I pray India refuse to play against us: Ex-Pakistan batter afraid of another humiliation

India Today3 days ago
Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has expressed concerns ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup 2025, fearing another humiliating loss for his country. India and Pakistan are set to clash on September 14 in the Asia Cup in Dubai and are likely to face off again on September 21 in super 4 stages. However, ahead of the fixture there's panic amongst Pakistan fans and pundits, who're dreading another crushing defeat against their arch-rivals. Pakistan recently lost an ODI series against West Indies by 2-1 after over 33 years, which has added to their woes ahead of the Asia Cup. Hence, Basit Ali isn't too optimistic about Pakistan's chances against India.advertisement'I pray India refuse to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can't even imagine),' Basit said on The Game Plan YouTube channel.
India have a dominating record against Pakistan in T20Is having won ten out of 13 matches played between the two teams. In the last encounter between the two teams during the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan failed to chase down the target of 120 and lost by six runs.Of late Pakistan have suffered several humiliating losses against lesser-ranked teams such as USA, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. Hence, with their performances going on a downward slope, Pakistan are likely to face a similar fate in the Asia Cup.Meanwhile, India are the defending champions of Asia Cup, having won the previous edition in 2023 after beating Sri Lanka in a one-sided, low-scoring final. The BCCI has the hosting rights for the tournament. Sources had told this publication in May that India won't participate in or host the Asia Cup in the aftermath of the terrorist attack that killed tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. However, the BCCI's stance changed, and the tournament has been moved to a neutral venue. Had India pulled out of the Asia Cup, the tournament's future would have been in doubt. A large chunk of the tournament's financial backing comes from Indian sponsors and broadcasters.- EndsMust Watch

Bumrah's confirmation of his availability for the tournament has given captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir a huge boost. Bumrah has expressed his desire to participate in the Asia Cup According to the Indian Express, Bumrah has already expressed his desire to participate in the tournament to the selectors. He is therefore almost certain to be included in the squad. 'Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for the Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,' the Indian Express quoted a source as saying. India's Asia Cup campaign will begin on September 10 against the UAE. The highly anticipated match against Pakistan will take place in Dubai on September 14. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong are in Group B, while India, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Oman are in Group A. Bumrah faces criticism for not playing all five Tests Jasprit Bumrah has been at the center of the action ever since the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy match against England ended. A number of former Indian cricket players have criticized the pacer for not playing all five Test matches. As part of workload management, it was already decided that Jasprit Bumrah would play in just three games before the five-match series started. But following India's victory at the Oval without him, the 31-year-old faced criticism. Some questioned Bumrah's few appearances, comparing him to Mohammed Siraj, who participated in all five games. Bumrah was released from the Test squad ahead of Day 2 of the fifth and final match at the Oval. The pacer had featured in the first Test at Headingley, the third at Lord's, and the fourth at Manchester. Bumrah grabbed two five-wicket hauls Bumrah picked a total of 14 wickets, which included two five-wicket hauls, while bowling 119.4 overs. In the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah played in all five Test matches against Australia. But during the last Test match in Sydney, he experienced a back spasm. He was consequently ruled out of the 2025 ICC Men's Champions Trophy, which India ultimately won. Bumrah also missed the first few games of the Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 campaign. 'If he cannot play more than two matches in a row or sometimes even more than one, he must not be your frontline pick. Players who are match fit, eager, keen to play and perform should be picked any day for me over a highly skilled player. It will motivate such enthusiastic players even more,' Manjrekar wrote.

Will Jasprit Bumrah Play Asia Cup 2025? Report Provides Massive Update On Pacer's Availability

In a massive boost for the Indian cricket team, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed his availability for the upcoming Asia Cup, claimed a report. The continental event is set to be played from September 9 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates. Bumrah's workload management has been the subject of discussion these days. The player skipped two of the five Test matches in the recently-concluded series in England to keep himself away from injury. Notably, Bumrah played all the five Tests during the India-Australia Test series 2024/25 and ended up being injured and miss three months of action subsequently. As per the latest report, the player will be in action for India in Asia Cup 2025. "Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week," wrote The Indian Express quoting a source. Bumrah had a impressive show in England, picking up 14 wickets in the three matches he played. His best bowling figures in the series were 5 for 74. While he has excelled in every format, India will be needing the right-arm pacer badly in the Asia Cup which will have T20 matches. Bumrah's ability to stay economical while picking up crucial wickets is what makes him special in the shortest format of the game. Ahead of the Ajit Agarkar -led selection panel's meeting to pick India's Asia Cup squad, T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has also been cleared to play the tournament, as per a PTI report. He has passed his fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the agency said. The swashbuckling batter, who last featured in the IPL and was adjudged Player-of-the-Series, had undergone surgery for a sports hernia in the lower-right abdomen in Munich, Germany, in June. "Fitness tests are mandatory before Return to Play (RTP) post-surgery. Surya has cleared the fitness test," a BCCI source told PTI. The 34-year-old enjoyed a stellar IPL season, scoring 717 runs and was only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to score over 600 runs for Mumbai Indians in a season. In the Asia Cup, India are scheduled to open their campaign against hosts UAE on September 10, while the marquee fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan is slated on September 14, both in Dubai.
