Police searching for five after robbery at Metlife Mall
The incident happened at the Sportscene store on the corner of Samantha Way and Kabega Road at about 11am.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the investigation was being conducted by the provincial serious and violent crimes unit in Gqeberha.
Janse van Rensburg said that, according to preliminary information, the store manager had been with two shop assistants at the time of the incident.
'One female suspect entered the shop, followed by two male suspects.
'One of the men threatened the manager and his assistants with a firearm,' Janse van Rensburg said.
One of the men and the female accomplice had started taking items of clothing from the rails and placing them into bags.
'Two more suspects entered the shop and also took clothing and walked out of the shop.
'The five suspects fled in a white Kia Picanto.'
Janse van Rensburg urged anyone with information that could assist the police in their investigation to contact detective Lieutenant-Colonel Mondi Sitole on 082-457-2812, Crime Stop on 08600 1011, or the nearest police station.

Police are investigating a double murder at an informal settlement in Despatch after two men were shot dead during the early hours of Thursday. According to reports, Despatch police received a complaint of a shooting in Dukubana Street, Kingstown, at about 1.05am. One dead, two injured after e-hailing vehicles set on fire in Maponya Mall
One person died and two others were injured after e-hailing vehicles were attacked at Maponya Mall in Soweto on Wednesday evening, police confirmed. Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said an e-hailing driver was shot and his vehicle torched while another driver and a passer-by were wounded. 'According to information at hand, an e-hailing vehicle was seen stopping at the entrance when about four men approached the driver and shot at him before torching the vehicle,' Nevhuhulwi said. 'Another vehicle which was nearby was shot at. The driver managed to flee and his vehicle was also torched. It was later discovered that the driver and a passer-by sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital.' Nevhuhulwi said the suspects are unknown and the motive behind the incident is unclear. A case of murder, attempted murder and arson has been opened for further investigation. 'The SA Police Service and Johannesburg Metro Police are on the scene to monitor the situation which is suspected to be taxi violence-related.' Gauteng transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela described the attack as 'senseless and unacceptable'. 'No grievance or commercial dispute justifies the taking of a life or putting innocent people at risk. Violence of this nature undermines public safety, tarnishes the image of our transport sector, and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.' Wife beater to serve life sentence after fatal attack
A 41-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man has been sentenced to life behind bars for strangling his wife to death after accusing her of cheating. The National Prosecuting Authority in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday said the murder occurred in the Jakkalspan area. 'The accused and the 29-year-old deceased lived together as husband and wife since the accused had paid a portion of lobola to her family. They had four children together. 'On the evening of July 11 2024, the accused and his wife were alone at home when a quarrel broke out between them. This is because he suspected her of cheating on him. The quarrel escalated and the accused strangled her to death,' said NPA regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara. The man went to his brother's homestead where he confessed to his sibling. He then handed himself over at the nearest police station. In the Madadeni regional court, prosecutor Zama Zikalala led the testimony from the accused's brother and the police officer who was on duty when the accused confessed to his wife's murder. The postmortem results were also handed in to the court. In aggravation of sentence, Zikalala told the court the accused had a previous conviction for assaulting his wife. The accused was sentenced and the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm. 'The NPA welcomes the successful finalisation of this matter. We remain committed to the fight against the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide. We will continue to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and decisively,' said Ramkisson-Kara.
