Kansas State women's golf ends eight-year postseason drought with NCAA Regional bid
MANHATTAN — The Kansas State women's golf team spent a year stewing over its 2024 postseason snub, but it also served as motivation for the Wildcats.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats' perseverance paid off when they were selected as the No. 5 seed in the 2025 NCAA Lexington Regional. It will be their first team postseason appearance since 2017.

"It just means so much to me," second-year K-State coach Stew Burke said. "They worked so hard. They wanted it."
The Wildcats are now headed to Keene Trace Golf Club in Lexington, Kentucky, May 5-7 as part of a 12-team field. The top five regional teams advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship May 16-21 in Carlsbad, California.
The regional competition will be stiff with No. 1 seed and ACC champion Florida State, No. 2 USC, No. 3 TCU and No. 4 Vanderbilt. But K-State goes into the regional with some momentum.

Kansas State golfer Sophie Bert follows through on a shot during the women's Big 12 Championship this week at Houston Oaks Golf Club in Huckley, Texas.
The Wildcats had a strong final day in the Big 12 Tournament last week to finish fifth as a team, with senior Sophie Bert claiming the individual championship and teammate Carla Bernat tying for second. Bernat also won the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur title earlier this month.
"It's awesome to be a part of the history like that," said Bert, a senior from Deurle, Belgium, who transferred in from East Tennessee State this year. "It's an amazing feeling."
K-State is ranked No. 28 in the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings and currently holds a school-record scoring average of 287.66, nearly three strokes better than a year ago.

While the Wildcats did not qualify as a team last year, Bernat, a senior from Castellon, Spain, made it as an individual and placed third in the Bryan (Texas) Regional, advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Initial FPI rankings place Florida in College Football Playoff picture
Initial FPI rankings place Florida in College Football Playoff picture Florida's return to national prominence in 2025 appears likely, with DJ Lagway leading the offense. ESPN's recent relaunch of the College Football Power Index has the Gators among the top 20 teams in contention for an NCAA Championship. Florida sits at No. 18 on the 2025 College FPI with a 14.3 power index. ESPN projects the Gators to finish the 2025 season with a 6.4-5.6 record and gives UF a 68.2% chance to reach six wins (bowl eligibility). But Florida also plays the toughest schedule in the country, according to ESPN, which means a seven-win season could be enough to sneak into the playoffs. Florida's CFP odds sit at a surprisingly high 14.5%, and 0.7% odds to win the national championship are the 19th best. "FPI is a predictive rating system that estimates each FBS team's strength (in points per game relative to the national average) on offense, defense and special teams, making adjustments for starters lost, recruiting talent and other personnel changes," Paine reminds us. "Those numbers are then plugged into the schedule, and everything is simulated 20,000 times to track each team's odds of winning its conference, making the playoff and advancing through to the national title." FPI projects the SEC to send 4.6 teams to the College Football Playoff this year, with Alabama, Georgia and Texas being the strongest candidates. Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M make up the next tier of SEC teams, with South Carolina and Oklahoma on the outer edge. Florida is behind all of them, but a few key wins could change things. ESPN highlights an Oct. 4 matchup with Texas and the Georgia game on Nov. 1 as the most anticipated games on Florida's schedule, ranking Nos. 6 and 15 on the national schedule. The biggest reason for optimism is Florida being ranked inside the top 20 on both offense and defense. The Gators' 7.0 offensive FPI ranks No. 14 and is the result of a 27-spot jump over the offseason. On defense, a 6.4 rating is good for No. 16 in the country, one spot up from the last update. Kris Moutinho returns at UFC on ESPN 69, gets undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker on short notice
Kris Moutinho returns at UFC on ESPN 69, gets undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker on short notice A fan-favorite scrapper is back in the UFC and gets a tough matchup on short notice. At UFC on ESPN 69, Kris Moutinho gets another shot in the promotion on very short notice, as he will face undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker next weekend. The event takes place on June 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. MMA Junkie confirmed the news with two sources familiar with the matchup. MMA Mania was first to report the news. Moutinho (14-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC) didn't get his hand raised during his first UFC run, but his fighting style made an impression on fans. In his debut at UFC 264, he faced former champion Sean O'Malley in an incredible Fight of the Night. Moutinho was finished in the third round, but made the most of his debut by leaving it all in the octagon. After his exit from the promotion in 2022, he took one boxing fight, and then got back on track with MMA, winning five fights in a row, all by stoppage. Wellmaker (9-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been quick to make an impression with the UFC fanbase for his finishing ability. In his appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, he finished Adam Bramhald by knockout in the first round to earn a UFC contract. In his debut in April, he knocked out Cameron Saaiman in the opening round, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. Wellmaker's sophomore appearance takes place in his home state of Georgia, where he will aim to keep his unblemished record intact. Current UFC on ESPN 69 lineup
