Genelia Deshmukh questions industry for not offering her roles like Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par: 'They think I am married so...'
Genelia D'Souza is making a comeback in 'Sitaare Zameen Par' alongside Aamir Khan. She calls this role meaningful. The film releases on June 20. Genelia discusses challenges post-marriage and industry biases. Aamir Khan recognized her potential and she auditioned for the role. Director RS Prasanna praises her popularity and talent across various regional industries. Genelia D'Souza is all set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, where she stars opposite Aamir Khan in a role she calls one of the most meaningful of her career. As the film gears up for its June 20 release, Genelia opened up about the challenges of finding substantial roles post-marriage, her thoughts on industry bias, and why she still had no hesitation auditioning—three times—for a character she truly believed in. Speaking to Filmymantra Media, the actress recalled how people reacted with excitement when they learned she was part of Sitaare Zameen Par, calling her lucky to be working with Aamir Khan. She credited Aamir for recognising her potential and shared that, while he did ask her to audition, she had no hesitation. Genelia added that other filmmakers could also take that approach and consider her for substantial roles. She went on to say that industry norms often influence casting decisions, suggesting that her marital status may lead some to assume she doesn't need such roles. Genelia emphasized that while filmmaking has evolved, the mindset around casting still needs to catch up. She believes it's crucial to cast actors who genuinely fit the character's age and life stage, as younger performers may miss the subtle nuances. She expressed hope that opportunities become more inclusive and reflective of real-life diversity. Interestingly, Genelia's association with Aamir Khan Productions goes back to 2008, when she starred opposite Imran Khan in his debut film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, a cult romantic comedy directed by Abbas Tyrewala. Reflecting on the casting in a recent interview with SCREEN, Aamir Khan joked, 'That was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kaafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (Now even Imran is almost my age),' adding a touch of humour to the reunion. Aamir acknowledged that the age difference between him and Genelia did cross his mind, but explained that in Sitaare Zameen Par, both characters are portrayed as being in their early 40s. He pointed out that despite being 60, advancements in VFX help bridge that gap on screen. Aamir also revealed that casting Genelia was the idea of director RS Prasanna . In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, director RS Prasanna shared that casting Genelia D'Souza was an easy choice, especially given her immense popularity in the South, where he hails from. He praised her vibrant energy and acting talent, adding that she's beloved across regional industries. 'She's done it all—Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and now even Marathi,' Prasanna noted, calling it a joy to work with her. Meanwhile, Genelia D'Souza began her acting career with the Bollywood film Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. That same year, she made her Tamil debut with Boys, followed by her first Telugu film Satyam in 2004. She ventured into Kannada cinema with Satya My Love in 2008 and made her Malayalam debut with Urumi in 2011. In 2022, she made her full-fledged entry into Marathi cinema with Ved, directed by her husband Riteish Deshmukh .

This actress became star at 16, did 40 films, worked with Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Vijay, suffered paralysis, died by suicide after failed love affair with…; She was…
No matter how big someone becomes, life isn't always kind, and the life of an actress is a prime example. These actresses who dazzle on screen often face darkness in their personal lives. One such case is that of Tamil actress Viji, whose tragic step after a betrayal in love shook the entire film industry. Viji, known for the film Kozhi Koovuthu, made her debut alongside Prabhu and Silk Smitha in the movie directed by Gangai Amaran. She also paired with Saresh in the song Edho Moham Edho Dhagam , which became a superhit. Following this, she went on to work with top stars like Prabhu, Rajinikanth, and Mohanlal in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. After working in more than 40 films, the heroine roles reduced, so she started doing character roles. After this, she also worked on songs. For example, she danced with Prabhu Deva in the song 'Lalakku Dol Dappi Ma' in Sarathkumar's film 'Suriyan' and with Murali in the song ' Machinichi Vara Neram ' in Vijay's film 'Poove Unakkaga'. During the shooting of this song, Viji experienced back pain and encountered complications during treatment. A mistake during her back surgery left her hands and legs paralysed, confining her to a wheelchair. Although she later won a case against the hospital and her condition improved after multiple operations, film offers stopped coming her way. Moved by her situation, Vijayakanth gave her a role in Simmasanam, which turned out to be her last film. Viji's film career began at the age of 16, and her life came to a tragic end at just 34. According to a report by Tamil News 18, Viji committed suicide in her Chennai home in 2000. The news shook the Tamil film industry. Everyone thought that the cause of his death was his health, but the things written in his suicide note revealed the real reason. Her suicide note blamed a failed love affair with director A R Ramesh, who was already married. The report suggested Ramesh promised to marry her but declined later, and that three days before her death, Ramesh met Viji at a function and abused her. Viji had also left evidence of accepting the director's love in her death note. Due to this, the police arrested the director and his wife and filed a case. However, after a few years, they were acquitted. Also, in her last note, she had requested the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi not to conduct post-mortem on her body after her death.
