Man inspired by friend's lottery win buys tickets. He ‘couldn't believe' prize
When a Maryland man's friend won a couple thousand dollars on a lottery ticket, he took note.
'Growing up in Baltimore, I remember everyone playing the Lottery, it was just a part of the culture,' the man told Maryland Lottery officials in a June 3 news release.
With his friend's lottery win at the forefront of his mind, the man said he wanted to 'give it a try and see what happens.'
He bought a handful of lottery tickets at a Baltimore convenience store 'after finishing a long work shift,' lottery officials said.
As he scratched his tickets at the store, he found two winners: One ticket scored him a $5 prize, while the other's prize 'stunned him,' lottery officials said.
'His decision paid off in a big way' as the player won $100,000 on a $10 Ice ticket, lottery officials said.
'I couldn't believe it,' the winner told lottery officials. 'I rushed home right away to tell my wife and mother.'
The man told lottery officials he and his wife plan to spend his winnings 'paying bills and setting up a college fund for their son.'

Lottery club ‘flipped out' when they hit the jackpot in Michigan. ‘Total shock'
Two friends spending time together in Northern Michigan bought a lottery ticket and hit the jackpot. 'My friend, the other club member, lives in Northern Michigan, and we just recently started playing the Lottery together whenever I am up north at my cabin,' the spokesperson for the club told lottery officials. They bought a ticket at Talley's Log Cabin Bar in Lewiston, but they didn't know how much they had won. They scanned the ticket and were told to go to the lottery office, officials said. When they scanned their Fast Cash ticket again on the app, they 'flipped out' when they saw the prize. The pair from a Wayne County lottery club had just hit the jackpot and won $793,304, Michigan lottery officials said in a June 4 news release. 'It was a total shock and took a while to wrap our heads around it,' one of the winners told officials. Now, the two winners plan to use the money to live without debt, officials said. 'I don't think it's going to fully sink in until we cash our checks,' the player told officials. Lewiston is about a 225-mile drive northwest from Detroit.

Lucky lottery players ‘break the bank' with combination in Virginia draw game
Lottery players won millions in a Virginia draw game with a quadruple number combination, lottery officials said. The Pick 4 players 'had a bonanza' in the June 3 night drawing when the combination 4-4-4-4 was drawn, the Virginia Lottery said in a June 4 news release. The players won a total of $7.9 million after wagering $438,939, according to the lottery, which said it paid out 18 times more than it took in for the drawing. 'Pick 4 players break the bank,' the lottery said when announcing the results. 'Quadruple numbers tend to be very popular in the Pick 4 game and are some of the most heavily wagered,' lottery officials said. The odds of winning are 1 in 10,000, the lottery said. If a player wages $1 and matches all four numbers, they win $5,000, according to lottery officials. Drawings are held twice daily, according to the game's web page. The top prize as of June 4 is $5,000, lottery officials said.
