Iowa women's basketball set to compete in 2025 WBCA Showcase
According to Kyle Huesmann of Hawkeye Report, Davidson, Miami, and Baylor are three of the other programs that will join Iowa in the event.

This is the second year of the event, which contained eight programs in 2024 during its inaugural running. Those eight teams involved in last year's showcase were Georgia, Jacksonville, Louisville, Marshall, Mississippi State, South Florida, Tulsa, and Penn State.
Last season, the Hawkeyes participated in numerous early-season nonconference events, such as the Ally Tipoff against Virginia Tech, the Cancun Challenge against Rhode Island and TCU and the Women's Champions Classic against Tennessee.
While only trace amounts of the Hawkeyes' 2025-26 nonconference schedule have been revealed, the WBCA Showdown adds to the program's calendar that includes a Dec. 10 date at Iowa State, a Dec. 20 showdown against defending national champion UConn in the Champions Classic and contests at Northern Iowa and versus Drake.

As head coach Jan Jensen looks to build off the successes of her first season at the helm, the Hawkeyes will certainly be prepared to showcase their skill against whoever they match up against.

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray explains interception against Chiefs in preseason opener
The Arizona Cardinals opened their preseason schedule on Saturday with a 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium. They rallied back from a 14-3 second-quarter deficit. The starting offense played just over a quarter, playing two possessions and scoring three points. Quarterback Kyler Murray both looked good in his limited time on the field, but he also threw a critical interception in the red zone of the Cardinals' first possession. Murray explained what happened after the game. Essentially, he underthrew the ball. 'I just didn't get enough on it," he said postgame. "That's something that in practice, I'm never really rolling out full speed as if somebody's actually going to tackle me. It's kind of weird to explain. I've just got to get more on it. I'm glad it happened though, because I would hate for that to be New Orleans, and it means something.' Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks also baited the throw. Hicks made it look like he was coming back down to cover Trey McBride, who was closer to the line of scrimmage and at the sideline, leading Murray to believe that he could just drop the throw in over the top to get to Marvin Harrison Jr. Murray, who hadn't played in the preseason since 2021, was happy to get full-speed reps and have to make throws against players who are allowed to hit and tackle him. Even in full-speed practices, it isn't the same for Murray, as defenders are not allowed to hit the quarterback or tackle players to the ground. "That's something that you can't replicate in practice, moving around at the speed that you're moving at, going left to right lateral, having guys move and bodies moving," he said. We don't know yet whether or not Murray will get anymore preseason action. Starters traditionally do not play in the final game, and the Cardinals will have a joint practice this coming week ahead of their preseason game against the Denver Broncos. The last two years, following joint practices, the Cardinals' starters have not played. While no one wants to see Murray turn the ball over, the offense ran well. He completed all his other passes, getting the ball to five different pass catchers. They moved the ball. They just didn't finish their drives. If that is all Murray does in the preseason, it should give some good momentum toward the regular season. Judd scores in second-half stoppage time to lift Earthquakes over Whitecaps 2-1
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Preston Judd scored in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time to rally the San Jose Earthquakes to 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night. Judd subbed in for Josef Martínez in the 81st minute and used assists from defenders DeJuan Jones and Jamar Ricketts to score for the fourth time this season. Jones' helper was his career-high fifth after notching three through his first 157 appearances. Ricketts collected his third for San Jose (8-10-8) in his first full season in the league. Judd's goal came after Brian White scored in the 88th minute to pull Vancouver (13-6-6) even at 1-1 after the Whitecaps played most of the Major League Soccer match short-handed. Defender Édier Ocampo was forced to exit in the 27th minute after receiving two yellow cards in a span of eight minutes. Defender Tristan Blackmon notched his first assist this season and his second in 169 career appearances on White's 12th goal. Martínez scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute to give San Jose a 1-0 lead. The PK was awarded after Vitor Costa was fouled by Blackmon. It was the 11th goal this season for Martínez and the 127th of his career. Martínez needs six more goals to tie Jaime Moreno for fifth place all time. Daniel De Sousa Britto finished with two saves for San Jose. Yohei Takaoka saved three shots for Vancouver, including the only one in a scoreless first half. The victory vaults the Earthquakes into eighth place in the Western Conference in its first season under coach Bruce Arena. The top nine teams advance to the post-season.
