16 & Pregnant star Whitney Purvis granted bond in man's fatal overdose she's charged in

Daily Mail17-07-2025
MTV star Whitney Purvis has been granted a bond of $15,000 by a Georgia court Thursday in connection with her involuntary manslaughter arrest in her friend's fatal overdose.
It was not immediately clear if Purvis will be able to make bond, insiders told TMZ, who first reported news she had been granted bond in the case.
Purvis, 33, who appeared on the MTV reality show 16 and Pregnant, was arrested earlier this month in connection with the fatal February 17 drug overdose of her friend John Mark Harris at 37.
Authorities said the reality star, 33, provided him with the narcotics that led to his tragic end.
As conditional to her bond, the court demands that Purvis keep a 7 p.m. to 7 p.m. curfew; stay at a residence in Bartow County, Georgia named by the court; and refrain from consuming drugs or alcohol, TMZ reported.
Purvis is not permitted under her terms of release to initiate contact with any members of the family of the victim, the outlet reported after reviewing legal docs.
Purvis on March 3 took to the site of the funeral home which handled arrangements for John Mark Harris, and penned a memorial in his honor.
'John mark, I hate that I found out what happened today and missed your funeral,' Purvis wrote on the Henderson & Sons Funeral Home site.
She continued: 'I wish I could've found out sooner and attended your celebration of life.'
The MTV star posted the message more than three months before she was arrested Monday in Floyd County, Georgia in connection with with involuntary manslaughter and distribution of a controlled substance, among other felony counts, TMZ reported July 7.
Purvis 'distributed a substance presented as "Tranq," commonly known as Xylazine and Fentanyl, to the victim, which directly contributed in the victim's death due to a toxic overdose,' law enforcement officials said in an arrest affidavit reviewed by People.
It's been an awful year for Purvis, who would later pen an emotional memorial for her son Weston following his death at the age of 16 on June 2; Daily Mail has reached out to Purvis via Instagram for further comment on this story.
Purvis thanked her late confidante 'for being such a great friend to me and always making me feel beautiful and cared for.'
Purvis said that her late friend had been a dear one, as they grew close over their passion for cooking: 'We bonded over being chefs, our love of cooking and our struggle.'
Purvis penned an emotional statement in memory of her late friend - whose death she was subsequently charged in
Harris had been employed as a chef at Barnsley Gardens, a popular North Georgia resort.
She praised Harris for his candor and intelligence in their interactions over the years.
'I could tell you anything and you always knew what to say or give me your honest opinion and advice,' Purvis said.
The MTV alum added 'You've came to my rescue on many occasions and saved me over the years.
'I am so very thankful for the times we had together.'
Purvis - who's also charged with use of a communication device to commit a felony involving controlled substances - said that she was dealing with serious emotional trauma over the loss of her friend.
'My brain just can't process this happened,' she said. 'I don't want it to be true.'
Purvis listed off a number of things she associated with Harris that she would miss in the wake of his passing.
'I'll miss waking up to your silly messages and pictures you'd send me,' she said. 'I'll miss marshal and lunchbox. I'll miss your amazing cooking.
'I'll miss snuggling on the couch watching tv with you. I'll miss sitting outside, smoking camel crush cigs w/ you how we talked about talked about life, gossiping and you telling me what movies/shows I need to watch next.'
Purvis characterized her late friend as 'a truly good hearted, one of a kind man' who she would 'never forget.'
Purvis, who has more than 17,800 followers on Instagram, wrapped up in saying: 'Rest in peace and my condolences to your family and friends.
'I pray they are able to find some kind of comfort during this tragic time. I love you forever, John Mark. Love, Whitney.'
Following the death of her son last month, Purvis spoke on social media about how she was understandably struggling in the wake of her child's unexpected passing.
'This is so hard to write,' Purvis said. 'My beautiful son, Weston has passed away. He was only 16 years old. Life is so cruel and unfair. I just dont understand.
'Oh my baby is gone and I don't know what to do with myself. He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true.
'How do you go on in life after losing a child?'
Purvis said she was 'in disbelief,' thinking that 'this cannot be happening' and that she didn't 'want it to be real.'
She added of her late son: 'I love you so much, Weston Owen Gosa. I would do anything just to hold him. Words just can't describe the pain I am feeling.
'God, I love you so much. You are my heart. I was so proud of the young man you were becoming. I just can't go on without you.
Rest in Peace, my angel. You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 - June 2, 2025.'

Sergeant in custody after shooting five soldiers on Georgia base, army says

An active-duty soldier opened fire at Fort Stewart military base in south-east Georgia on Wednesday, wounding five other soldiers before being taken into custody. All victims are in stable condition and expected to recover. Three of the soldiers required surgery, and two were transferred to Memorial Health University medical center in Savannah, the top-level trauma center for coastal Georgia. Brig Gen John Lubas, commander of the third infantry division and Fort Stewart-Hunter army airfield, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the alleged shooter was 28-year-old Sgt Quornelius Radford, who was assigned to Fort Stewart. 'The shooting occurred at the soldier's place of work,' Lubas said. 'It did involve his co-workers. We're still not certain about the motivations, but again, he's been interviewed by army investigators, and we believe we'll gain more information here shortly.' Parts of the base had been locked down earlier on Wednesday after a shooter was reported on the sprawling army post, a spokesperson said. The base later issued an all-clear, and gates were reopened at Fort Stewart, Wright army airfield and Evans army airfield. Lubas said soldiers in the area who witnessed the shooting 'immediately and without hesitation tackled the soldier, subdued him. That allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody.' The base said in a Facebook post that the shooting occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. 'All soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment,' the base said. Lubas confirmed the shooter did not use a military weapon. 'We believe it was a personal handgun,' he said. Located about 40 miles south-west of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest army post east of the Mississippi River. It is home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the army's third infantry division and family members. Almost 9,000 people live on the huge Fort Stewart base, according to Military OneSource, a defense department program. Hinesville, the city outside the front gate in Liberty county, is estimated to have a population of about 35,000 people indicating what a dominant influence the military base is in the area, and more than 18,000 military retirees live within a 50-mile radius. The sprawling army complex includes schools for service members' families, and stores and recreational services across the area. Three schools nearby had also ordered a lockdown following the base shooting. The lockdown was lifted at around noon local time, shortly after it emerged that the shooter had been apprehended and was no longer considered a threat to the community. During a White House event, Donald Trump called the Fort Stewart shooting an 'atrocity' and said the shooter would be 'prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law'. 'The entire nation is praying for the victims and their families, and hopefully they'll fully recover,' Trump said. An FBI spokesperson said that their Savannah satellite office 'is aware of the incident at Fort Stewart and is coordinating with Army Criminal Investigations Division for any assistance that might be needed'. The AP reports that Radford enlisted in January 2018. He worked as a supply sergeant and has not been faced a 20 August hearing in Hinesville, a small town near the base, on accusations of driving under the influence and running a red light just after 1am on 18 May, according to a citation and court filing. He was given a blood test and released on a $1,818 bond, records show. The homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, said she had been briefed on the shooting and would be closely monitoring the situation. Georgia's governor, Brian Kemp, posted on X saying he and his wife and daughters were saddened by the shooting. 'We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.' Senator Raphael Warnock, a Democrat from Georgia, also posted an expression of sympathy in the wake of the shooting. 'I'm heartbroken to see the news of an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart today,' Warnock said on Wednesday. 'I'm monitoring the situation closely and join all of Georgia as we pray for the safety of our servicemembers, staff, and their families.' A previous shooting had taken place at Fort Stewart, when an army sergeant was killed in 2022. Sgt Nathan Hillman, a 30-year-old from Pennsylvania, and an Afghan veteran, died during the shooting on 12 December 2022. Reuters and the Associated Press contributed reporting

Soldier shoots five at US military base

A soldier has been arrested on suspicion of shooting five of his colleagues at a US army base in Georgia. Fort Stewart was locked down shortly after 11am local time over an 'active shooter incident' in its 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team area. All those who were injured were soldiers. The gunman was on 'active military duty', CNN reported. Authorities named the suspect as Quornelius Radford, a sergeant assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, which is part of the 3rd Infantry Division and stationed at Fort Stewart. All of the injured soldiers are in a stable condition and are expected to make a stable recovery, although three required surgery. 'The shooting occurred at the soldiers' place of work,' Brig Gen John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, told reporters on Wednesday. 'It did involve his co-workers. We're still not certain about the motivation.' When the gunman opened fire, soldiers in the area tackled and subdued him, allowing law enforcement to take him into custody, Brig Gen Lubas continued. 'These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties,' he said He said Sgt Radford had been previously arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, but clarified that the sergeant's superiors were unaware of this. 'I do believe he was arrested locally for a DUI. That was unknown to his chain of command until the event occurred and we started looking into the law enforcement databases,' he said. The suspect used a handgun rather than a military weapon, he added. Sgt Radford is said to be in 'pre-trial confinement' and being interviewed by army investigators. He was apprehended at around 11.35am local time (4.35pm UK). The injured soldiers were treated on the base before being moved to Winn Army Community Hospital. 'Please join me in prayers for the casualties, their families, and the brave law enforcement officers working to protect our community,' said Buddy Carter, a Republican congressman representing the district that includes Fort Stewart. Sgt Radford is awaiting a charging decision by the Office of the Special Trial Counsel, an army body responsible for prosecuting serious crimes. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office released a mugshot of Sgt Radford following his arrest for driving under the influence in May. Public records indicate Sgt Radford, who had never been deployed to combat, is 28 and used to live in Jacksonville, Florida. As the incident unfolded, personnel were ordered to stay inside and lock all their windows and doors. Law enforcement was dispatched to the base, which is around 40 miles south-west of Savannah, at around 10.56am. Brian Kemp, the governor of Georgia, said: 'We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.' Local schools, which had returned for their first day of term after the summer holidays, also went into lockdown out of what authorities called an 'abundance of caution'. In December 2022, infantryman Shay Wilson, 28, was charged with shooting and killing Sgt Nathan Hillman, a veteran of the Afghanistan War, at Fort Stewart. The case is still pending. Like Sgt Radford, Mr Wilson was assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, and was allegedly subdued by fellow officers. Fort Stewart opened as an anti-aircraft training facility in 1940, steadily growing in size in the decades since. The largest military installation east of the Mississippi, it now covers some 280,000 acres, an area roughly the size of New York City. More than 10,000 people live on the base, including soldiers, civilian army employees and their families. Donald Trump, the US president, called the incident an 'atrocity' when he spoke at the White House later on Wednesday. 'Five people are seriously wounded, and two very, very seriously,' he told reporters. 'The army criminal investigation division is on site to ensure that the perpetrator of this atrocity, which is exactly what it is, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. 'The entire nation is praying for the victims and their families, and hopefully they'll fully recover and put this chapter behind them. But we're not going to forget what happened. 'We're going to take very good care of this person that did this,' Mr Trump added, calling the suspected gunman a 'horrible person'.
