Five nabbed, drugs worth RM16 mln seized in Klang Valley raids
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled three drug trafficking operations in the Klang Valley with the arrest of five men in separate raids between April 29 and May 6 and the seizure of drugs worth RM16.01 million.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said in the first raid at 5.50 pm on April 29, police arrested a local man and a Filipino man, aged 41 and 31 respectively, who were in a Honda City on Jalan Mamanda 1, Ampang.
He said police found 56 plastic packages containing 58.42 kilogrammes of syabu (methamphetamine) in the vehicle. Interrogation of the suspects led to the inspection of another vehicle, a Honda Civic, in Taman Melati.
'As a result, police seized another 141 packets of syabu weighing 146.76 kg. Initial investigations indicate the two suspects had sourced the drugs from Kelantan and were using the car as a storage facility,' he said at a press conference here today.
In the second raid at 3.30 pm last Monday, police detained a 45-year-old man who then led them to a shop lot in a shopping mall on Jalan Imbi, where they seized 221 kg of syabu estimated to be worth RM7.07 million.
'Urine tests revealed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and had five prior criminal and drug-related records,' he said.
In the third raid at 5.10 pm last Tuesday, police arrested a 33-year-old man at a condominium in Taman Mastiara and seized 4.1 kg of ketamine and 1.1 kg of ecstasy pills in a fabric bag he was carrying.
Interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of another man, aged 23, at the same location, along with the seizure of 288 grammes of ecstasy powder.
'The suspect then led police into one of the condominium rooms, where various drugs were found, including 9 kg of ecstasy powder, 4.19 kg of ketamine, 3.28 kg of ecstasy pills and 1.25 kg of Erimin 5, with a total estimated value of RM2.38 million,' he said.
The suspects have been remanded until tomorrow and May 12, and the cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Rusdi said the drugs seized in the three operations could have been supplied to 3.2 million addicts.

MANILA: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirmed on Friday (June 5) the arrest and detention of a yakuza boss who has been operating a transnational crime ring out of the Philippines since 2022. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado described as a 'significant victory' the arrest of Japanese national Ryuji Yoshioka, 54, the leader of the so-called JP Dragon crime ring. BI records showed that Yoshioka has not left the Philippines since 2022 when he arrived after a warrant for his arrest was issued by a court in Fukuoka, Japan. He arrived two years after one of his top aides, Tomohiro Koyama, who was subsequently deported last November along with two other JP Dragon members who were suspected of making calls from the Philippines to defraud people in Japan. The JP Dragon gang is believed to be behind large-scale theft and telecom fraud schemes with operational bases in South-East Asia. Viado said BI's Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested Yoshioka in Angeles City, Pampanga, on June 4 with the help of the Philippine Navy and the Northern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. 'This individual is a key player in an international crime group. His arrest sends a clear message that the Philippines is not a safe refuge for fugitives,' Viado emphasised. 'Yoshioka's arrest is a testament to our commitment to uphold justice and protect the Philippines from becoming a haven for international fugitives,' Viado said. Viado commended the FSU, led by its chief Rendel Ryan Sy, for the successful operation that followed continuing surveillance that has resulted in the arrest of at lest 10 JP Dragon gangsters. Yoshioka's aide Koyama was actually arrested in January 2024, but fraud charges were filed against him by his Filipino girlfriend apparently so he could dodge summary deportation. Viado did not specify the charges against Yoshioka, apparently to avoid a delay in his deportation because of charges pending in Philippine courts. Last November, Koyama was deported with fellow JP Dragon members Hiroki Nagaura, 26, and Eisei Miura, 41. According to the English-language Japan Times, Koyama and his two companions were linked to the so-called Luffy group, a separate yakuza ring believed to be behind a series of burglaries in Japan. According to the Nippon Hoso Kyoka television network, the Luffy group is led by Kiyoto Imamura, 41, who is also believed to be in the Philippines. Last month, lawmen arrested seven JP Dragon gangsters in simultaneous operations in Metro Manila and Bulacan. The BI did not identify all the seven arrested gangsters, except for Hikari Ishikawa, 45, and Masato Morihiro, 37. Driver high on meth crashes into oncoming car
KLUANG: A 40-year-old chauffeur with a record of drug offences was arrested after crashing into an oncoming vehicle while under the influence of methamphetamine in Jalan Jaya here on Friday evening. The man is believed to have veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Proton Saga driven by a 36-year-old trader. Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the crash happened at 5pm as the suspect, driving a Honda City, was heading to Bandar Kluang from Taman Sri Kluang. "Upon reaching the scene, he swerved into the opposing lane and crashed into the Saga. Both cars suffered major front-end damage," he said in a statement today. The trader, from Taman Sri Kluang, sustained cuts to his hand and body aches, while the suspect escaped unhurt. The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine in a urine test. Background checks showed he had three previous drug-related cases and a criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.

Police nab two more suspects in Dataran Merdeka brawl
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two more men to assist in investigations into a recent brawl at Dataran Merdeka. City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the suspects, aged 21 and 22, were arrested separately by the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department Anti-Vice, Secret Societies and Gambling (D7) Unit. With these latest arrests, a total of seven people have now been detained to assist in the investigation. "The first suspect was arrested at 1.40am in front of a building on Jalan Tun Perak, Kuala Lumpur. "The second arrest took place at 3.15am at an apartment in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor," he said in a statement. Rusdi said initial investigations revealed that both suspects were present at the scene during the incident, and one of them had admitted to assaulting the victim. Both suspects have been remanded to facilitate further investigations. On June 3, five men were remanded for two days in connection with a viral video of a fight in Dataran Merdeka. Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the suspects, aged between 17 and 23, were detained following an investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
