BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood apologises to co-star live on air in awkward blunder

Daily Record4 hours ago

The weather presenter made a blunder live on air.
BBC Breakfast presenter Carol Kirkwood had to quickly issue an apology to her co-star during Wednesday's show.
On the programme, BBC viewers tuning in saw the weather presenter detail the latest forecast, warning it will turn increasingly humid in the south throughout the day.

Despite drizzly patches of rain throughout the UK, the 63-year-old star went on to say that overall, it'll be bright and sunny.

As she wrapped up and began to hand back to Sally Nugent and Ben Thompson in the studio, Carol made a blunder, writes The Express.
She said: "Jon and Sally, you were saying- Sorry, Ben and Sal."
The BBC star seemed to get Ben Thompson's name confused with Jon Kay, who is usually co-hosting alongside Sally during the week.
Addressing the mishap, Ben joked: "I answer to anything Carol, don't worry," She replied: "Oh Ben, I am so sorry! You're so lovely as well."
Assuring her it was all ok, he added: "Don't be daft! It's just all these short names, that's what it is. It's nice to see you."

Currently, Ben has been filling in for the regular presenter Jon after the seasoned broadcaster enjoyed a break away from the show.
Taking to Instagram this week, Jon shared a snap of himself on the beach with the caption: "Long weekend back in the beautiful West Country."
It wasn't long before people commented on the snap, with many hoping he enjoyed his time away from the red sofa.

One person said: "You deserved it," while somebody else added: "Looks beautiful."
Another follower commented: "Hope you had a wonderful weekend to decompress." One fan said: "That looks lovely. Missed you being with Sally this morning."

It's not yet known when Jon will resume his presenting duties on the programme.
This wasn't Carol's first time saying the name live on air as she did the same at the start to the year, she found herself apologising after a name slip-up. Carol mistakenly addressed her co-host Sarah as Sally.

The confusion arose since Sally Nugent usually presents alongside Jon from Monday to Wednesday, but Sarah had stepped in during half term. "It's Thursday that we'll all be in that milder air, Jon and Sal," Carol remarked before catching her error.
The BBC presenter was visibly stunned as she quickly corrected herself, exclaiming: "Sarah! Sorry."
The on-air gaffe prompted laughter from her fellow presenters, but the broadcast took an unforeseen twist when the camera abruptly switched to another broadcaster at the BBC London Breakfast news desk.

Caught off guard, the presenter glanced into the lens with a look of surprise while Jon and Sarah's voices continued in the backdrop.
From off-screen, Sarah's voice was heard saying, "I didn't hear what she said! " and Jon chimed in with a hushed, "Shh, don't tell her, don't tell her."

Luca Brecel pulls out of British Open in bizarre start to his snooker season

Luca Brecel has pulled out of British Open qualifying on the day he was due to play after failing to show up for his Wuhan Open qualifier on Sunday. The 30-year-old gave no warning on Sunday ahead of his scheduled contest with Haris Tahir, with his opponent eventually being handed a 5-0 win. On Wednesday he was due to be in Leicester again for British Open qualifying against Alexander Ursenbacher, but pulled out on the day, allowing amateur player Ashley Carty to take his place in the draw. A brief statement from World Snooker Tour on Wednesday afternoon read: 'Luca Brecel has withdrawn from this week's British Open qualifiers and been replaced in the draw by Ashley Carty. 'Brecel was due to face Alexander Ursenbacher on Wednesday afternoon but has decided to pull out. Carty is the highest available player from the Q School top-up list.' Whether he will be punished by the snooker hierarchy is yet to be confirmed, but he does face the possibility of a fine unless he gives an appropriate reason for his absence. Brecel has not given a reason for not playing in the two events at the Mattioli Arena, he has been busy on social media, seemingly enjoying himself. On Sunday, when he was due to play Tahir, he posted picture on Instagram with his reported new girlfriend Shawney Demuyter and another of pizzas with two glasses of wine. By Tuesday the Bullet was posting pictures wearing a bizarre mask and an eye-catching hat. Wednesday saw the former world champ sporting a wig, shortly before he was due to be playing Ursenbacher. The Belgian Bullet finished last season off impressively as he looked great on a run to the quarter-finals of the World Championship, where he was beaten by Judd Trump in an excellent contest. They were encouraging signs for the man who had won the 2023 World Championship but had a very quiet time after that, skipping a number of tournaments and struggling for results in the ones he played in. He has slipped down to number 39 in the world rankings and failing to play in either the Wuhan Open or British Open puts him at risk of falling further down in the rankings in the weeks to come. His next scheduled matches are on July 17 in the Championship League, but whether he plays in those or not is yet to be seen. More Trending The Saudi Arabia Masters in Jeddah in August would be the next event for the Bullet after that. Asked about his fall outside of the top 16 at the World Championship in April, Brecel said he was actually looking forward to qualifiers. 'There's also a good side, less travelling maybe, less extra tournaments so for me it's maybe better,' he said of no longer being in the top 16. 'I enjoy the qualifiers to be honest, I don't need to be on the TV table, I like being on the outside table as well. For me it's all about playing snooker.' Woman urges people to attach £1 accessory to bags to stop pickpockets easily

When heading out and about, it is important to be vigilant and keep yourself and your belongings safe. One woman has come up with a hack to keep bags protected Exploring bustling city centres or jetting off around the globe can be thrilling, but beware the pitfalls of tourist hotspots. These areas are magnets for petty crime, with purse snatching, pickpocketing, and phone theft all too common, potentially ruining your day out. To dodge these crafty criminals, always zip up your bags in crowded spots. Many modern bags feature inner pockets that offer extra protection for your valuables. But here's a nifty £1 trick to boost your bag's security even further. ‌ A savvy woman has revealed a simple yet effective method to thwart thieves from silently unzipping your bag. All it takes is a basic hair clip. The brains behind Lulu Gigi accessories took to Instagram to demonstrate this anti-theft tactic. ‌ The post declared: "Point of view: you found a way to protect yourself from pickpockets." In a brief video, she displays how to secure a belt bag – a favourite for festival-goers, holidaymakers, and party animals – using a charming blue flower claw clip. For added safety, she threads one of the clip's 'claws' through the zipper's metal loop. This small act could buy you precious time to catch a thief in the act, as they struggle to undo the clip. This clever method could be the difference between safeguarding your belongings and falling victim to theft. And if the comments are anything to go by, the public is loving this ingenious idea. One admirer exclaimed: "So smart", while another hailed the trick as "very clever". Another said this trick is "when aesthetics meets security". In the meantime, other users chimed in with their own suggestions in the comments. One advised: "Better yet, use a metal claw clip because it won't break." ‌ Another shared: "I always do that. Helps a lot. Also put some plushies or those Kpop keyrings that are heavy and you'll notice if someone is trying to open your bag." Yet, not everyone was sold on the idea. A user grumbled about the difficulty of accessing the bag themselves, remarking: "But it's a pain when you want to use it! ?" Another concurred, commenting: "It will only irritate me." Furthermore, some expressed concern that it might provoke thieves to take more extreme actions. One individual pointed out: "People always cut the bags and put their hands inside." Another voiced similar apprehensions, questioning: "Do you know they use blades to cut the purse?". Regardless of whether you opt to try this technique or not, it's crucial to remain alert and keep a watchful eye on your possessions at all times.
