Graybar Announces Record 2024 Financial Results

Reports Record $11.6 Billion in 2024 Net Sales
Celebrates 100th Anniversary as Independent Company in 2025
ST. LOUIS, March 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical, industrial, automation and connectivity products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services, today announced its 2024 financial results.
Graybar, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary as an independent company this year, reported a record $11.6 billion in 2024 net sales, an increase of 5.5% over the prior year. The company has achieved record net sales in 12 of the past 13 years, with the exception occurring in 2020 due to the global pandemic.
Graybar reported $423.1 million in net income in 2024, the third highest net income in the company's history. Net income declined by 8.7% over 2023, predominantly due to the company's significant investments in Graybar Connect, a multi-year, strategic business transformation project detailed below.
'Graybar's record sales performance in 2024 demonstrates our ability to deliver continued profitable growth while investing in our future,' said Kathleen M. Mazzarella, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Graybar. 'Employee ownership underpins this long-term mindset and is critical to everything we do. This approach has been a consistent aspect of our culture since Western Electric spun off Graybar as a separate business in 1925. Graybar's employees purchased the company in 1929, and we have been 100 percent owned by our employees and retirees ever since. At a time when American businesses are frequently bought and sold by investors on public markets, Graybar's consistent structure stands apart. We do business the right way, deliver on our promises and always look to leave our company better than we found it.'
During 2024, Graybar invested in its future through several key initiatives, including:
Invested for profitable, diversified growth through acquisitions, including Blazer Electric Supply, an electrical distributor in Colorado, Dynamic Solutions in California (through subsidiary Valin Corporation) and Power Supply Company in Tennessee (through subsidiary Cape Electrical Supply).
Invested in advanced technology through Graybar Connect, a multi-year project focused on transforming the company's technology, data, processes and organization. After several years of investments, Graybar plans to launch a new core ERP system in 2025. This represents the company's first major milestone toward reimagining its operating model and process framework. As the new system provides employees with advanced capabilities and analytics, it also sets the stage for future phases of the project, all with the goal of supporting long-term growth, improved profitability and an enhanced customer and employee experience.
Invested in the next generation of leaders, with key leadership appointments across its regional business units, as well as Sales, Operations, Strategic Planning and Customer Experience. The company knows that strong leadership is vital to its long-term success and continues to prepare its managers to step into roles of greater responsibility across the organization.
Mazzarella concluded, 'Today's business environment is more complex and uncertain than ever before. The pace of change continues to accelerate, and sustaining our leadership position requires us to strategically invest in our future through initiatives like Graybar Connect. Graybar's strong balance sheet gives us the financial flexibility to manage through challenges, while we capitalize on opportunities in new markets, new customers, new technologies and of course, acquisitions.'

Tesla Is in the S&P 500: 4 Things That Means for Investors in 2025

Tesla (TSLA) stock has had its up and downs of late, but it's certainly been up over time. Tesla is part of the S&P 500; the index most analysts use to measure the overall market. Explore More: Consider This: What does Tesla's presence on the S&P 500 mean for investors in 2025? Here's what you need to know. Tesla Is Number 9 on the S&P 500 As the name implies, there are 500 stocks on the S&P 500. Tesla is number nine on this list, which means it carries more weight on the index than 98% of the companies on the list, per Slickcharts. Find Out: Tesla Makes Up Nearly 2% of the Index The S&P 500 is a weighted index, with the larger companies higher on the list and comprising a larger percentage of the overall metric. In the case of Tesla, its stock makes up 1.82% of the total S&P 500 index. Tech Stocks Dominate The top 10 stocks in the S&P 500, which make up 38% of the index, are nearly all tech or tech-adjacent stocks. They are Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta, Broadcom, Alphabet (Class A), Alphabet (Class C), Tesla and Berkshire Hathaway. This Can All Add Up to Volatility The S&P 500 is a bellwether for the general market, so it is expected to have some volatility. But the heavy concentration of tech stocks could mean extra volatility, especially as tariffs take effect and companies are incented to move manufacturing to the U.S. Tesla, for example, is up 68% in the past year but down 20% year to date, as of Aug. 7, 2025, according to Yahoo! Finance. Its 52-week range is $192.04 to $488.54 — a very wide spread, particularly for a company of its size. What Is the S&P 500? The S&P500 consists of 500 of the largest U.S. stocks, weighted by market capitalization. This means that the largest companies are represented by a larger percentage than smaller companies. Nvidia is the largest company in the S&P 500 and represents 7.72% of the total index. The S&P 500 is broadly used as an indicator for the stock market overall, and, by extension, the health of the U.S. economy. While the Dow Jones Industrial Average (commonly referred to as 'the Dow' or even 'the market') is often what news outlets report on, that index consists of just 30 stocks. The S&P 500 represents more companies and therefore may be a better barometer for the health of the market. The S&P 500 isn't always the same 500 companies. Companies can be added and removed, based on decisions by the experts at the S&P Dow Jones Indices. These decisions are made four times a year. To be included in the S&P 500, a company must have a market capitalization of at least $22.7 billion in the most recent quarter, according to Charles Schwab. It must have been profitable for at least the last four quarters. It must be based in the United States, and its stock must be traded on an approved U.S. stock exchange. When it was announced that Tesla would be added to the S&P 500 in 2020, its shares gained 60% from the time the announcement was made until it was actually included the following month. A company's shares will often spike when it is added to the index, if for no other reason than that such stocks are included in many index funds that seek to mirror the performance of the S&P 500 itself. Tesla remains profitable despite its recent sales declines. At its July earnings call, the company reported that profits declined for the third quarter in a row, The New York Times reported. If the company were to report a quarterly loss, it would risk being removed from the S&P 500. The inclusion of Tesla on the S&P 500 is certainly justified, given the company's success. Whether it remains there will depend on the company's ability to continue to record profitable results. Home Depot's big-ticket sales pick up despite tariffs and interest rates

Home Depot reported worse-than-expected sales in its most recent quarter, but the company's big-ticket items picked up momentum despite tariffs and elevated interest rates applying pressure to the home improvement industry. Why it matters: Home Depot's performance is reflective of the status of the American housing market and the broader economy. Driving the news: The Atlanta-based retailer posted a 1% increase in comparable sales for the second quarter, trailing consensus estimates of 1.5%, according to Bank of America analysts. Total customer transactions fell 0.9%, but the average ticket size rose by 1.2%. The company maintained its full-year sales and earnings guidance. Zoom in: Home Depot recorded a 2.6% increase in comparable purchases of more than $1,000, CEO Ted Decker said on an earnings call. "These may be shallow gains, but they show a material strengthening over the last quarter and provide confidence that the slump in home improvement is finally over," GlobalData analyst Neil Saunders wrote Tuesday. The company's stock was up 3.6% in morning trading. The big picture: The earnings release came the same day the federal government reported that U.S. housing starts hit a seasonally adjusted five-month high of 1.428 million units in July. Yes, but: Tariffs and interest rates continue to undermine remodelers and home builders. "Our customers still tell us that the rate environment is giving them pause on larger remodeling projects that would typically require debt financing," Home Depot's chief financial officer, Richard McPhail, said on the earnings call. But the retailer's professional customers say "their customers tell them they're deferring projects, they're not canceling projects," McPhail added. What to watch: Tariffs will lead to "some modest price movement in some categories, but it won't be broad based," William Bastek, executive VP of merchandising, said on the earnings call.
