MWO-Dubai kicks off vaccination program for parents and children
In celebration of International Children's Day and as part of its unwavering commitment to the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Dubai, in partnership with OWWA and Grand Infinity Medical Center, successfully launched a targeted vaccination drive on 01 June 2025 at MWO Dubai.
The program was specially designed for parents and children whose UAE documentary status is still under process, and are currently receiving assistance from MWO Dubai's Assistance to Nationals Section.
While waiting for their documentary requirements for repatriation, the event responded to the pressing health needs of these children, who are often unable to access basic medical services in both public and private healthcare institutions due to a lack of official documentation and financial resources. The vaccination drive provided them with crucial immunizations and healthcare support.
A total of 22 parents received medical check-ups, and 29 children were vaccinated as part of the initiative. The children were brought to Grand Infinity's clinic in Muhaisnah 4, Dubai, where they received professional care in a safe and supportive environment.
The beneficiaries also received financial assistance under the AKSYON Fund, along with gift items from MWO Dubai, OWWA, and Grand Infinity Medical Center, and food packs distributed throughout the event. In addition, parents participated in a basic childcare orientation, equipping them with vital knowledge for ensuring the well-being of their children.
The event was honored by the presence of high-ranking officials, including Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, Consul General Marford Angeles, Undersecretaries Felicitas Q. Bay and Jainal T. Rasul, Vice-Consul Aleah Marie B. Gica, and Director Julyn Ambito Fermin.
In his remarks, Secretary Cacdac emphasized the administration's continuing pledge under President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. to ensure that all OFWs and their families are afforded access to proper documentation and medical care—regardless of status.
This initiative builds on the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between MWO Dubai and Grand Infinity Medical Center on 14 February 2025, which aims to expand access to healthcare services for OFWs and their families in the UAE.

PhilHealth town hall meeting empowers OFWs with essential healthcare updates
A town hall meeting on PhilHealth services and updates took place on May 30, 2025, at the Sentro Rizal, Philippine Embassy, Manama, offering essential information to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and members of the Filipino community. The event highlighted the government's dedication to supporting its citizens abroad by keeping them informed about their healthcare benefits. It was attended by Her Excellency Anne Jalando-on Louis, Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, along with embassy officials, including Administrative Officer, Mr. Virgilio Pasive Jr., and Ms. Cellia V. Cabadonga, Officer-in-Charge of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO). This appeal helped to highlight the ripple effect of awareness, hoping that by sharing the information, more people would be enabled to access PhilHealth effectively and appeal for their health care needs. Realizing the temporary nature of overseas employment, Ambassador Louis advised OFWs to regularly keep themselves enrolled in OWWA, PhilHealth, SSS, and Pag-IBIG. Foreign employment may have the advantage of being able to earn immediately, but it is also essential to spend on saving for the future. Active participation in these top-priority Philippine institutions provides OFWs with access to vital benefits. The visiting delegation from the Philippines was led by Mr. Gregorio C. Rulloda, PhilHealth Vice President for Mindanao. He provided the attendees with a comprehensive overview of the full spectrum of health insurance benefits available to members and their beneficiaries, with a strong emphasis on the reforms introduced under the historic Universal Health Care (UHC) Law (Republic Act No. 11223). The session clearly demonstrated how UHC provides Filipinos with access to basic health care services without the burden of cost. The Philhealth team includes Anshari M. UAE: Soon, overseas Filipino workers to get free annual checkups
Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including those based in the UAE, will soon receive free annual medical check-ups through the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers' (DMW) Aksyon Fund, it was announced on Friday. DMW minister Hans Leo Cacdac made the announcement during a Senate inquiry probing 'irregularities in pre-employment medical examinations and alleged abusive practices by some clinics (in the Philippines),' according to a report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA). Cacdac told senator Raffy Tulfo the free medical check-up will be covered by Aksyon (Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan) fund, a key financial support mechanism for OFWs needing urgent assistance abroad. Cacdac assured the routine health monitoring for OFWs during their deployment and prior to repatriation will also be covered. Tulfo, meanwhile, urged the DMW to institutionalise the initiative through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) 'to ensure greater oversight and regulation of medical clinics conducting OFW health clearances.' 'Medical clinics should have prior coordination with and obtain approval from the DOH,' Tulfo added. OFWs are estimated to be around 15 million across the world. They have a significant presence in the UAE, believed to be more than 700,000 individuals – of which, approximately 450,000 reside in Dubai alone. Overseas Filipinos help keep the Philippine economy afloat. As reported by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (central bank), OFWs sent a record $38.34 billion in remittances to the Philippines last year, marking a 3 per cent increase from the $37.21 billion recorded in 2023. Among the contributors are those from the US, Singapore, KSA, Japan, UK and the UAE.
