Legendary comedienne, 91, looks frail as she holds hands with a much younger man at a market

Daily Mail21-04-2025

A legendary and ground-breaking comedienne, 91, was seen holding a younger man's hand in Studio City, California over the weekend.
She is one of the first women to host her own comedy-variety show, and is well known for her quips and quotes.
'When you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go,' is one of her famous sayings. 'Comedy = tragedy + time,' is another quip she's known for.
She has multiple awards for her work including the Golden Globe, Emmy, Tony, Grammy and Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Among her movie roles was the film adaptation of Annie and she's currently starring in an AppleTV+ hit show.
Can you guess who it is?
It is Carol Burnett, star of The Carol Burnett Show, Annie and currently, Palm Royale.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas and moved to Los Angeles with her family where she attended Hollywood High School and UCLA.
Carol started her career in 1959 when she had a breakout success in Once Upon a Mattress on Broadway.
She won her first Emmy Award for her appearance on The Garry Moore Show in 1962.
Carol moved back to Los Angeles and started her 11-year run as the star of The Carol Burnett Show on CBS from 1967 to 1978.
Her show included comedy sketches and built on the vaudeville style of comedy.
Burnett created many memorable characters during the show's run, and both she and the show won 25 Emmy Awards.
She went on to appear in a number of film and television series including Annie, Better Call Saul and Palm Royale.
Carol became the oldest Emmy nominee in history when she was nominated for her role in Palm Royale.
At 91, Carol has done almost everything there is to do in showbiz and she recently mused about who would play her in a biopic.
The iconic star envisions a film about her illustrious life starring the one and only Oscar-winning beauty, Angelina Jolie.
During an interview with E! News, Burnett enthusiastically affirmed her choice of the 49-year-old actress, exclaiming, 'I think she's perfect.'
Her Palm Royale costar Kristen Wiig chimed in with a resounding, 'Yes.'
Burnett also revealed that she agreed to her part in the AppleTV+ series Palm Royale without reviewing the script, basing her decision solely on the esteemed cast involved.
Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, and Leslie Bibb join Burnett and Wiig in the period comedy about an 'ambitious woman scheming to secure her seat at America's most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society circa 1969,' per the show's website.
Burnett remarked, 'When they called me about doing it, I didn't even have to read a script. I said, "I'm in,'"because of who I would be working with, and that was it.
'And then I read the script and that was the icing on the cake.'
And last year all she wanted for her 91st birthday was a second season of Palm Royale which she got, though a premiere date hasn't been set yet.
She stated, 'Well, I hope there's a second season, you know, then that'll keep me working, which I like. Yes, as long as I have fun, and that's what I want.
'I always approach it as something new that I've never done before, so I'm just happy to be working and that I've got all my parts. I
'I have my hips and my knees — and I think my brain — so as long as I can keep that up and work, then I want to work.'

This Is Lauren Sanchez's Net Worth – And How She Made Her Money

All eyes are on Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez as they enjoy their lavish nuptials in Venice. Dubbed the 'wedding of the century' for its starry guest list and the vast cost of the festivities, the Amazon founder and his TV journalist fiancée will be joined by their families and friends from the worlds of politics, Hollywood and business – including US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, with actor Leonardo DiCaprio and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg also rumoured to be in attendance – for three days of wedding celebrations. While much is known of Jeff's billionaire status, less is known about Lauren, who has also amassed a fortune of her own and is said to be a millionaire. Here's everything we know about Lauren and her net worth… Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos ©Taylor Hill/FilmMagic Despite being with the world's richest man, Lauren – who's best known for her TV career – has a considerable amount of money in the bank. The former news presenter has an estimated net worth of £30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Lauren is thought to have made her money from her TV career, her aerial production company, book sales and public speaking engagements. She and Jeff also have an impressive property portfolio, including a $165 million estate in Beverly Hills, $78 million Hawaiian retreat and $23 million mansion in Washington, DC. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lauren, 55, has always had big ambitions. After struggling at school due to her dyslexia, she pursued broadcast journalism at the University of Southern California. After graduating, she began her TV career, reporting for a local news station in Phoenix before moving to Los Angeles, where she joined KCOP-TV, now known as Fox 11 Plus. After that, she got a job at Fox Sports Net, presenting Fox Sports New Primetime, where she earned an Emmy nomination. When she returned to KCOP-TV, she worked on shows including Good Day LA, Fox 11 News At Ten and entertainment programme Extra. Lauren became the original host of Fox's dancing competition So You Think You Can Dance in 2005, but that was short-lived. She also founded Pursuit Productions with Dan Friedkin, where they develop films and documentaries. Lauren's dreams of becoming a pilot came true in 2016, when she was 40. After learning to fly a helicopter and getting her pilot's license, Lauren – whose dad worked as a flight instructor and mechanic who helped rebuild planes – founded Black Ops Aviation, the first female-owned aerial film and production company which provided aerial filming services for TV and film projects. Amongst their projects are Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Miss Bala. 'I want to be in a helicopter all the time. Life can be so chaotic with so much going on. Lift off and you're in an energy space that no one else is in. It's calming,' she said of flying. 'When I'm up there, I'm completely satisfied. I'm like, 'This is where I need to be'.' Lauren published children's book The Fly Who Flew To Space, inspired by her own struggles with dyslexia, in 2024, which has helped to boost her fortunes. BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood apologises to co-star live on air in awkward blunder

The weather presenter made a blunder live on air. BBC Breakfast presenter Carol Kirkwood had to quickly issue an apology to her co-star during Wednesday's show. On the programme, BBC viewers tuning in saw the weather presenter detail the latest forecast, warning it will turn increasingly humid in the south throughout the day. ‌ Despite drizzly patches of rain throughout the UK, the 63-year-old star went on to say that overall, it'll be bright and sunny. ‌ As she wrapped up and began to hand back to Sally Nugent and Ben Thompson in the studio, Carol made a blunder, writes The Express. She said: "Jon and Sally, you were saying- Sorry, Ben and Sal." The BBC star seemed to get Ben Thompson's name confused with Jon Kay, who is usually co-hosting alongside Sally during the week. Addressing the mishap, Ben joked: "I answer to anything Carol, don't worry," She replied: "Oh Ben, I am so sorry! You're so lovely as well." Assuring her it was all ok, he added: "Don't be daft! It's just all these short names, that's what it is. It's nice to see you." ‌ Currently, Ben has been filling in for the regular presenter Jon after the seasoned broadcaster enjoyed a break away from the show. Taking to Instagram this week, Jon shared a snap of himself on the beach with the caption: "Long weekend back in the beautiful West Country." It wasn't long before people commented on the snap, with many hoping he enjoyed his time away from the red sofa. ‌ One person said: "You deserved it," while somebody else added: "Looks beautiful." Another follower commented: "Hope you had a wonderful weekend to decompress." One fan said: "That looks lovely. Missed you being with Sally this morning." ‌ It's not yet known when Jon will resume his presenting duties on the programme. This wasn't Carol's first time saying the name live on air as she did the same at the start to the year, she found herself apologising after a name slip-up. Carol mistakenly addressed her co-host Sarah as Sally. ‌ The confusion arose since Sally Nugent usually presents alongside Jon from Monday to Wednesday, but Sarah had stepped in during half term. "It's Thursday that we'll all be in that milder air, Jon and Sal," Carol remarked before catching her error. The BBC presenter was visibly stunned as she quickly corrected herself, exclaiming: "Sarah! Sorry." The on-air gaffe prompted laughter from her fellow presenters, but the broadcast took an unforeseen twist when the camera abruptly switched to another broadcaster at the BBC London Breakfast news desk. ‌ Caught off guard, the presenter glanced into the lens with a look of surprise while Jon and Sarah's voices continued in the backdrop. From off-screen, Sarah's voice was heard saying, "I didn't hear what she said! " and Jon chimed in with a hushed, "Shh, don't tell her, don't tell her." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
