Ohio State basketball finalizing home-and-home deal with ACC opponent
The college basketball schedule is nothing like the college football schedule. We often know opponents for Ohio State football years in advance and then just fill in the blanks with the Big Ten schedule. For OSU hoops however, we often get the full details an opponents for its schedule a few months prior to the start of the campaign.
On that note, we're starting to hear some of the 2025-2026 schedule take shape. Earlier this week, the CBS Sports Classic announced that the Buckeyes will play against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Atlanta, Georgia for this year's event, and now we have some further news of another opponent.
According to multiple reports, Ohio State and Notre Dame are finalizing a home-and-home deal in which the Fighting Irish will come to Columbus this year, with OSU making a return trip next season to South Bend.
The Irish aren't nearly the power in football and it won't draw near the same interest as the two matching up on the gridiron, but it's still a quality, non-mid-major opponent that can get the blood boiling and boost a potential NCAA resume. OSU holds a 9-4 all-time record against Notre Dame including a win in the last matchup of the two in 2020 when Ohio State won on the road 90-85.
The Fighting Irish didn't have the best season last year, finishing just 15-18, and will be looking for a bounce-back season this winter. If that sounds familiar, it's the same type of year the Buckeyes are looking for as well.

Why Notre Dame football is still mulling its starting quarterback decision after 15 practices
SOUTH BEND — The Great Notre Dame football quarterback derby rages on. Despite rampant speculation on message boards and beyond, neither Kenny Minchey nor CJ Carr was named the starting quarterback for the Aug. 31 season opener at Miami. 'We're still in a competition,' fourth-year Irish coach Marcus Freeman said after Sunday's jersey scrimmage. 'We have to make a decision here soon. I don't know when we'll make it. I don' t want to put a timeline on it. They've both been playing really well.' First-team practice repetitions were split evenly once again for the top two quarterbacks in Sunday's closed scrimmage, which went about 100 plays and allowed live contact for only portions of the outing at Notre Dame Stadium. Decision-making remains a key focus in the battle between two players with a three combined career passing attempts at the college level. Captain's choice: Why selection 'would be a dream' for Notre Dame football leaders 'Every day we've done some type of two-minute situation since camp (opened on July 31),' Freeman said. 'Practice 15 we're still doing it. And yes, part of it is high pressure, but also it's them understanding some of those critical details of the last minutes of a half, last minutes of a game and some of the decisions you have to make.' Long considered the heir apparent since headlining Notre Dame's 2024 recruiting class, Carr played a handful of meaningless snaps at the end of last year's Week 3 blowout at Purdue. Carr's strong showing in the Blue-Gold Game in April, combined with the subsequent transfer to Syracuse of fourth-year junior Steve Angeli, led many pundits to believe Carr had the 2025 job locked up. Carr's three-interception showing on July 31 in the opening practice of training camp reopened what had been a fairly one-sided public debate over who should succeed Riley Leonard, now in his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts. A late addition to the 2023 recruiting class after de-committing from Pittsburgh, Minchey won over former Irish offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to earn the bid. This is Minchey's third season of working with quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli; offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock took the reins in early 2024. 'Kenny can be reserved but the more you get to know Kenny, he's a competitive individual,' Freeman said. 'He has a different style of competitiveness. He's confident in his abilities. But I also like that he's even keeled a lot of times too. '(Just) because you see an even-keeled person, it doesn't mean they're not a competitive individual. Those are things that I think attracted us to him other than his physical skillset and the things that he does on film. That personality is unique to Kenny and it's helping him.' Detroit sports radio host outlines 3 goals for Michigan State football this season
One of the biggest sports personalities in the state has outlined his expectations for Michigan State football this year, with a simple question of whether or not they are unreasonable or not. Mike Valenti of 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit provided his expectations and goals for the Spartans this upcoming season, and wants the fans to weigh in on whether or not he's being reasonable. Here are the outlined expectations Valenti provided during a show earlier this week: Seems pretty reasonable to me -- the bigger question is whether or not the Spartans can get that done. Valenti is a Spartans alum and has been known for holding Michigan State to high standards. This list of expectations seems about right, in my opinion, and something I believe they can achieve this fall. In my preseason predictions, I have Michigan State going 7-5 with notable wins over Indiana and Michigan that would qualify as the significant victory Valenti is calling for. I also believe their offense will be "fun again" as he said during his show -- so for me, Michigan State nearly checks all of those boxes in my personal outlook for the season.
