General David Allvin, US Air Force chief, retires two years before end of his four-year term; all you need to know about him
The United States Air Force chief of staff announced on Monday (August 18, 2025) that he planned to retire in the coming months but did not provide a reason. The announcement by General David Allvin was a surprise, as he had served just two years out of the typical four-year assignment by the time he retired. Allvin "announced plans today to retire effective on or about Nov. 1, 2025," the Air Force said in a statement. He "will continue to serve as chief of staff until a replacement is confirmed, which will allow time for a smooth leadership transition," the statement further read. The Air Force did not give a reason for Allvin's early departure, but President Donald Trump 's administration has forced out a series of top military officers since he returned to office earlier this year. Other senior officers dismissed this year include the heads of the Navy and Coast Guard, the general who headed the National Security Agency, the vice chief of staff of the Air Force, a Navy admiral assigned to NATO, and three top military lawyers. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has insisted the president is simply choosing the leaders he wants, but Democratic lawmakers have raised concerns about the potential politicization of the traditionally neutral US military. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like He is our only child, we cannot see him suffer. BJP Telangana head blames civic apathy for ‘Janmashtami' tragedy
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has blamed the State government and its civic agencies for their 'indifferent and callous' attitude, which he said led to the electrocution deaths of devotees during a 'Janmashtami' procession in Ramanthapur on Sunday. Speaking to the media after meeting the families of the deceased, Mr. Rao said the BJP had repeatedly cautioned civic bodies such as the CPDCL, GHMC, and HMWSSB to take preventive measures ahead of the monsoon. These included ensuring there were no hanging power cables, clearing blocked drains, and securing manhole covers. However, he alleged that the agencies had failed to act on these warnings. He demanded an increased ex-gratia of up to ₹50 lakh for the families of the victims and insisted that the incident should not be dismissed as a mere accident. Mr. Rao urged the civic authorities to undertake urgent repairs of roads and drains and to remove hanging wires on a war footing to prevent further tragedies.

BJP Leader Performs 'Aarti' Before Fatehpur Mausoleum Photo, Sparks Controversy
Last Updated: In the video, BJP leader Mukhlal Pal said as a devout "Sanatani," he is worshipping the mausoleum's image because he was unable to visit the actual disputed site News18 A video showing BJP's Fatehpur district president performing 'aarti' before a photograph of a disputed mausoleum at his home has gone viral amid growing tensions in the area. The footage has sparked controversy on social media during Janmashtami celebrations. In the video, BJP leader Mukhlal Pal said as a devout 'Sanatani," he is worshipping the mausoleum's image because he was unable to visit the actual disputed site. He urged people to carry out rituals at home and clarified that he was not worshipping at the mausoleum itself. #फतेहपुर: वाह री राजनीति…कभी मकबरे को मंदिर बताकर भीड़ जुटाओ, कभी तस्वीर को ठाकुरद्वारा बताकर घर-घर पूजा कराओ, और फिर कहते हो कानून के रास्ते लड़ाई लड़ेंगे। लगता है अब राजनीति भी फोटोशॉप वाली भक्ति पर चल रही है! #FatehpurMaqbaraAttack #UPBJP #mukhlalpal — Ds Yadav (@dsnetwork18) August 16, 2025 The controversy comes after a violent incident on the night of August 11, when members of right-wing groups stormed the mausoleum in Fatehpur, damaging graves. The unrest began after the Hindu group sent a letter on August 7 requesting permission to 'clean and beautify" the mausoleum, claiming it was a temple. Despite permission being denied, a mob breached barricades, hoisted saffron flags, performed rituals, and vandalised graves. The damaged parts have since been repaired. They claimed the site was originally a Hindu temple and demanded permission to perform prayers there. Following this, the police registered an FIR against 10 named and 150 unnamed individuals at the Fatehpur police station. The issue was raised in the state assembly by Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, who questioned why the BJP's Fatehpur unit chief's name was not included in the FIR. Officials have said that Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant has been asked to investigate and submit a report. Pant, along with Prayagraj Inspector General of Police Ajay Mishra, visited the site and met with the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to assess the situation. Security has been tightened around the mausoleum amid plans by the Hindu group Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti to hold a 'kirtan' (devotional singing) there. Following the recent vandalism, police imposed prohibitory orders restricting residents from leaving their homes without valid reasons. Over 300 police officers, two platoons of the Provincial Armed Constabulary, and Special Task Force teams have been deployed within a one-kilometre radius. The area is also under constant drone surveillance. (With inputs from PTI) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
