MP Ibrahim Mneimneh tells LBCI: Sectarian politics hinder Lebanon's progress
MP Ibrahim Mneimneh highlighted that, despite its limited resources, the Lebanese state has demonstrated its commitment to overseeing the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the south.
In an interview on LBCI's "Vision 2030" program, Mneimneh emphasized that this effort should be acknowledged as a significant achievement for the Lebanese army and the country's president.
He said, "We accepted the ceasefire agreement without clear terms, which grants Israel an advantage. This type of agreement defines the current situation in the south. If the Israeli army does not withdraw, we fear that the occupation could become a pretext for revisiting past resistance scenarios."
Mneimneh added, "If the government had been more transparent about the ongoing negotiations, perhaps the people of the south would have reconsidered their actions, leading to fewer casualties. Some residents are bypassing the instructions of the Lebanese army, which is responsible for ensuring their safety."
He also pointed out that political traditions and sectarian exclusivity in representation are significant obstacles to the country's progress.

Aoun further condemned Israel's ongoing military campaign on Gaza as 'inhumane' and called on the international community to act. 'What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable. The global community must intervene immediately.' President Aoun also met with his Iraqi counterpart who reiterated the Iraqi support for Lebanon, underlining the bilateral ties in the various domains. The Lebanese President also hailed the roadmap made by the Supreme Iraqi Cleric Imam Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani to consecrate reform, corruption fight and the centrality of the military decision. President Aoun had said upon arrival: 'Today, I accept the invitation of my brother, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, which I was honored to receive following our meeting in Cairo on the sidelines of the extraordinary Arab Summit. My visit to Iraq will be an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, a milestone that confirms the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between Lebanon and Iraq. On this visit, I carry with me deep feelings of appreciation for the Iraqi leadership and the brotherly Iraqi people, in appreciation for the continuous support and assistance they have provided to Lebanon, especially during these difficult times and hardships.' Hezbollah's rocket commander killed in Israeli drone strike in south Lebanon
Israel killed Hezbollah 's Shaqif region commander, Mohammad Ali Jamoul, early Saturday morning at around 5 a.m. in Deir al-Zahrani in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military announced hours later. Jamoul was the commander of Hezbollah 's rocket array in the region, Israeli said. According to to UN Resolution 1701 all militia in Lebanon including Hezbollah and the Palestinians were to disarm and hand over all their arms to the Lebanese Army . Israel was to withdraw all forces from Lebanon but it has kept troops in five areas it deems 'strategic'. The Lebanese Army has deployed in the south and has been dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure.
