Bernama CEO Presents Tabung Kasih@HAWANA Contribution To Fauziah Rauf's Family
KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, today presented a Tabung Kasih@HAWANA contribution to the family of veteran journalist, the late Fauziah Rauf, at Masjid Selayang Baru.
Representing Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Nur-ul Afida handed the contribution to Fauziah's eldest daughter, Nilly Wahida Omar Sudi, 54.
Fauziah passed away at Selayang Hospital at about 1 am today due to a brain hemorrhage.
The RM2,000 assistance marks the second given to the late journalist, following an initial one in 2023.
Nur-ul Afida noted that the first donation was provided under Bernama's allocation before Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved a RM1 million fund in conjunction with HAWANA 2023.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA was established during the 2023 National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) celebrations as an initiative to support ailing or financially constrained members of the media.
The fund is a Communications Ministry initiative administered by Bernama as part of ongoing efforts to assist and honour media professionals, both active and retired.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he conveyed this message during a ministerial roundtable themed 'Safe Schools' at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva yesterday. 'This policy focuses on comprehensive risk reduction across all sectors, including the safety and continuity of education,' he said in a statement yesterday, reported Bernama. According to Ahmad Zahid, one of the key initiatives highlighted was the development of the Disaster Risk Reduction Education Module by the Education Ministry, Unicef Malaysia and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), which will benefit nearly 7,800 primary schools nationwide. He said the module emphasises experiential learning, hands-on training and active student engagement, in line with the Asean Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response framework. To ensure comprehensive implementation, Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia is also exploring strategic collaborations with non-governmental organisations, private companies and government-linked companies. 'At the same time, Nadma's community-based disaster risk management programme successfully engaged nearly 44,000 Malaysians, including over 12,000 youths, over the past year,' he added. He also shared Malaysia's initiative to build permanent relief centres in high-risk school areas, with a federal government allocation of RM135mil. These centres will function as shelters during disasters and serve as community learning hubs during normal times. 'Malaysia has also expressed its readiness to share expertise and foster cross-border collaboration in strengthening global school safety. 'We believe that investing in resilience today is the best protection for our children's future,' he said. The Deputy Prime Minister led the Malaysian delegation to the eighth session of the meet in Geneva.

Not the first time: Has Anthony Loke been negligent over Taiwanese's fatal fall onto LRT track?
A LAWYER has demanded Anthony Loke Siew Fook to apologise and resign as Transport Minister after an elderly Taiwanese man died after he was run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station recently. Charles Hector who is also a human rights activist further contended that not only had the Seremban MP failed to ensure adequate safety measures were put in place, the incident which occurred at 5.54pm on Tuesday (June 3) was not the first as another person also died in February this year after having fallen onto the LRT tracks. 'This is not the first case so the Minister knew but did nothing or had procrastinated until yet another died,' Hector hit out on his latest blog. 'To protect people from walking and falling onto tracks, and possibly killed by oncoming trains requires safety measures like platform doors that prevent people from walking close to tracks and falling or jumping on tracks. 'Such is a standard safety measure in many countries that should have long been in place in all LRT and also train stations.' Earlier reports stated that CCTV footage showed 63-year-old Chang Pao-Shih who entered Malaysia on May 31 was walking alone before falling onto the tracks and being hit by the LRT train. Yesterday (June 6), the police had confirmed that there was no criminal element involved in the fatal incident with Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stating that the incident was the result of the victim's own actions and the case remains classified as sudden death (SDR). 'Investigations found no indication of foul play or negligence. We've evidence indicating that the victim fell due to his own actions,' Bernama cited him as telling reporters. Elaborating on an earlier February 2025 incident, Hector recounted that a visually impaired man died after falling onto the tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station and was struck by a train. 'Similarly, in 2018, a man died at the same Puchong station where the latest incident occurred when he descended onto the tracks and was hit by an oncoming train,' lamented Hector who is the co-founder of NGO Malaysians Against Death Penalty & Torture (MADPET). 'At risk, have been persons of disability with the Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM) having highlighted in February 2025 that to-date, there have been at least 20 accidents involving visually impaired individuals falling onto rail tracks at Monorail, LRT or KTM stations.' Considering that the DAP secretary-general has assumed office as the Transport Minister in November 2022, Hector is adamant that Loke is fully aware of the problem, hence 'it's his fault' for failing to implement safety measures – whether permanent or temporary – to prevent such incidents. 'Maybe a placement of chains/ropes to prevent anyone falling off the tracks where it is removed when the train arrives to facilitate entry/exit without incident,' suggested the lawyer who has a practice in Temerloh, Pahang. RM250,000 concrete drain completed at Lrg Semaba 7 to tackle flooding issues

KUCHING (June 7): The construction of a concrete drain at the T-junction of Lorong Semaba 7 has been completed at the cost of RM250,000, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap. He said the rural transformation programme (RTP) project had resolved long-standing drainage and flooding issues in the area. 'With the completion of this phase, residents in the neighbourhood can now look forward to improved water flow, reduced flood risk and better overall living conditions,' he said in a statement. He emphasised that the initiative is more than just a basic infrastructure upgrade. 'It is a commitment to ensure that every part of Kota Sentosa is not left behind in terms of infrastructure. Too many of our older residential areas still suffer from outdated or insufficient basic amenities. 'I am working tirelessly to correct that,' he added. Yap also revealed that the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has conducted survey and assessment works on the opposite side of the same T-junction, as well as another stretch of earth drains along Lorong Semaba 11. The proposed next phase will involve the construction of additional concrete drains, with a combined estimated cost of RM400,000, and MPP engineers are currently preparing the Bill of Quantities to move the project forward. Reaffirming his commitment to infrastructure development, Yap said he will continue to advocate for improvements under the RTP and other government allocations. 'Development cannot be concentrated in one area. As your elected representative, I will continue to press for improvements – street by street, lorong (lane) by lorong – so that all residents of Kota Sentosa enjoy the benefits of proper, modern infrastructure.' Yap also highlighted that his efforts are aligned with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government's focus on inclusive development and narrowing the infrastructure gap, particularly in semi-urban and suburban communities. He emphasised that infrastructure is not just about roads and drains. 'It's about dignity, safety and improving the quality of life for the people I serve.
