Andy Cohen's ‘And Just Like That' Cameo, Explained

Cosmopolitan2 days ago
Yes, that really was Andy Cohen trying to sell Carrie shoes on And Just Like That last night. And, no, it's not as random as you think it is. The king of Bravo's And Just Like That cameo actually plays into the much wider Sex and the City lore and proves what I have always suspected: There is no version of New York City without Andy Cohen—not even on TV.
Andy appeared in the July 24 episode 'Present Tense' as a shoe salesman who clearly has a history with our favorite footwear addict, Carrie. 'Hey Carrie! I am slammed, but I'm going to be right with you,' he says, walking by with a few boxes of shoes. Carrie, who was in the middle of—spoiler alert—yet another fight with Aiden, responds, 'Oh, thanks. I'm just looking today, Daniel.'
If this felt like a random way for a very famous New Yorker to have a cameo in And Just Like That, then you're clearly missing some key background. Yes, Andy and Sarah Jessica Parker are famously BFFs, and, yes, he could have easily played himself (he's done it before), but this is more than just a mere celebrity cameo. This is Sex and the City history.
In case you didn't know, Andy actually first originated the character of Daniel way back in 2004 in the Sex and the City episode 'Let There Be Light.' Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration seeing as how he was basically a glorified extra with no lines. But, that hasn't stopped his 2004 cameo from delighting fans mid-rewatch for decades.
Andy joked about his character's growth with a throwback Instagram post, thanking And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King for 'bringing back the BELOVED character of 'Barney's Shoe Salesman'... who is now a Bergdorf's Shoe salesman named DANIEL!' Wow, a name and a job change? That Daniel's had a busy 20 years.
So, now that Andy's shoe salesman has a name, does this mean we're going to get confirmation that Daniel the shoe salesman is also the unnamed shirtless man in a gay bar Andy appeared as a few years prior to his big break as 'shoe salesman'? The world needs to know.

Gwyneth Paltrow is Astronomer's ‘temporary spokesperson' in new video

There's a lot of buzz around Astronomer, the data infrastructure company that skyrocketed into public attention after its executives - now former executives - gave us the viral Coldplay 'kiss cam' moment. With all this recent popularity, the business brought on some extra help, hiring a 'temporary spokesperson' with experience in Coldplay internet fame: Gwyneth Paltrow. Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post. 'I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300+ employees at Astronomer,' the actress said in the minute-long video posted to social media Friday. 'Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.' The Goop chief executive happens to be the ex-wife of Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin and co-author of the original 'break-the-internet' breakup statement when the pair announced their 'conscious uncoupling' in 2014. If you're searching for answers to the company's real frequently-asked questions, you won't find them in the tongue-in-cheek clip. The questions 'OMG! What the actual f' and 'How is your social media team holding' get comically cut off by Paltrow as she explained the much less juicy details of Astronomer's business. 'We've been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,' Paltrow said. Astronomer's chief executive Andy Byron and human resources chief Kristin Cabot both resigned after they were filmed cuddling at a Coldplay concert in Boston earlier this month. They appeared on the arena video board in a 'kiss cam' segment before looking uncomfortable, with Cabot turning around and Byron ducking out of sight as Martin quipped from the stage that the two might be having an affair. Mark Borkowski, a British public relations and crisis consultant, described using Paltrow to front a video parodying the incident as 'utter genius' that shows the company has a sense of humor. 'It's a savvy use of media to create a viral moment,' he told The Washington Post in a phone interview Saturday. 'In a way you're laughing with everybody else.' Astronomer choosing Paltrow will not go unnoticed, Borkowski said. 'Astronomer is a meme now. Owning the ridiculous nature of how it became a meme is far better than apologizing for it.' A representative for Paltrow didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. As for how he advises clients caught in such situations, Borkowski said acting in a dignified way and 'using as few words as possible' is always the best approach. Paltrow's cameo is reminiscent of the scared Peloton wife discourse from 2019. After actress Monica Ruiz's worry-stricken expression in a Peloton holiday commercial became the butt of internet jokes, she laughed it off, later using her horrified face for an Aviation Gin ad. 'We will now be returning to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers,' Paltrow closed out the ad. 'Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.' - - - Tatum Hunter contributed to this report. Related Content Hulk Hogan was a well-known Trump supporter. Their ties go back 40 years. Bobby Lee blames 'woke' backlash for And Just Like That... axing

Bobby Lee has shared why he thinks he was cut from And Just Like That.... "Some of the woke elements of the show, they got rid of, and I think I was a part of that," the comedian and podcaster told Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Lee starred as Jackie Nee, Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) podcast co-host, on the first and second seasons of the Sex and the City continuation series, but is notably absent from the third season. "I think Sara (Ramirez) didn't come back, and some other people," Lee said. "They tried to put minorities in, and, I don't know. I never saw the show." Ramirez departed the show in season 2 as Che Diaz, the love interest of Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon). Karen Pittman, who played Nya Wallace, Miranda's Columbia Law School professor whom she befriended and later called her roommate, also left the show ahead of season 3. In regards to Lee's departure from the show, his storyline ended naturally, as Carrie no longer hosts the podcast. Lee reflected on his time on And Just Like That... in a positive light. He called Parker "the nicest person I've ever met", and credited her for making him feel "so at ease" on the project. "I like everyone on there. It was fun. I never have bad blood with anybody. You know what I mean?"

The joke goes ‘who's buried in Grant's Tomb?' but NYers can't agree on the punchline

Don't take a good joke for Grant-ed. Most people have heard the joke 'who's buried in Grant's Tomb?' but New Yorkers and tourists at the famous Morningside Heights landmark this week couldn't agree what the punchline is. The obvious answer is the so-obvious-it-can't-be-correct 'Grant' as in Civil War general and former US President Ulysses S. Grant. But maybe it's also 'Grant and his wife' — or no one at all. Robert Miller 8 A group about to go on a tour of Grant's Tomb, located in Riverside Park, Upper West Side. Robert Miller 'Actually, he's entombed. He's not buried!' said S.F., who was visiting the tomb on the Upper West Side on July 23, the 140th anniversary of Grant's death. Advertisement 'It's Grant and his wife, Julia,' S.F. added. 'I don't know whether his dog is in there or not.' 'Definitely not Grant, but somebody,' joked Abdullah Hashimi, 19, who was visiting the tomb from nearby Columbia University on July 23, the 140th anniversary of Grant's death. 'Just because it's Grant Tomb, it could be anybody!' 8 'Definitely not Grant, but somebody,' joked Abdullah Hashimi, 19, who was visiting the tomb from nearby Columbia University on the 140th anniversary of Grant's death. 'Just because it's Grant Tomb, it could be anybody!' Robert Miller Lifelong New Yorker Pat Sopak, 75, said the punchline has changed over the years — to maximize it's punch. Advertisement 'It's too weird. It's obvious,' Sopak said. 'It's constantly updating.' Grant was a Republican from Ohio, but lived in the Big Apple for several years. The former Union Army hero's 1885 funeral was reportedly attended by 1.5 million at a time when the city's entire population was 2 million. 8 'It's too weird. Robert Miller But the 150-foot-tall monument in Riverside Park didn't open until April 27, 1897, after a fundraising effort by the Grand Monument Association. Today it attracts about 110,000 visitors per year and is run by the National Parks Service. Park Ranger Miranda Allen said she's asked about 'who's buried in Grant's tomb' nearly everyday. She attributed its origins to 'You Bet Your Life,' the Groucho Marx-hosted quiz show from the 1950s and said it was written as an easy question for Marx's contestants who might need redemption. 8 Park Ranger Miranda Allen said she's asked about the joke nearly everyday. Robert Miller 8 'In order to be buried, you have to be in the ground,' Allen said. 'Since the remains are in sarcophagi, so they're actually above ground. So no one is buried in Grant's Tomb,' she said, joking the correct answer is 'no one.' Robert Miller 'However, they didn't consider the semantics of the question when they wrote it. So, when you're asked 'who's buried in Grant's Tomb?' it's easy to assume, well, it's Grant. Sometimes we'll get 'well, actually it's Grant and his wife.'' Advertisement Allen said the joke's on them though — the correct answer really is 'no one.' 'Because in order to be buried, you have to be in the ground.' Allen said. 'And given that this is a mausoleum, since the remains are in sarcophagi, so they're actually above ground. So no one is buried in Grant's Tomb.'
