Two-year deal gives Cristiano Ronaldo a chance to reach 1,000 career goals
Here, the PA news agency looks at the Portugal international and former Real Madrid and Manchester United star's record of 938 goals to date for club and country.
– Ronaldo has the most goals in men's international football with 138. He passed Iran's Ali Daei's previous record of 108 in June 2021.
– His 221 caps are also a record number, going past Bader Al Mutawa's 196 for Kuwait in March 2023.
– Ronaldo, Lionel Messi (112) and Daei are the only men with a century of international goals, while Ronaldo alone has reached 200 caps.
– Minnows Luxembourg are his favourite opponent, with 11 goals.
– Ronaldo is Real Madrid's record goalscorer with 450, almost 100 clear of second-placed Karim Benzema (354).
– He scored those goals in just 438 appearances, giving him a ratio better than a goal per game and an average of exactly 50 in each of his nine seasons. He scored 61 in all competitions in 2014-15 and just one fewer in 2011-12.
– Another 145 goals came across his two spells with Manchester United, 118 in his first after joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and 27 after returning in 2021.
– Ronaldo's most prolific United season came in 2007-08, winning the Premier League Golden Boot with 31 goals and scoring 42 in all competitions.
– He holds the records for most goals and appearances in the UEFA Champions League, 141 goals in 187 games. He, Messi and Robert Lewandowski are the only players with 100-plus goals in the competition.
– Ronaldo is the only player to score in three Champions League finals, and also holds records of 17 goals in a season (2013-14) and scoring in 11 successive appearances.
– He netted five goals in all competitions for his first club Sporting Lisbon and 101 in three seasons with Juventus. His last goal of last season was his 800th in club football and his first of the new campaign will be his 100th for Al Nassr.
– Ronaldo has won a record five UEFA Champions League titles, four with Real after winning his first with United in 2008.
– He has won the Ballon d'Or, awarded to the world's best player, five times – a total exceeded only by Argentina star Messi's eight. Ronaldo was awarded a special award for outstanding career achievement at the 2021 FIFA Best Awards.
– His 26 major honours also include seven domestic league titles, three in England with United and two each in Spain and Italy. With Portugal, he won Euro 2016 as well as two Nations League titles.
– Ronaldo has won the European Golden Shoe on four occasions and was top scorer at Euro 2020. The 40-year-old's 938 career goals have come in 1,281 senior appearances, with Portugal age-group and Olympic games excluded.

Bilbao speak to LaLiga over Barcelona finances amid pursuit of Nico Williams
Barcelona sporting director Deco revealed last week the club are intent on bringing the highly-rated 22-year-old winger to the Nou Camp this summer and have reportedly already agreed personal terms. Still under financial constraints, Barcelona must comply with the '1:1 rule' and are only able to spend as much as their income and accounts allow, governed by LaLiga, which calculates a limit. Bilbao have sought feedback from LaLiga about how Barcelona would finance any transfer of Williams, who helped the Basque club qualify for next season's Champions League and reach the Europa League semi-finals. — Athletic Club (@AthleticClub) June 26, 2025 A statement on Bilbao's website said: 'The meeting (with LaLiga) was held in Madrid in response to a request from Athletic Club made within the framework of compliance with financial fair play. 'Among the topics discussed was FC Barcelona's ability to sign players, given Athletic Club's legitimate interest in accessing the relevant information after FC Barcelona sporting director Deco publicly acknowledged that they will try to sign a player from our first team. 'This player has a contract with Athletic Club until June 30, 2027. Minding our own business means ensuring that the rules of the competition are followed. 'Deco's statements add to the public statements made by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta himself, admitting that the Blaugrana club 'is working to be within the 1:1 rule' and that, therefore, it is not currently within the parameters of said rule for registering players. 'We appreciate LaLiga's complete willingness and clarity in its qualified response, and we affirm that Athletic Club will defend its interests to the fullest extent in compliance with the financial fair play regulations approved by each and every one of the professional clubs that make up LaLiga.'

Luuk de Jong 'open' to Rangers as mega Igamane transfer faces hijack attempt amid Shankland contract pitch
The PSV captain is considering his future after becoming a free agent at the end of last season Veteran striker Luuk de Jong would be "open" to joining Rangers this summer amid surging speculation in the Netherlands. The 34-year-old is out of contract with PSV Eindhoven after captaining the club to a second consecutive Dutch title having netted 18 goals and chipped in with 13 assists across the Eredivise and Champions League last season. De Telegraaf report that boss Peter Bosz is planning to make rising talent Ricardo Pepi his first-choice striker next season sparking "hesitation" over a new deal with Rangers touted as an interested party. It is claimed that the former Dutch international has no intention of retiring and is open to a "final foreign adventure" with PSV ready to move on to other targets. The report emerges with Lille preparing to make their move for Hamza Igamane with Cyriel Dessers also approaching the Ibrox exit with AEK interested. Record Sport understands that the Moroccan is keen on a deal but sources close to the Mastiffs admit a deal is 'nowhere near close' with the Light Blues pushing for £15million deal. Should a deal drag on, Foot Mercato report that both Marseille and Lens are waiting in the wings to hijack a deal - but a deal is an "earlier stage" than a potential switch to Lille. And while Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman is keen on a switch to the Scottish Premiership side, Rangers boss Russell Martin has been told to look closer to home to bolster his attacking options. Hearts' are still waiting for an answer from Lawrence Shankland over their contract offer from the 29-year-old - who is now a free agent and has offers elsewhere. Former Ibrox striker Gordon Dalziel pitched the deal on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said: "If you get Igamane out the building and you get that money for him, and you have a guy like Shankland sitting there on a free and it's wages only - I think that's a no-brainer. "He knows the league inside out, he has shown he can score goals, won Player of the Year two years ago, he is a Scotland international, you are not paying a fee for him - I think that would be a great bit of business for Rangers."
