Yankees Send 3-Word Message After Exciting News Before Mets Game
The Subway Series has always been a centerpiece of New York sports lore, but it got extra flavor after Juan Soto left the New York Yankees for the New York Mets this past offseason. The four-time All-Star rejected the Yankees' 16-year, $750 million contract offer and signed with the Mets on a record-breaking $15-year, $765 million deal.
The Yankees acquired Soto from the San Diego Padres in December 2023 with just one year left on his rookie deal. The five-time Silver Slugger formed a dynamic duo with Aaron Judge, as the two combined for 99 homers and 253 RBI. The latter star struggled in the postseason, but Soto and Giancarlo Stanton combined for 11 homers and 25 RBI. The team made the World Series for the first time since 2009, but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

Friday will mark Soto's first return to Yankee Stadium since leaving the "Bronx Bombers." However, there is another subplot to the contest.

The Yankees reinstated relief pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga from the 15-day IL and posted a message about it on their social media.
"Welcome back, Loáisiga," they said.
Loáisiga only pitched four innings last season before tearing the UCL in his right elbow. Additionally, the right-hander only pitched 17 games the year before due to a bone spur in the same elbow.
Loáisiga has been in the Yankees organization since 2016 and made his MLB debut in '18. The 30-year-old owns a career 19-11 record with a 3.44 ERA, 36 holds, and seven saves out of 16 opportunities.

Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot tears ACL, will miss rest of 2025 season
Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season after suffering a torn ACL in her right knee during Chicago's eventual 27-point loss to the Indiana Fever, the team announced Sunday. Vandersloot sustained the injury at the 5:29 mark of the first quarter of Saturday night's loss to Indiana while driving to the basket. Teammates gathered around her on the court as she lay on the floor in pain, and Vandersloot was eventually carried to the locker room before quickly being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Vandersloot started the first seven games of Chicago's season, averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 assists. Her injury will likely thrust Van Lith, the No. 11 pick in April's draft, into the Sky's starting lineup. Van Lith replaced Vandersloot after the injury occurred and played a career-high 26 minutes in Saturday's loss, which was the first WNBA game at the United Center. The Sky will also likely lean more on guards Ariel Atkins and Rachel Banham as they look to proceed and draw the most out of their developing frontcourt of Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese. Their first test without Vandersloot comes Tuesday, against her former team, as the Sky travel to Brooklyn to play the Liberty.
