Honest Jules van Dongen says darts will go in the case after New York games
Stuggling Jules van Dongen could quit the game after his emotional clash with Luke Littler in New York.
The Dutch-American star has already announced his is taking a temporary break after the US Darts Masters for a reset amidst struggles in the sport.

Van Dongen has had plenty to deal with in recent times on-and-off the stages and has also hinted at retirement with the dreaded dartitis forcing him to learn to play with his opposite hand to try and prolong his career. The 34-year-old has also had to deal with both of his parents suffering illness and intends to take a step away from the sport after Madison Square Gardens.

Van Dongen, who has been drawn to face Littler in the first round of the tournament in the Big Apple and is also set to feature in Saturday afternoon's North American Darts Championship with an opening tie against Stowe Buntz, said: "Once this run is over, the darts are going back in the case. It's time for a full reset.
'One day I say I'm not playing, the next I'm back in again. But for now, I'll be up there on the stage. Expectations are lower now and that actually helps. At the UK Open, not everyone realised how badly things were going. By now, it's pretty clear.'
Van Dongen's mum and dad are finally scheduled to be in New York to see him on the MSG stage and facing The Nuke as he explained to sportnieuws.nl: 'They've been trying to come for three years. Covid stopped them the first time, then my dad tested positive, and last year my mum was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, she's now fully recovered. That alone makes this event unmissable for me.'
Van Dongen's kids will also be in the crowds watching and he'd love to finish in style as he said: 'I just want to give it one last proper go. No pressure, no expectations, just me, my family and the stage at The Garden.'
Littler is aware of the situation having made reference to the fact van Dongen is not having an easy time of it during his pre-tournament media briefing. The World Champion said: 'He's going through quite a lot at the minute.'
The teenage sensation has his own reasons for wanting success as he aims to bounce back from the disappointment of the World Cup flop with Luke Humphries. Littler said: 'I'm feeling very, very confident. I've just had a family holiday in Spain, but now I'm here, I'll obviously practise before I play, but just trying to get another win here at the MSG. I think the first game in any tournament, it's always the biggest because you've got that winning feeling on stage and you know how to win. I just look forward to that.'
'Obviously me and Luke didn't play the best of darts [at World Cup], but now I'm on my own let's have some fun. There's plenty of darts left to be thrown in the second half of the year, which I'm looking forward to.
'The amount of majors that are involved at the minute, the amount of European tours that are left, but this would be really good to kickstart the second half of the season.'

Charlotte Edwards has England ‘focused on winning' again

England bowler Lauren Bell feels new head coach Charlotte Edwards has helped the players rediscover their winning mentality as they look to move forward into the summer series against India. Former England captain Edwards replaced Jon Lewis as head coach after the winter's humiliating 16-0 whitewash in the Women's Ashes in Australia. It has been a positive start as new captain Nat Sciver-Brunt guided her side to a clean sweep of their six-match white-ball series against the West Indies. England play the first of five T20s against India at Trent Bridge on Saturday, which will be followed by three ODIs in July. With a 50-over World Cup on the horizon in India later in the year, Bell believes Edwards, her former coach at Hampshire, can keep pushing England in the right direction. 'She is exactly how I expected her to be coming in and leading this team. She has really brought some great fundamentals to the team,' Bell said. 'I guess Charlotte just brings a sense of the winning mentality. 'The way Jon Lewis went about his things, I really enjoyed and it was a really good way to go about it, but Charlotte is just different. 'She has more of a focus on winning and how you are going to beat the opposition, which obviously is something maybe we lacked in previous series and under the pressure, I guess. 'So she has brought that and a real hard-working mentality.' Bell added: 'In any situation, when you have new personnel in charge, it is going to be different. Whether their ideas are wildly different (or not), it is going to feel like a different group. 'They obviously bring a new energy, new ideas. It is kind of like a blank slate and we are moving forward now. 'She is very focused on winning, focused on how we are going to beat the opposition by getting the best out of us, so it is different but it is great and really exciting.' Sciver-Brunt hit another half-century in Taunton to help secure England's 3-0 ODI series win over the West Indies. Bell feels the 32-year-old all-rounder, who replaced Heather Knight in April after her nine years as skipper, has been 'amazing' in her new role. 'She has been really relaxed, really calm and wants everyone to have her say on how they go about their games and what they want to do, which is great,' Bell said. 'She always leads from the front. She is amazing at all three aspects of the game and everything she does – the way she trains, the type of professional she is. 'It has been a really good start and I think she is really enjoying it.' England v India. Ready to bring the action to the big screen 🔥 Watch the full trailer now 👇 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 26, 2025 The series is India's first tour in England since the controversial run-out at the non-striker's end – more informally known as the 'Mankad' – by Deepti Sharma on Charlie Dean in 2022. While plenty of water has flowed under the bridge since, Bell knows England – with Sophie Ecclestone returning to international duty – will still need to be on top of their own game. 'They are obviously a really strong team, but hopefully we are really confident and in a good place,' she said. 'So if we can play our best cricket, then I think it will be really good series.'

Christian Eriksen lands Rangers pitch as De Jong 'decision' and Ramsdale rule escalate 49ers 'surprise' transfer tease

Paraag Marathe's EGM promise appears to be gathering pace with some big names swirling at Ibrox Christian Eriksen has been told why he should sign for Rangers this summer after the new US owners at Ibrox promised some surprises in the transfer market. The former Manchester United playmaker is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Old Trafford as a free agent - with a move to join the American revolution at Ibrox floated. ‌ Speaking at Rangers EGM, Paraag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises - who now own the Glasgow giants alongside pharmaceutical tycoon Andrew Cavenagh - promised shareholders that there would be a few names emerging that would raise the eyebrows of fans. ‌ He said: "If we share who we're targeting that players becomes more expensive. It's best for you all if we surprise you with the players we bring in!" And the 33-year-old would fall into that category. Speaking to OLBG, former England international Chris Waddle recommended Govan as the Danish international's next destination. He said: "Christian Eriksen would be a great acquisition for Rangers. I think he would be a revelation. He would be brilliant in Scotland. I think he'd be able handle that league with ease. "Whether his wage demands would be too high, we don't know, but a lot of teams in Spain and Italy, Germany would like to take Eriksen on. "Not on long-term deals, but I think he'll have a lot of options around Europe and I'm sure there will be Premier League teams looking at him, but if someone like Rangers got him, he would be a massive coup. "He's still got a lot to offer, but I do think that if he goes to one of the top Premier League teams, I think he'll be sat on the bench more than on the pitch." ‌ Reports in the Netherlands suggest that veteran Luuk de Jong would be "open" to joining Rangers this summer. Dutch outlet ED report that is ready to "answer" PSV Eindhoven's contract offer imminently with the club making it clear they "won't wait forever" for their title-winning skipper. ‌ De Telegraaf claim the 34-year-old free agent is "exploring an exotic option" with an unnamed club away from the Eredivise. Aaron Ramsdale has been floated as a high-profile loan recruit - but Ray Parlour has told the Southampton goalkeeper the transfer rules he should put in place. Discussing a reunion with Russell Martin in Glasgow, he told talkSPORT: 'I think he's got to stay in the Premier League, so I'll say no. 'I think he's got too much to offer. I think he stays in the Premier League.' Claudia MacDonald thankful to be back with Red Roses

It was in February 2024 that the Exeter Chiefs winger suffered a neck injury that left her unable to move her arms and legs. That was the second serious neck injury of her career and left her contemplating her rugby future but fast-forward 12 months and she was back on the pitch and part of the England squad that claimed the Grand Slam. Not only that, despite huge competition in the back three, MacDonald performed well enough to earn a starting role in the Grand Slam decider at Allianz Stadium against France. It is a comeback that has involved a huge amount of work, both physically, but also psychologically. She explained: 'Any injury derails you, I've had a few of those in the past that have certainly made me question what would be possible from a rugby point of view in the future. You then live the process of coming back and it all becomes a lot more natural. 'The next thing you would want is to be here in pre-season and pushing yourself. Sometimes it's really important to take a step back and give yourself some perspective and look at the journey as a whole. 'Just being here and making it back to an England environment, being involved in that Six Nations that we just played, that was huge. I certainly didn't think that was going to be the case a year ago. 'I worked quite a bit with the psychologist who spoke to me a lot about the fact we talk about 'return to play'. 'The injury might be 12 weeks and at the end of the 12 weeks, you expect to play a game. She gave me another one which was 'return to performance'. 'In my head, I think before that conversation, it was that you get out on the pitch at the end of the injury whereas obviously especially with the injury I had and it's the case with a lot of longer-term injuries, getting out on the pitch is the big first tick but there are so many more ticks after that. 'So I tried to stay focused on small targets along the way. I wanted to get out there, then I wanted to make a tackle, run with the ball. I gave myself another period of time until I had this return to performance and pride in how I was playing. That was really big for me because it meant I was able to give myself some leniency.' After impressing for England as they continued a winning streak that dates all the way back to the last World Cup final, MacDonald is back training with the Red Roses as they gear up to host the tournament. They enter as favourites after a dominant stretch, although the Grand Slam decider against France ended up being a one-point game – only the second time that a team has finished within a score against England since 2022 – Les Bleues also did so two years ago. Three years ago, MacDonald travelled to the World Cup with an England team that was also favoured to win the tournament, eventually losing 34-31 to hosts New Zealand in the final. During that campaign, she was initially selected as a scrum-half, before shifting to wing by the time the action started. In fact, her only appearance at scrum-half came in the final after Leanne Infante was a late withdrawal, with MacDonald acting as cover for starter Lucy Packer. She said: 'The last World Cup, I trained as a scrum-half and thought I was going out to the World Cup as a scrum-half. But in training, we had four nines consistently and only had three wingers so one of us was always training on the wing. 'I probably enjoyed it far more than the other scrum-halves enjoyed it. I was a winger before I was a scrum-half, I've flip-flopped between the two. It was a big part of what I did, the ability to play both. When I had opportunities to train on the wing, I threw myself at it. 'Since that World Cup, I've been solidly a winger, I'm guessing if something happened and we needed someone at scrum-half, I'd like to hope they would put me in.' Fit again, and with that versatility to her name, MacDonald is ready to play a starring role for the Red Roses this summer. Purchase your tickets to the Autumn Nations Series at Allianz Stadium
