Duo take on Top Gear-style old car Alps challenge
Two men are set for a Top Gear-style challenge when they drive an old banger across the Alps for charity.
Ashley Brough was tasked with buying a car for £1,000 or less, so he could take part in the Rusty Rally organised by young people's charity The Outward Bound Trust.
He and friend Wayne Murcott, from Shenstone, Staffordshire, will be one of 10 teams on the four-day tour, which will take the convoy through France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Austria.
Mr Brough, from Uttoxeter, told BBC Radio Stoke he had decided to take on a 25-year-old Mercedes diesel estate car, which "smelled like someone had died in it" when he got it,
"I've been using a lot of air fresheners," he said.
"My wife calls it a hearse. It was pretty ropey, I'll be honest with you, but I think that's the beauty of the challenge."
The adventure begins in Annecy, France on Wednesday, with Mr Brough and Mr Murcott driving under the team name "Les Knobbies".
As part of preparations, the vehicle has been checked over by local dealership Angus MacKinnon and Mr Brough said that while he was a "little bit worried", he was confident he would not have a brake or tyre failure.
"It's going to be bittersweet, because in one half of my mind I'm going to be worried to death that were going to be breaking down," he said.
"On the other hand, it's going to be the most stunning scenery that I'll be taking in."
Mr Brough, who chairs The Community Foundation for Staffordshire and Shropshire, has already raised more than £10,000 for The Outward Bound Trust so far, with the event as a whole aiming to raise £100,000.
The charity runs outdoor adventures and courses for young people with the aim of encouraging them to get out of their comfort zone.

Justin Reid picks off Kyler Murray to win NFL chess tournament
In the fourth edition of Blitzchamps, a chess tournament featuring eight current and former NFL players, Justin Reid emerged as the winner, taking home the largest share of the $100,000 prize pool for charity. Two-time Super Bowl-winning safety Reid, who signed with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, won his second straight Blitzchamps, beating Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray in the finals on June 16. The eight participants to compete for charity in high-speed chess were Reid, Murray, Justin Herbert, Mack Hollins, Richard Sherman, Rashawn Slater, AJ Dillon, and Harrison Phillips. Germany U21 predicted XI versus England U21
Germany will look to secure top spot in Group B with a win against defending champions England in the under-21 EUROS. In their first two group games, Germany put in two very convincing displays against Slovenia (3-0 win) and Czechia (4-2 win) and have laid down a statement for their intent in this competition. Advertisement Antonio di Salvio has named an unchanged side in the previous two games, and it is likely that he will do it again as they face a tough England side. Germany's squad is a team that is full of Bundesliga experience, with several players regulars for their teams and a large group of them also playing in the upper echelons of the league. It goes to show the wealth of talent this current Germany under-21 side possesses. The only change will be Max Rosenfelder. The Freiburg centre-back picked up two yellow cards meaning he will be suspended for the final group game. The standout for the Germany team in this competition has been Nick Woltemade. The Stuttgart striker has been unplayable in the previous two games, with a hat-trick against Slovenia and then a goal and two assists against Czechia. After his breakthrough season at the MHP Arena this season, next season is already set to be a big one for the striker named 'Woltemessi'. Player to Watch: Nicolo Tresoldi The Italian-born striker has had a quiet Euros compared to his striker partner. However, the 20-year-old already has a goal and an assist in two games. After a poor season at Hannover and a goal drought with the national team, Tresoldi can use this tournament as a jump pad to allow him to start fresh at Club Brugge next summer. Advertisement There are also plenty of other names that could be pointed out, such as Rocco Reitz and Paul Nebel in midfield. The latter had a great season with Mainz as they qualified for the Conference League.
