Full-wrapped ads on BMTC buses confuse commuters
'Earlier, it was easy for me to identify the buses. But for over a month, I have been struggling to identify buses and have missed them as the whole bus is wrapped with advertisements,' said Malathi, who works as house-keeper, a regular BMTC commuter.
She also said that earlier it was easy to know where the bus was travelling and when they should be ready to get down. 'But as the regular BMTC buses are pasted with advertisements even on the side panels of the bus, those who travel by standing find it difficult to know if their stop is approaching soon', she added.
Many elders who are sixty years and above and use BMTC regularly, complain that they unable to differentiate the buses from private buses and said it was because of the full wrap advertisements. The bus corporation decided to wrap around 3,000 buses, including the Vayu Vajra buses, with advertisements to increase revenue. Some complain that these full bus advertisements are an eyesore and a visual pollution in the city.
'BMTC buses are all over the city. At every traffic signal, I see the full bus advertisements. While we understand that revenue generation is needed for BMTC, these kinds of full wrap advertisements are an eyesore in Bengaluru, a city with international repute. They can still earn revenue through advertisements, but not this way,' suggests Harish Kumar, a bank employee.
'Advertisements are one of the major sources of non-ticket revenue to BMTC. While we were permitting advertisements on the back panel of the buses, the full wrap adverts are new and fetch more revenue,' said a BMTC official. He added that other bus corporations in India, too, have opted for full wrap advertisements.
'Advertisements on the side panels of the buses are 'see-through', while the rest of it is made of vinyl. The main condition laid down is that these advertisements should not in any way block the bus signages, the front and back lights, depot numbers, vehicle registration number and others', he said.

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced new metro feeder services to enhance last-mile connectivity for passengers using the recently opened Yellow Line. The new services, operational from Tuesday, will connect six metro stations — Hosur Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra — through four routes, operated by 12 buses making 96 trips daily. Puram railway station and BTM Layout bus stand, and have since grown to 45 routes and 214 schedules, carrying over 1.2 lakh passengers daily,' Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said after the launch of the feeder services. In Electronics City area alone, BMTC runs 3,000 trips on 100 routes, catering to 14,000 passengers per day. 'The corporation has also introduced QR code-based information systems at metro bus stops and inside trains, enabling commuters to access feeder bus schedules, live tracking, and other travel details on their phones,' Mr. Reddy added. Commuters have also welcomed the new feeder services. Mukund K. from the Save Sarjapura Association said: 'The recent addition of MF-22 and MF-22A routes is a huge boost to connectivity between the Hosur Road (Yellow) metro line and sections of Sarjapur Road. While this is a good start, the number of buses must be gradually increased to improve adoption.' 'We have also conveyed to the Transport Minister that the Dommasandra area of Sarjapur is experiencing extremely high growth due to the presence of the largest school district, along with its connectivity to Whitefield via SH-35 and to Electronics City via SH-168. The multi-utility of our resources is important,' Ramachandran Last-Mile Cell is partnering with companies such as Honda and Sun Mobility to set up EV charging stations along the route. PM Modi to visit Bengaluru on August 10; Central Bengaluru and Electronic City to have traffic restrictions, diversions
During his visit to Bengaluru on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Bengaluru to Belagavi Vande Bharat train at KSR railway station in the city at around 11 am. He will also virtually flag off Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune Vande Bharat trains. Thereafter, he will inaugurate the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro and undertake a metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to the Electronic City metro station. The Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 project (RV Road to Bommasandra) spans over 19 km with 16 stations and was built at a cost of Rs 7,160 crore. With the opening of this yellow line, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will increase to over 96 km. At around 1 pm, the prime minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several urban connectivity projects in Bengaluru. He will also address a public function. PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project worth over Rs 15,610 crore. The total route length of the project will be more than 44 km with 31 elevated stations. In view of PM Modi's visit, traffic restrictions will be enforced on the following roads between 9 am and 1 pm on Sunday.
