Former member of K-pop group NCT, Taeil, has officially been charged on the counts of aggravated quasi-r***. The idol was found guilty of his crimes after he and his two accomplices admitted to the act themselves.
In recent updates, Taeil's representatives have filed an official appeal to contest the given punishment of three years and six months in prison.
Taeil appeals to the court for 'leniency' in punishment
On July 10, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 26 ruled in favour of the victim and found Taeil, along with his two accomplices, guilty of aggravated quasi-r***. The court charged him for violating the Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes Act.
While the idol has been charged and punished with 3 years and 6 months in jail, the prosecution had previously appealed for a 7-year-long sentence, along with employment restrictions for 10 years for all three individuals. They provided reasoning and cited the severity of the crime. As per BNT News, Taeil's legal representatives filed an appeal against the sentence on July 16, while the prosecution had already filed theirs a day earlier.
The other two individuals who have been charged alongside the singer have also already filed appeals for their cases.
The two will be fighting for the case and charges in the appellate court, with the prosecution requesting that the initial sentence be extended, whereas Taeil's representatives will be appealing for leniency in the matter. Earlier, during the first hearing of the case, they had also stated the matter as well.
The statement read that, 'He voluntarily submitted a statement to the police and despite difficulties, he reached a settlement with the Chinese victim, who also submitted a statement of non-punishment'.
Netizens have also shared their dissatisfaction over the length of the sentence that Taeil has been sentenced to. Many have been calling for stricter action against the former NCT member.

China's famous Shaleader is under investigation on suspicion of embezzling funds

China's famous Shaolin Temple announced on Sunday that its abbot is under investigation on suspicion of misappropriation and embezzlement of project funds and temple assets. Local media reported that the abbot had been hit by scandalous accusations in the past.(AP) Shi Yongxin was alleged to have committed criminal offenses and seriously violated the Buddhist precepts by maintaining relationships with multiple women over a long period and fathering at least one child, according to a notice from the temple's authority on its WeChat account. The notice said multiple departments were conducting a joint investigation against Shi Yongxin, and relevant findings would be announced to the public in due course. The fame of the Shaolin Temple, based in the central Chinese province of Henan, has gone beyond a religious institution. It is also famous for its martial arts culture, or kung fu, which has been referenced in many movies and TV dramas, including the 1982 film "The Shaolin Temple,' starring martial arts superstar Jet Li. The news about Shi Yongxin, whose original name Liu Yingcheng, ranked top on Chinese search engine Baidu and X-like social media platform Weibo on Sunday night. Local media reported that the abbot had been hit by scandalous accusations in the past, including claims that he fathered several children and embezzled money. According to news outlet Caixin Global, provincial investigation reports exonerated him of all charges in 2016. Shi Yongxin entered Shaolin Temple in 1981 and became its abbot in 1999, according to the temple's website. Xinhua in 2015 reported that he was known as a 'CEO monk,' as one of the first Chinese monks to obtain an MBA, and he had sparked controversy for developing commercial operations like lucrative kung fu shows and merchandise. Earlier on Sunday, Chinese local media outlets reported that authorities had dismissed an online notice claiming Shi Yongxin was intercepted by authorities while trying to flee with his mistresses and children as fake.

The temple's official website posted a notice, quoted by China Daily, stating that Shi is suspected of criminal offences including misappropriating project funds and temple assets. He is also accused of seriously violating Buddhist rules by having improper relationships with multiple women over a long period and fathering illegitimate children. Shi is currently being investigated jointly by several authorities. The temple said it will update the public as the investigation progresses. Founded in 495 AD, the Shaolin Temple is located in Henan province, at the foot of Song Mountain. It is famous as the birthplace of Zen Buddhism and Chinese kung fu. Its warrior monks have been known across Asia for centuries. Over the past 50 years, films and TV shows have spread its fame worldwide. The temple attracts students and tourists from all over the world, drawn by its religious significance and its reputation as a centre for martial arts training. Local media noted that Shi has faced similar accusations in the past, including claims of embezzlement and fathering multiple children, though a provincial investigation in 2016 cleared him of those charges. Thailand-Cambodia 'War' Intensifies; Soldiers Unleash Rockets, Machine Guns | Chilling Videos The second day of violence along the Thailand–Cambodia border has turned deadly, chaotic, and deeply tragic. Fresh explosions echoed through the Kap Choeng district in Thailand's Surin Province, where tanks, artillery, jets, and machine guns were unleashed with little restraint. A long-standing border dispute—dormant for more than a decade—has returned with terrifying force. Visuals from the frontlines show Cambodian troops—reportedly armed with Chinese Type 81 machine guns—engaging in brutal firefights with Thai forces. Drone strikes, multiple rocket launchers, and F-16 air sorties are now part of the daily escalation. Two ancient temples, previously symbols of shared culture, have become flashpoints of territorial control. The death toll in Thailand has risen to 14, including 13 civilians and one soldier, and over 100,000 people have fled their homes—making this the bloodiest flare-up since the 2008–2011 war that claimed 28 lives. 29.3K views | 2 days ago
