Cape Town City FC could be relegated TODAY
Cape Town City FC face a do-or-die clash for Betway Premiership survival on Wednesday against Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) side Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg.
Those two sides, along with Casric Stars, are currently involved in a round-robin promotion-relegation playoff battle.
Orbit College and Casric Stars, finished second and third respectively, in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.
The first three matches all ended in draws, while, crucially, in the most recent match, Orbit College picked up a 1-0 win over Casric Stars.
That leaves Cape Town City FC on the brink of relegation from South Africa's top-flight.
A defeat to Orbit College on Wednesday would officially spell their demise, leaving Cape Town – and the Western Cape – without a single Betway Premiership team.
A draw would leave Cape Town City FC having to beat Casric Stars in the final playoff match on Monday, 30 June to stand any chance of survival.
Wednesday, 11 June: Casric Stars 0-0 Orbit College
Saturday, 14 June: Cape Town City FC 0-0 Casric Stars
Wednesday, 18 June: Orbit College 1-1 Cape Town City FC
Saturday, 21 June: Orbit College 1-0 Casric Stars
Wednesday, 25 June: Orbit College vs Cape Town City FC – 15:00
Monday, 30 June: Cape Town City FC vs Casric Stars – 15:00
As a reminder, Durban City will replace Royal AM in the Betway Premiership next season, with the winner of the Cape Town City FC-Orbit College-Casric Stars round robin to stay in – or join – the top flight in the 2025/26 season.
The Citizens won seven, drew six and lost 15 of their 28 matches this season.
They scored a league-low 15 goals and conceded 31.

Orlando Pirates legend questions the boss
Orlando Pirates supporters' big question has finally been answered. Abdeslam Ouaddou has replaced Jose Riviero as the head coach. The 46-year-old Moroccan caught the eye while coaching Marumo Gallants late last season. He saved the club's top-flight status in 12 games. Following his shock appointment to coach Orlando Pirates, the club's former midfielder, Benedict Vilakazi, does not agree with the call. Kaizer Chiefs starting 11 with new midfielder from England Benedict Vilakazi during a Betway Premiership match against Ajax Cape Town. Image: Kick Off 'To be honest, I'm not entirely convinced that he's the coach who can elevate Pirates to the next level,' said Vilakazi, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew. New Orlando Pirates lineup with Sipho Mbule 'I'm not questioning his credentials or ability, he's clearly shown promise, and we've seen some of his work during his time at Marumo Gallants. But this is Orlando Pirates, and the pressure here is completely different. This is a club with massive expectations, where every decision is scrutinised, and the demand for results is constant,' he said. The Soweto-born legend concluded that he will support Ouaddou and hope for the best. That said, we have to give him a fair chance, just like other coaches who came before him. We can only judge his impact over time. For now, all we can do is support him. 'Coaching a club of Orlando Pirates' stature is no child's play – it takes more than just tactics. It requires full support from management, the players, and especially the supporters. I truly wish him all the best because he will need all the backing he can get,' Vilakazi concluded. Orbit fly past City to seal Betway Premiership spot
Letsie Koapeng's goal is enough to send the North West side into dreamland. Letsie Koapeng (centre) scored the goal that took Orbit FC to the Betway Premiership. Picture: Ryan Wilkisky/BackpagePix Orbit College will play in the Betway Premiership for the first time next season after sealing victory in the play-offs on Wednesday with a 1-0 win at home to Cape Town City. The result means Orbit have an unassailable six point lead in the play-off standings. North West are back! Orbit's promotion also puts a team from the North West in the Premiership for the first time since Platinum Stars were relegated in 2018. Cape Town City, meanwhile, suffer the ignominy of relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. For a side that had never previously finished outside the top eight since being formed in 2016, this season has been an unmitigated disaster. A dull first half saw Orbit create most of the opportunities without really troubling Cape Town City goalkeeper Darren Keet. A shot from Gomolemo Khoto was superbly blocked by City defender Nathan Fasika, while Koapeng's shot was comfortably stopped by Keet. At the other end, Haashim Domingo's effort was easily gathered by Lesotho and Orbit goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane The game livened up after the break, and City came close in the 46th minute. Jayden Rhodes found Prins Tijueza inside the box, but the Namibian, under pressure from Moerane, couldn't hit the target. His low cross found Koapeng, who drilled a finish past Keet. City brought on young talent Emile Witbooi as they searched for an equaliser. Domingo had another good chance in the 63rd minute but he blazed over the bar from inside the area. And the game was up for City as Mkhize headed over the bar in stoppage time, sparking scenes of wild celebration in Rustenburg.

Does Gayton McKenzie have a plan for 'empty' Cape Town Stadium?
Following Cape Town City FC's sensational relegation from the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, the Mother City – and the Western Cape for that matter – won't have a team in next season's Betway Premiership. That will leave the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, built to host matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, empty for the 2025/26 football season. The Citizens were beaten 1-0 by Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Wednesday which sealed their fate. They will play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) next season. One wonders if Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has a plan up his sleeve. McKenzie was vocal last week regarding the City of Cape Town's plan to turn part of the Athlone Stadium's parking lot into a mixed-use development. McKenzie was adamant that 'We will never allow this, never ever.' It's unclear who McKenzie meant by 'we'. He went on to add that 'we' 'have plans to attract big matches' to Athlone – without mentioning what sport he was referring to. He may now need another plan to 'attract big matches' to the Cape Town Stadium … As a reminder, Cape Town City FC won seven, drew six and lost 15 of their 28 Betway Premiership matches last season to finish 15th in the standings. They scored a league-low 15 goals and conceded 31. Durban City will replace Royal AM in the Betway Premiership next season, with Orbit College also now joining the top flight at the Citizens' expense. Unless Cape Town City FC can buy their way back into the Betway Premiership – stranger things have happened in South African football – they face a daunting task to fight their way back to the top tier.
