Future of country is in the classrooms: CM Revanth Reddy

The Hindu28-05-2025
Individuals in society are recognised for their education rather than their caste affiliation. Dalits, tribals and weaker sections in the State must give up their sense of inferiority and be more confident for the government is establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIRS) to prepare them to compete on the world stage, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said on Wednesday.
Speaking at the awards distribution ceremony for students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) held at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan here, he said that leaders who strive for people will be remembered in history — such as Suravaram Pratap Reddy after whom the Telugu University is named now and the women's university after 'Veeranari' Chakali Ilamma.
'Why did the BRS government not take steps to encourage weaker sections as stakeholders in the government by providing education? They had introduced goat, sheep and fish distribution schemes and neglected the weaker sections,' he said.
Mr. Reddy added that his government made several Dalit appointments — such as the first Dalit Vice Chancellor in the history of Osmania University, Telangana Education Commission Chairman Akunuri Murali and Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar — 'and all of them have been recognised because of their educational background and not caste.'
Exhorting students to work hard to excel in their careers, to make their parents and the State proud, Mr. Reddy said the future of the country is in the classrooms.
Future of children
At the event, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka shared the government's resolve to build a socially just Telangana.
Citing allocation and utilisation of funds under SC/ST Sub-Plan of ₹40,232 crore for SC welfare and ₹17,169 crore for ST welfare in the recent budget, and carrying forward the the unspent funds of ₹13,223 crore and ₹1,296 crore respectively by the previous government, he said the government is committed to the people and for a comprehensive development.
Affirming the government's commitment for the development of children from BC, SC, ST, minorities and economically weaker sections, Mr. Vikramarka said, 'the future of these children is indeed the future of our State — we are ready to spend any amount for their development.'

Ex-MLA booked for breaching ‘No politics in Tirumala' rule

Tirumala: Tirumala police have registered a case against former YSRCP MLA and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's maternal uncle P Ravindranath Reddy for allegedly making political statements in Tirumala, in violation of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board's resolution banning political speeches in the hill shrine. Reddy had visited the Lord Venkateswara temple on Sunday for darshan and later addressed the media outside the shrine. During the interaction, he reportedly criticised the ruling coalition and spoke about political developments in Kadapa district, including the Pulivendula ZPTC by-election. The TTD board, in a recent decision, prohibited political speeches and allegations within Tirumala to protect the sanctity of the temple. This ban applies to all public representatives and visitors alike. Following a written complaint from Vigilance Inspector V Damodar, Tirumala One Town police registered Crime No 47/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Police said they are reviewing the footage of Reddy's remarks. Sources indicated that a notice could soon be served to the former MLA, asking him to explain why legal action should not proceed for breaching the 'no politics in Tirumala' rule.

We all have to bow to high command's decisions

Bengaluru: Reactingto Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna's resignation, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Monday that all the leaders and workers bow to the high command's decisions. 'Rajanna is my close friend. We have pursued politics together for 25 years. I am also pained. Nothing can be done; it is a party decision. You all know the context in which this decision has been taken. We all have to bow to the decision of the party high command,' said Shivakumar. He said that he was informed about the decision by the Chief Minister. 'Ministers and MLAs do not come under my jurisdiction. In the case of MLAs, we can issue notices and take minor actions, but the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader controls the legislators,' he claimed. Meanwhile, sources said that Monday's development has strengthened Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar's position within the Congress party over Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Rajanna, a close associate of Siddaramaiah, had openly supported Siddaramaiah while targeting Shivakumar. Rajanna, who was the State Cooperation Minister, was asked to submit his resignation after his remark against the LoP Rahul Gandhi's press conference on the voter fraud. 'If there was voter fraud, the state Congress should have pointed it out much earlier,' he had said. Meanwhile, taking to social media X, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said that Rajanna, a senior ST leader and Cooperation Minister, was removed from the cabinet for merely speaking the truth - an honest admission which every Kannadiga knows. 'Yet in the Congress party, truth is treated as a threat, especially when it comes from a leader of a marginalised community whose voice they have long tried to silence.' 'This is the true face of Congress, anti-Dalit, anti-ST, anti-democratic and anti-truth. It also exposes the hollowness of Siddaramaiah's claims of championing the AHINDA cause. When leaders from these communities are targeted, he does not defend them. Instead, he bows to the diktats of the Delhi High Command to safeguard his own position as Chief Minister,' said Vijayendra.

Blunt talk, controversies mark rise and fall of minister Rajanna

Bengaluru: Senior Congress legislator KN Rajanna, from a Scheduled Tribe community, has built his political career as much on his grassroots connect as on his flair for courting controversy. Representing Madhugiri in Tumakuru district, Rajanna, a staunch supporter of chief minister Siddaramaiah , has repeatedly stirred political debates with his outspoken remarks that often challenged his own party's positions. From advocating multiple deputy chief ministerial posts to backing a Dalit as chief minister, his statements have frequently ruffled feathers — especially those of DK Shivakumar , deputy CM and his camp. His admission of voter list lapses when Congress was at the helm, contradicting the party's stance, has now cost him his ministerial position. When the Siddaramaiah govt took oath in 2023, the list of potential ministers was split between Siddaramaiah loyalists, party loyalists and Shivakumar loyalists. While some party loyalists were picked, none from Shivakumar's camp made the cut. Siddaramaiah had the final say in drawing up his team and he picked Rajanna despite stiff opposition. Rajanna, 74, has held his ground in Madhugiri, a general category seat, despite being an ST. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo He won the seat in 2013 and 2023, and earlier in 2004 from Bellavi (part of Madhugiri) on a JD(S) ticket. His political career began with a victory in the Tumakuru local bodies constituency to the Karnataka legislative council in 1998, where he served for six years. After being denied a Congress ticket for Bellavi in 2004, he crossed over to JD(S) and won. He returned to Congress in 2008 but lost to JD(S) candidate DC Gowrishankar. He contested again in the byelection after Gowrishankar defected to BJP under Operation Lotus, but was defeated by HD Deve Gowda's daughter-in-law, Anitha Kumaraswamy. Persisting through losses, Rajanna won in 2013, lost in 2018, and returned to the assembly in 2023. Controversy has often followed him. After his 2018 loss, Rajanna is said to have played a key role in Gowda's defeat, the JD(S)-Congress alliance candidate, from the Tumkur Lok Sabha seat in 2019. Ahead of the 2023 polls, he remarked that Gowda, "who needed the assistance of two people to walk, would soon need four people to carry him". He later apologised in public for the remark. After taking oath as cooperation minister in 2023, Rajanna argued for "more than one deputy chief minister," a direct challenge to Shivakumar's position. Earlier this year, he caused a stir in the legislative assembly by claiming that he was "honey-trapped". Despite repeated warnings from the Congress high command, he stayed steadfastly loyal to Siddaramaiah, repeatedly dismissing any talk of a change of CM. Sources say Siddaramaiah tried hard to persuade the high command not to seek his resignation but in vain. Rajanna's next moves will be interesting as he has been aspiring to become state Congress president, a post which Shivakumar now holds.
