One such case is that of Tamil actress Viji, whose tragic step after a betrayal in love shook the entire film industry. Viji, known for the film Kozhi Koovuthu, made her debut alongside Prabhu and Silk Smitha in the movie directed by Gangai Amaran. She also paired with Saresh in the song Edho Moham Edho Dhagam , which became a superhit. Following this, she went on to work with top stars like Prabhu, Rajinikanth, and Mohanlal in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films.
After working in more than 40 films, the heroine roles reduced, so she started doing character roles. After this, she also worked on songs. For example, she danced with Prabhu Deva in the song 'Lalakku Dol Dappi Ma' in Sarathkumar's film 'Suriyan' and with Murali in the song ' Machinichi Vara Neram ' in Vijay's film 'Poove Unakkaga'.
During the shooting of this song, Viji experienced back pain and encountered complications during treatment. A mistake during her back surgery left her hands and legs paralysed, confining her to a wheelchair. Although she later won a case against the hospital and her condition improved after multiple operations, film offers stopped coming her way. Moved by her situation, Vijayakanth gave her a role in Simmasanam, which turned out to be her last film. Viji's film career began at the age of 16, and her life came to a tragic end at just 34.
According to a report by Tamil News 18, Viji committed suicide in her Chennai home in 2000. The news shook the Tamil film industry. Everyone thought that the cause of his death was his health, but the things written in his suicide note revealed the real reason. Her suicide note blamed a failed love affair with director A R Ramesh, who was already married. The report suggested Ramesh promised to marry her but declined later, and that three days before her death, Ramesh met Viji at a function and abused her.
Viji had also left evidence of accepting the director's love in her death note. Due to this, the police arrested the director and his wife and filed a case. However, after a few years, they were acquitted.
Also, in her last note, she had requested the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi not to conduct post-mortem on her body after her death.

Adah Sharma: I didn't even know I was allowed to dream this big as an outsider. I definitely couldn't have imagined being where I am today. Adah Sharma: Traumatic, exhausting, and at the same time, very fulfilling. We had no idea it would become so big. Thanks to the audience. Even a year later, people come up to me and talk about specific scenes with so much emotion. It's nice to know we could transport them into the story. Their insights and understanding of scenes and my performance are so touching. Adah Sharma: I thought everyone would stand against terrorism, and rape, and support a film about girls being forced into it. I understand now why some people had a problem with it and called it a lie. A lot of people react in certain ways because of their political affiliations. For me, the film is about the plight of girls being forced to become suicide bombers. The backlash had started 10 days before the release. But once people watched the film, the love we received drowned out the disapproval from those who didn't even watch it. Adah Sharma: Not really. If criticism comes from people who haven't even watched the film and are just reacting politically, I don't take it seriously. I'm grateful I live in a country where women like me are free to act, travel, dress how we like, and where even my critics are allowed to openly make very personalised hate remarks against me publicly, and others are allowed to say they love the film. Freedom of thought and speech is very important for me. Our film did get banned, though, in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Adah Sharma: There are several projects where I feel I have gotten my due. My debut in 1920 – I believe it was the role of a lifetime! To get to do all those crazy things in my very first film. The Kerala Story, Bastar, Sunflower season 2, and my latest release, Reeta Sanyal, where I got to play 10 characters in one show. I think I'm very fortunate. In Telugu as well, from my debut Heart Attack, which I still get so much love for. That said, I also think nepotism is doing very well and doesn't need me to promote it. Adah Sharma: Being misquoted for clickbait headlines, and answering those 'what would you steal from someone's closet' and 'who would you like to be marooned on an island with?' questions. They give me severe anxiety. I start thinking, how long will we be on the island? What's the sleeping situation? Do we bathe in the ocean? What do we do for food? Am I responsible for the other humans' safety since I got them there? The list goes on. Adah Sharma: Just like the X-ray machine can see the bones, I can read people's minds. Very, very clearly. Adah Sharma: I used to practice playing a dead bird when we shot 1920. There is a scene where I eat a raccoon and then run and lie down like a dead bird. Birds, when they die, harden up. However, the water tank burst and released thousands of litres of water across the shooting floor. The accident caused a flood-like situation on sets and caused damage to the equipment. Reportedly, an assistant cinematographer and several other crew members have also been injured in the incident. The injured crew members were taken to the hospital, where they are currently being treated. While it remains unclear if Ram Charan was also on the set at the time of the accident, the shoot of the film has been put on hold for now. Thug Life box office collection day 7: What was supposed to be a dream project, an attempt at creating something 'out of the box' and 'much-anticipated collaboration' has turned into a disaster. Thug Life is losing shows and witnessing drop in collection with each passing day. On day seven, the Kamal Hassan-Mani Ratnam film earned just Rs 1.25 crore India nett, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The collection is far less than Kamal Haasan's previous release, Indian 2 (another flop). Varun Dhawan's Baby John and Salman Khan's Sikandar, which tanked at the box office as well, both performed better on day seven, earning Rs 2.25 crore and Rs 4 crore, respectively. But to be fair to Kamal Haasan, these films had higher show count. On day 7, Kamal Haasan's film witnessed an overall occupancy of 15.57% in the Tamil language with 1132 shows across the country. The shows which were already reduced from 2503 to 1290. A further 158 shows were taken away on its seventh day. The movie met with a similar fate in the Hindi and Telugu language where the occupancy was 4.38% and 13.98%, respectively. Shows in Hindi are reduced to 212 from 218 and 567 from 581 in the Telugu language. While Vikram and Kalki 2898 AD were blockbusters at the box office, his films Indian 2 and now Thug Life have been a disappointment. Comparatively, Indian 2 had a better seven-day collection, which was Rs 81.9 crore India nett. Meanwhile, Thug Life's seven day collection stands at Rs 42.25 crore. This is also a career low for Mani Ratnam after hits like the Ponniyin Selvan franchise (2022-2023), Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018), and O Kadhal Kanmani (2015) in the past decade. Kamal Haasan's film released across the world sans Karnataka on June 5. His controversial remark on Kannada language resulted in the ban of the film from the state. However, with the film's current performance it would have hardly added to the overall collections. Apart from Kamal Haasan, the film also stars actors Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR in the lead role.
