Lokesh vows to transform AP with ‘double engine' governance
1 2 3 4 Guntur: Urging the youth to follow Mahatma Gandhi's advice — "Be the change you wish to see in the world" — IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh said the state govt, under the leadership and vision of chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is working with the same spirit and commitment to transform Andhra Pradesh into a developed state. Lokesh hoisted the Tricolour at the police parade grounds to mark the 79th Independence Day celebrations on Friday, and took the guard of honour. Addressing the gathering, he said Andhra Pradesh witnessed "dark days" from 2019 to 2024. "The previous govt accumulated ₹10 lakh crore in debt, pushing the state back by 30 years. Development lost its track during their regime. People created history with a 94% strike rate in 2024, giving 164 seats to the NDA, breaking all records and establishing a people's govt," he said. With chief minister Naidu's vision being a constant guiding force in taking up revolutionary decisions, the double-engine govt has guided the state from darkness to light, Lokesh said. "The Centre has provided funds for the construction of Amaravati as the capital and for Polavaram project. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support, the govt was also able to save Vizag Steel Plant and establish the railway zone in Visakhapatnam. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find your car's value online in minutes. He said the 'Super Six' promises made by the chief minister have become a "super hit," as they were implemented within a year of coming to power. "The govt increased pensions to Rs 4,000, Rs 6,000 for the differently-abled, and Rs 15,000 for bedridden beneficiaries. Rs 7,000 was disbursed to farmers in the first phase under Annadata Sukheebhava scheme. Additionally, the govt has provided two crore free gas cylinders to women under the Deepam scheme and launched free travel for women on APSRTC buses under Stree Shakti scheme," Lokesh said. He highlighted the launch of 'Thalli ki Vandanam' scheme, which provides Rs 15,000 to mothers of each schoolgoing child. A total of Rs 10,091 crore has been disbursed to 67.27 lakh children under the scheme, he said. He pointed out that while the previous govt failed to fill even a single teacher post, the NDA govt has filled 16,347 posts through a mega DSC. "We aim to create 20 lakh jobs and have already secured agreements for Rs 9.35 lakh crore in investments, creating 8.5 lakh jobs through companies like ArcelorMittal, NTPC, BPCL, TCS, Cognizant, Sattva, ANSR, LG Electronics, and Renew," Lokesh said. He added that the govt has revamped the curriculum from KG to PG and introduced semester-wise books to reduce the burden on students. The minister said approximately 82.57 lakh beneficiaries in the state are receiving direct deposits (DBT) through an Aadhaar-based transfer system every month. For farmers affected by natural calamities, the compensation software was upgraded to provide swift, transparent, and accurate relief directly to their bank accounts without any intermediaries, she added. Stating that the implementation of five guarantee schemes announced during the elections is ongoing, Hebbalkar said that the govt's performance received praise from experts both domestically and internationally. The proposal to upgrade Udupi City Municipality to a city corporation is under review by the govt, she said. Special attention is being given to developing tourism as a major sector in the district. August Dry Days: Check When Liquor Shops Will Be Closed In Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru
Last Updated: Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have announced dry days during festival season. Liquor sales will be banned on Independence Day, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi. As the festival season kicks off in August, authorities in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have released a list of dry days. On these days, all bars, pubs, restaurants, wine stores, and liquor shops across the cities will be closed. The restriction will be imposed on a 24-hour basis. Dry Days In Delhi The Delhi administration has scheduled consecutive dry days this week, closing all liquor shops on Independence Day and Janmashtami. The liquor vends in different licence categories were closed on August 15 for Independence Day and will be closed on August 16 for Janmasthami, Hindustan Times quoted an order issued by the Delhi government's excise department as saying. The order said that in addition, all liquor vends, bars, restaurants, hotels, and clubs will remain closed on Independence Day and on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. Dry Days In Mumbai Ahead of the grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations starting on 27 August in Maharashtra, the state government has issued strict regulations on liquor sales in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Apart from 15 August, the state excise department has marked multiple days when the sale of alcohol will be prohibited in Mumbai. All liquor shops, bars, pubs, and wine stores remained closed on 15 August for Independence Day and will be closed on 16 August for Janmashtami, the celebration of Lord Krishna's birth. The state has marked a strict ban on the sale of alcohol in Mumbai on 27 August and 6 September, the first and last days of Ganesh Chaturthi. During the 10-day grand festival, concluding with Anant Chaturdashi (Visarjan Day) on 6 September, dry days could be enforced on 5 September due to public processions and large gatherings. If needed, restrictions may apply throughout the entire festival, with a complete ban on the sale of alcohol by licensed shops, restaurants, or bars. However, there is no bar on private consumption, but purchasing alcohol on these days will not be possible. Dry Days In Bengaluru The Bengaluru administration imposed two consecutive dry days this week. Liquor was banned on 15 August for Independence Day and will again be banned on 16 August for Janmashtami. On these two days, there will be a 48-hour restriction on the sale of alcohol through licensed vendors, restaurants, or bars across the city. Additionally, Ganesh Chaturthi on 27 August is expected to be a dry day in Bengaluru. Like Mumbai, the administration may also enforce extra restrictions during the immersion celebrations on 6 September.
