ISWK [Cambridge] Students Bring Glory to Oman at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship 2025
We are thrilled to announce that our students from ISWK [Cambridge] have brought immense pride to the nation by representing Oman Yogasana Federation at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship, held from 25th to 27th April 2025 at the prestigious Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, India.
Organized by Asian Yogasana (recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia) and hosted by Yogasana Bharat, the championship saw the participation of over 476 athletes from 21 countries, including India, Japan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Nepal.
With a strong display of discipline, skill, and commitment, Oman secured the 4th position in the overall medal tally, winning a total of 11 medals – 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 7 Bronze
We are proud to highlight the achievements of students from ISWK [Cambridge]:
● Vivaan Rai (Grade 9C) – Won Silver and Bronze in the 'Back Bending' and 'Traditional' events (Under-10 to 18 Boys).
● Yashvi Rajesh Babariya (Grade 6C) – Won Bronze in the 'Back Bending' event (Under-10 to 18+ Girls).
● Paranjay Sanyev Vyas (Grade 8C) – Won Bronze in the 'Forward Bending' event (Under-10 to 18 Boys).
● Sanmat Kaur Ajmani (Grade 6C) – Participated in the Yogasana event.
Their team coach, Mr. Bikram Mishra, also added to Oman's medal count with two Bronze medals in the Senior (U35–U45) category.
This landmark performance was made possible under the leadership of Ms. Salha Hakim Mohammed (President of Oman Yogasana Federation), Ms. Anuradha Murugan (Team Coach, Technical Official & Foundation Secretary from Oman), and Ms. Halima Al Mataani (Team Manager) who were instrumental in ensuring the team's preparedness and participation.
This achievement is a proud moment not only for Oman but for ISWK [Cambridge]. It reflects our school's commitment to nurturing holistic development and excellence in both academics and co-curricular pursuits.

Lord's holds a special place in Smith's career. He led the Proteas to the number one Test ranking after a memorable match against England at Lord's back in 2012. It was a pulsating duel that went down to the wire, and the contest was settled with a 51-run triumph for South Africa in the final hour of Day Five. "Lord's is a special, special place. Right from when I watched South African teams play there as a youngster, there were always positive memories. There's so much that comes with it and getting that out the way as you build into playing your games there is important. There's nothing like walking down the stairs through those Member stands and out to a packed Lord's," he said. "It's an incredible feeling, one of those goosebump moments in your career. It's something that I really cherish. For me personally, in 2003, going there, getting a double hundred, winning the Test match, and Makhaya getting 10 wickets is the most incredible first experience of Lord's," he recalled.

Oman hopes for direct World Cup spot dashed as Jordan win 3-0 in Muscat
MUSCAT- A dominating Jordan outplayed hosts Oman 3-0 in their penultimate AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26 Group B tie at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Thursday. The defeat ended Rasheed Jaber-coached Red Warriors' hopes of a direct spot from the group as the top two would seal the berth. With just one game remaining, Oman, now at 10 points, can manage only three more points, which would not be enough to even keep the third spot as they are now fourth. South Korea lead the standings and have qualified with 17 points while Jordan after the win are second at 16. Iraq are third with 13 and the match between Jordan and Iraq in Amman on 10 June will decide the second team from the group to seal the spot. Oman take on Palestine in their final game of the round on 10 June with Palestine at fifth spot with seven points. Kuwait are at bottom with six points. Jordan will remain in pole position against Iraq as they only have to avoid defeat to advance. Jordan's win against Oman was marked by Ali Olwan's hat-trick. At the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, both sides tested each other in the first 10 minutes, and Oman captain and keeper Faiz Al Rusheidi had his first shot of adrenaline when Mousa Al Ta'mari put the ball past him in the 11th minute only for the Ligue 1 midfielder to be ruled offside. The hosts' slow and steady build-up was hampered by poor finishing, with Abdul Al Mushaifri and Harib Al Saadi both fluffing their shots in the 15th and 19th minutes respectively. Issam Al Sabhi then had a golden opportunity to put Oman ahead, but his close range shot in the 24th minute was resolutely palmed away by keeper Yazeed Abulaila. A brilliant through ball from Al Saadi from his own half in the 31st minute found Al Sabhi, who controlled the pass with his first touch but then stumbled under pressure in the box. Jordan, who only had two shots at goal in regulation, were awarded a penalty five minutes into time added on after a VAR review found Mohannad Taha had been brought down, with Olwan duly converting to give his side the advantage going into the break. Shifas excels in World Masters Games in Taipei
KABEER YOUSUF @kabiyousef An expatriate sports teacher in Oman has bagged bronze medal in the 35+ handball category at the World Masters Games 2025 held in Taipei which in turn has also marked India's first-ever international medal in Handball. PB Shifas, a handball and basketball coach at the Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (ISWK) feels all his 15 years of imparting training at the school, clubbed with his skill and leadership on the court were instrumental in securing this milestone victory at the international sporting event. 'This is a proud moment not only for handball as a sport but for every aspiring player across the continent who wants to excel in their chosen sports arena,' said Shifas, adding 'It's an honour to represent the country of my birth and the country of my choice 'Oman', and is an incredible honour.' The team led by Shifas displayed exceptional teamwork, determination, and passion, overcoming tough international competition to bring glory to the nation. The ISWK school management said that this achievement not only marks a personal milestone for Shifas but also India's first-ever international medal in handball, making it a defining moment in the country's sporting history. The teams have consistently excelled, participating in national-level tournaments for the last 11 years under his mentorship. 'This is a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir and all Indian schools in Oman. Shifas' dedication, perseverance, and passion for sports have not only led to this prestigious international recognition but also continue to inspire our students every day. We salute his spirit and contribution," said DN Rao, Principal of ISWK. Before achieving international recognition, Shifas was a prominent handball player in India, having represented Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University for an impressive six consecutive years.
