pastimes

Former children who had the skin peeled off their legs by a 150-degree-Fahrenheit playground slide, broke an arm falling off the monkey bars or became impaled on human teeth at Action Park will have a fondness for 'Hazardous History With Henry Winkler.' It's a goofball series with no production values that celebrates a world with no rules—rules that keep humans from killing themselves. Is there a message? Yes, that our affinity for self-destruction knows no limits. But to paraphrase Mark Twain, persons attempting to find a moral here will be shot, perhaps by a flame-throwing '40s-era 'toy' pistol that fired ping-pong balls at about 50 mph. 'Thrilling' and 'exciting' are how the former Fonz describes the days of unlicensed drivers, head-on train collisions staged as entertainment, and radioactive children's 'laboratories' that came in a box with uranium. But the experts interviewed—who range from an astrophysicist to a 'Jeopardy!' champion—are mostly incredulous. What kind of world do we live in where popular amusements once involved people riding horses off diving boards, getting in boxing rings with bears, and wrestling octopuses? Well, as the show spells out without spelling it out, a world in which everything that works, or is fun, is taken to an extreme—at which point regulations come into it, if only to protect the animals.

IRONHEART Actress Dominique Thorne Says in Light of Robert Downey Jr.'s Approval of Her Character, Fans Should "Get on the Bandwagon" — GeekTyrant

Ironheart actress Dominique Thorne made her Marvel debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and the character filled a bit of a void left by Tony Stark when he was ultimately sacrificed in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The parallels are obvious, with the pair each being tech geniuses who have the capability to create highly advanced robotics to help serve the good guys in the fight against evil. While Thorne's return to the MCU has been drawn out, we will see her return to play the lead in the Ironheart series, out later this month, and she teased a possible appearance in the upcoming Avengers films. In a recent interview with The Direct, Thorne was asked if we could expect to see her in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars . She responded, coyly, "Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see." For fans who have not yet embraced her character, Thorne threw around the fact that Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. himself has endorsed her, saying: "I would say get on the bandwagon. It's here. We're here... I mean, Tony's on the bandwagon, so you know, what's the problem? RDJ is here. It's nice here. It's cute here. It's comfy here. It smells good here." She also teased Riri's abilities in the upcoming series, stating, "I think we've got little tastes and teases of that previously. Throughout, you know, the phases that have led us here. But this, absolutely, to me, feels like new territory in terms of how tech and magic can merge, how they can work together, how they might clash. 'It's fun, it's exciting, it's dangerous, it's risky. It's all the things that you might expect. So, yeah, just another reason to lean in and see where this takes us in the broader context of the MCU." Ironheart will kick off with its first three episodes streaming on Disney+ on June 24, 2025, with three more episodes dropping weekly.

I'm Excited to Play Remedy's FBC: Firebreak and Other Games on Xbox Game Pass
