Newstalk host Ciara Kelly says she 'regrets' not taking husband's surname after marrying
'I do think that if my husband had had a cooler name, I might have been slightly more tempted.'
Newstalk host Ciara Kelly has said she 'regrets' not taking her husband's surname after they got married.
'I do have some regrets about having no name connection to my children,' she explained on this morning's breakfast show.
'Should they have been double-barrelled? I don't know.
'Or should I have given them Kelly as their second name? I don't know is the answer to that,' she continued.

Kelly said if her husband had a 'cooler name' she 'might have been slightly more tempted.'
'I think there is fashion at play here; when I was young and getting married, none of my pals in college took their husbands' names.
'Most of my pals from school who didn't go to college did.
'So, there was different cohorts of people doing different things, and I think that's still true today,' she said.
'I also do think, as someone who didn't take their husband's name and I now have a different name to all four of my children, that I didn't give it enough thought.
'I didn't want to double barrel my name, I always thought that was for gits - that's what I actually thought.'
Her co-host Shane Coleman said he would have been 'a little bit disappointed' if his wife had taken his surname.
'I married Ev Conroy, I didn't marry Ev Coleman,' he said.
'We get texts from people saying, 'Oh, it's really difficult travelling', it isn't.
'Or that it's 'really confusing in school', I think people are capable of differentiating.
'There's no issue.'

It comes following the publication of an Irish Times opinion piece lamenting whether or not women should change their surname after getting married.
According to Pew Research Centre, 79% of women in opposite sex marriages took their husbands' surname after they wed. While just 5% of men in opposite sex marriages took their wives' surname.

She has joined other well-known Irish figures including Alison Oliver, Aisling Bea, Annie Mac, Caitríona Balfe, Charlie Murphy, Chris O'Dowd and Denise Gough in signing the letter. Others, such as Ruth Negga, Seamus McGarvey, Siobhán McSweeney, and Tadhg Hickey are among the more than 300 signatories. International stars such as Annie Lennox, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brian Cox, Dua Lipa, Gary Lineker, John Lithgow, Mark Ruffalo, Maxine Peake, Rosie O'Donnell, Steve Coogan, and Tilda Swinton are all backing the initiative. Nicola Coughlan News in 90 Seconds - May 30th 'Words won't save the lives of Palestinian children as they are being killed, words won't fill their empty stomachs,' Josie Naughton, co-founder and CEO of Choose Love, said. 'We need action from Keir Starmer now. That means stopping all arms sales and licenses, making sure that legitimate humanitarian organisations can reach people in Gaza. It means doing everything possible to make these horrors end. 'Action is a choice, just as inaction is one. History will remember what we did in this moment. We are begging the Prime Minister to make the right choice.' The open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, published by Choose Love on May 29, reads, in part: 'Dear Prime Minister Keir Starmer. We urge you to take immediate action to end the UK's complicity in the horrors in Gaza. 'Right now, children in Gaza are starving while food and medicine sit just minutes away, blocked at the border. Words won't feed Palestinian children – we need action. 'Every single one of Gaza's 2.1 million people is at risk of starvation, as you read this. Mothers, fathers, babies, grandparents – an entire people left to starve before the world's eyes. 'Over 15,000 children have already been killed – including at least 4,000 under the age of four. Bedrooms where children once slept, kitchens where families shared meals, schools where they learned – all reduced to rubble while Britain stands by. Read more 'You can't call it 'intolerable' and keep sending arms. 'Every moment this continues, is another moment children die on our watch. This complicity is not inevitable – it is a choice. 'The children of Gaza cannot wait another minute. Prime Minister, what will you choose? Complicity in war crimes, or the courage to act?' Nicola has previously spoken out about the conflict, and reflected on the fact her dad was 'in the Irish army, which is a peacekeeping force'. Explaining the reason behind wearing a red badge that relates to a call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, she told USA Today: 'It's very important for me because I feel like I'm a very privileged person. 'I'm doing my dream job and getting to travel the world, but then I'm hyper-aware of what's happening in Rafah at the moment.' She added: 'My dad was in the Irish army, which is a peacekeeping force. He was a member of the UN, so my family actually lived in Jerusalem in the late 70s. 'He was part of UNTSO, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation, so it was about brokering peace in the Middle East. 'I feel very passionately about it. I'm Irish also, so it's sort of a different perspective. And I just feel, if I have this global platform, which I do at the minute, I think if I can hopefully raise funds for aid organisations - I have a fundraiser on my Instagram right now for medical aid for Palestine.'

The TV presenter came sixth in the dance competiton back in 2023. TV Presenter Angela Scanlon has said that participating in Strictly Come Dancing left her in more pain than childbirth. The 41-year-old took part in the BBC series back in 2023 alongside pro-dancer Carlos Gu. 'I've had two children without pain relief and would do that ten times over in a day than have raw, bleeding blisters,' she told Vicki Pattison on their podcast Get A Grip. Angela Scanlon News in 90 Seconds - May 30th 'You have to put the goddamn shoes on and do a Viennese waltz – my heels have never had so much action. 'You put a plaster on and, because you're sweating like a donkey, it falls off. You put socks on with your ballroom shoe, and you're still rub-a-dubbing. 'You're raw,' she added. Scanlon has two daughters, Ruby (7) and Marnie (3) with husband Rory Horgan. The couple married in 2014, and welcomed their first child four years later. Her youngest daughter was born just one year before she signed up to take part in dance competition. Angela placed sixth, with Coronation Street actor Ellie Leach going on to win the glitterball trophy. The Ratoath native began presenting her new podcast Get A Grip with Geordie Shore star Vicki Pattinson, earlier this month. Get A Grip is hosted by Angela Scanlon and Vicky Pattison (Amanda Akokhia/PA) "Female camaraderie in the face of the ridiculous was the catalyst for our new podcast,' Scanlon said of the venture.
