Govt puts GPS trackers on over 6k heavy vehicles
The Sindh government has accelerated a drive to ensure installation of GPS trackers in heavy vehicles, including dumpers and water tankers, to enhance road safety and reduce traffic accidents in the metropolis.
As of May 4, GPS tracking devices have been installed on at least 6617 heavy vehicles. These include 3,391 water tankers, 28 dumpers, 82 oil tankers, 214 passenger buses, and 214 small trucks. The initiative also extends to 2,763 large trucks and 137 trailers currently active on the city's roads.
In parallel with the tracker initiative, the Traffic Police have stepped up enforcement actions against traffic violations, following directives from the chief minister. The crackdown is part of a broader campaign to improve traffic discipline and address the growing concern over accidents involving heavy and unauthorised vehicles.
Since April 9, a total of 31,677 motorcycles have been impounded for various violations. Moreover, action has been taken against 2,719 vehicles for infractions such as the use of fancy number plates and tinted windows. Police have also impounded 515 large and small vehicles for non-compliance with traffic regulations.
Motor Vehicle Inspectors have recommended the cancellation of 25 vehicle registrations, while 491 others have been proposed for temporary suspension, subject to conditional release.

6,700 cops detailed for HBL PSL security
A comprehensive security plan has been devised for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 matches. A to A comprehensive and foolproof security plan has been prepared for the matches to be held at the National Bank Cricket Stadium Karachi for the PSL Season 10, which started yesterday. During PSL matches, 6,700 police personnel will provide security duties at various locations. As per the plan, 1,666 personnel of the Security Division including 950 SSU commandos and policewomen commandos, 1,390 of the Traffic Police, 328 of the Special Branch and District Police personnel along with other law enforcement agencies will perform security duties at Karachi Airport, routes, hotels and other important locations. To ensure security, expert marksmen have been deployed at sensitive locations. In addition, a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team will be on high alert at the SSU headquarters. This team will also be on patrol around the stadium to deal with any emergency. A special SSU command and control bus will also be deployed to monitor law and order around the stadium. There will be a strict ban on the use of CNG cylinders and drones inside the stadium premises. The authorities are committed to ensuring that a safe and peaceful environment is provided for players, officials, and spectators during the PSL 10 matches in Karachi. Spectators are requested to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow security protocols so that this event can be held successfully and peacefully.
