The two other American entries had performances to be proud of.
On Tuesday, Andrew Torgashev was the only American male skater to show up for the first of two practices. Jason Brown and Malinin saved their energy for their 10 p.m. practice. Torgashev showed up for both.
'I mean, I'm here to skate, so why not skate?' Torgashev said Tuesday.
On Thursday, the extra practice paid off. Scoring a personal-best short program score of 87.27, the 23-year-old Torgashev found himself in eighth heading into Saturday's free skate. He landed a quadruple toe loop, triple Axel and a triple flip-triple toe loop combination.
'My goal for this competition and any competition is to make the all of those run-throughs, all of that soreness, sweat and tears, all worth it,' said Torgashev. 'This short today was worth it.'
Brown, the crowd favorite,
mesmerized the TD Garden crowd with his 'The Legend of Tarzan' short program. After struggling with equipment issues for much of the season, the seven-time US World team member squeaked out the ending of his triple Axel and popped the second jump of his triple-triple combination into a double. His score of 84.72 left him 12th.

Despite the errors, Brown was excited for the opportunity to skate again on the Garden ice, where he had his breakthrough moment at the 2014 US Championships. As was the case11 years ago, the crowd roared and gave him a standing ovation.
'Here in 2014, it was really the first time in my career that I felt that overwhelming sense of love and support,' said Brown.

Jaylen Brown's father arrested in Las Vegas in parking lot stabbing incident
The father of Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown was arrested in Las Vegas and charged with attempted murder after reportedly stabbing another man in a parking lot. According to TMZ, Quenton Marselles Brown admitted dinging the victim's car with his door when he got out of his Lincoln Navigator. An argument ensued and Brown stabbed the victim in the back and stomach, the website reported. Court documents listed Brown as an inmate in the Clark County Detention Center on attempted murder charges. A person with knowledge of the incident, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it, confirmed that the man arrested is Jaylen Brown's father. The Associated Press requested the police report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department but was told it wasn't immediately available. The Celtics declined to comment. Brown has enjoyed an incredible career in Boston since the Celtics took him third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. He's been an NBA All-Star four times and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2023 when he averaged a career-best 26.6 points per game to go with 6.9 rebounds (also a career-high) and 3.5 assists. Brown and Jayson Tatum finally got over the hump and brought Boston its 18th NBA Championship in 2024, when Brown was named MVP of both the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers and the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics beat the Mavs in five games in the Finals, thanks in large part to Brown's stellar defense on Dallas point guard Luka Doncic. Off the court, Brown has also done a lot for the Boston community, especially after he signed his $304 million max contract with the franchise. There will be a lot on Brown's shoulders during the 2025-26 season, as Tatum will likely be sidelined for the entire season after he ruptured his Achilles in Boston's second-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks in May.

Despite a revamped format that was supposed to benefit Liga MX entrants, American teams dominated their counterparts from south of the border in Wednesday's quarterfinals, creating a Final Four featuring all MLS teams. Messi, who led Inter Miami to the title of the 2023 edition, sat out Wednesday's game against Mexican titans Tigres with an injury, but his former Barcelona running buddy Luis Suárez stepped up by scoring both goals in the GOAT's absence in the 2-1 win. Both Orlando City and the Seattle Sounders needed penalties to book their semifinals spot. Orlando – the sole MLS squad not to host their quarterfinal — outlasted Toluca, winners of Mexico's 2025 Clausura title in May. After a scoreless 90 minutes in Carson, California, longtime Peru national team goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was Orlando's hero in the shootout, stopping two Toluca spot-kicks and then scoring the clinching goal from 12 yards.
