SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Thursday, Utah! Our Thursday afternoon will feature more sunshine and hot temperatures. A southwesterly breeze will help to keep some dust and haze in the air. Highs will warm into the mid-90s for the Wasatch Front to 102° for St. George.
A stronger ridge of high pressure will settle overhead Friday, leading to drier and hotter conditions just in time for our Father's Day weekend. High temps will be in the mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front. High temps across southern Utah will warm between 100°-105°.
The warm temperatures, low humidity levels, dry vegetation, and gusty southwest winds will lead to a critical fire danger developing across portions of central and southern Utah. Any outdoor burning will be highly discouraged.
A weak trough may arrive early next week, knocking a few degrees off daytime highs, but overall expect well-above average temperatures and mainly dry conditions to stick around through most of next week.

West Palm police warn of traffic delays, extreme heat ahead of 'No Kings' march to Mar-a-Lago
WEST PALM BEACH — Police are urging the public to prepare for traffic delays and extreme heat on June 14, as large-scale demonstrations are expected to draw crowds to downtown West Palm Beach. The demonstrations are part of a nationwide movement dubbed 'No Kings National Day of Defiance.' Meant to protest President Donald Trump's administration, these rallies coincide with both his 79th birthday and the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary military parade in Washington, D.C. Locally, the protest will include a caravan and march to Mar-a-Lago, and a rally at Meyer Amphitheater in West Palm Beach. The West Palm Beach Police Department issued an advisory June 13 urging drivers to steer clear of downtown, warning of heavier-than-normal traffic throughout the area. 'Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead,' the department said. 'Several roadways may be impacted as the events unfold.' Forecasters also predict temperatures will climb into the mid-to-high 90s, raising the risk of heat exhaustion for those outside. The police department's spokesperson, Rachel Leitão, encouraged demonstrators and attendees to drink water, wear light-colored, breathable clothing, limit strenuous activity, apply sunscreen and seek shade regularly. The police department said it supports the right to peaceful assembly and will be present to ensure public safety. 'We are committed to the safety of all participants and members of the public,' Leitão said. 'Please stay aware of your surroundings and take care in the heat.' Dangerous heat for some in New Mexico with few storms
Less-muggy conditions are present in wake of yesterday's fewer thunderstorms that formed in Eastern New Mexico with rain-free conditions now mostly across New Mexico with somewhat-gusty easterly gap winds for a few areas. Above-freezing temperatures were even confined to most of the higher peaks of the Northern Mountains with valley floor locations starting off in the upper 40s, while elsewhere was mostly starting off in the upper 50s, 60s, and lower 70s. Somewhat-persistent upper-level westerly winds with less moisture, along with a slight nudge in the jet stream to the north with a high pressure system moving in overhead from the southwest, will combine with the daytime heating, as well as with the lingering low-level moisture to the east, to produce a few storms in the mountains to East New Mexico today. Elsewhere, some clouds will pass on through with temperatures warming up well into the high 80s, 90s, and above 100 degrees for most central to southern areas, while the lingering muggy conditions will lead to northern areas reaching the 70s to the 80s. Drier air aloft is ahead, but the pendulum swing pattern of muggy mornings with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will continue ahead. Temperatures will continue to rise ahead with much clearer skies through this Father's Day weekend into early next week.
