Ford recalls more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs

CNN5 days ago
Ford has issued a recall for more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to a fire hazard.
The compact SUVs are being recalled because a fuel injector may crack and leak and potentially cause a fire, according to the recall notice.
The recall involves Bronco Sports made from 2021 to 2024 and Escapes made from 2020 to 2022 with 1.5-liter engines.
The company does not yet have a permanent fix for the issue, the recall notice added. Letters to notify owners of affected Bronco Sport and Escape will be sent on August 18. In the interim, Ford dealers 'will update the engine control software, free of charge.'
'A cracked fuel injector allows for fuel to leak at a high rate' onto other hot engine components, increasing the risk of fire according to the recall notice.
Ford has already tried to fix the issue a few times, starting in November 2022, the recall notice says. The earlier fixes included new software that would detect a fuel leak and disable the high-pressure fuel pump and lower the engine power, accordingly. But in July 2024, the company bought back a vehicle that caught fire, and noticed it had a cracked fuel injector even though it had received one of the earlier remedies. Fire damage prevented Ford from drawing any definitive conclusions about the start of the fire, however.
Subsequent investigations and discussions with NHTSA led the company to issue a recall.
A second letter will be sent once the final remedy is available. Vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25S76.

Why Is Wall Street So Bearish on Lucid Group? There's 1 Key Reason.

Key Points Electric car stocks have surged due to robotaxi optimism. But severe near-term challenges remain. 10 stocks we like better than Lucid Group › Several electric car stocks got huge boosts in recent weeks over enthusiasm for the promise of robotaxis. Tesla launched its robotaxi pilot program in Austin, Texas, last month. Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID), meanwhile, recently partnered with Uber Technologies to deliver 20,000 self-driving vehicles alongside a $300 million cash infusion. But not every analyst is bullish. CNBC's Jim Cramer, for example, recently questioned the value of Lucid's deal with Uber. This month, seven other major Wall Street analysts reaffirmed their price targets for Lucid stock. Everyone predicts that shares will fall in value over the next 12 months. Why is Wall Street still so bearish? There's one obvious culprit. The near-term reality for EV stocks is frightening Cathie Wood, CEO of Ark Invest, thinks robotaxis will be a $10 trillion industry long term. That has investors excited. Over the next 12 to 24 months, however, most EV makers will be feeling the pain. That's because federal tax credits for EVs are set to expire this September, effectively making a new EV purchase $7,500 more expensive. While the exact impact remains unknown, this shift should sizably lower demand growth. Federal automotive regulatory credits, meanwhile, are also set to lose their value given fines for noncompliance are being eliminated. Lucid has earned more than $200 million through these programs. And while it won't lose access to the entirety of this profit source, given that many state and international programs will remain, the financial impact will be sudden and meaningful. Every EV maker will be affected by these regulatory shifts, including Rivian, Tesla, and Lucid. EV sales in the second quarter of 2025 are already down 6.3% year over year. We could see these declines persist, or even accelerate, given reduced incentives. Lucid's robotaxi opportunity remains lucrative long term. But analysts are rightfully worried about the next year or two when it comes to reduced sales and profit growth. Should you invest $1,000 in Lucid Group right now? Why does the White House want to redesign gas cans? Explaining the situation

The White House says it wants to 'Make Gas Cans Great Again.' Under a plan announced July 24 by President Donald Trump's Environmental Protection Agency, the federal government is encouraging manufacturers to add vents to portable fuel containers, also known as gas cans. It would effectively reverse a 2009-rule by federal environmental officials at the time that required portable gas cans - used for lawnmowers, chainsaws, ATVS and stranded vehicles - to have special vents that stop the vapors from escaping. Proponents of that rule - which was finalized in 2007 - said the vapors that escape contributed to ozone pollution. But the 2009 rule created an online market for pre-ban gas cans among buyers dissatisfied with the new cans. Why does Trump want to redesign gas cans? 'Gas cans used to pour gas,' Trump's head of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, said on X, formerly Twitter. 'Now they just dribble like a child's sippy cup.' But many modern designs are often infuriatingly ineffective at actually filling tanks because the vents work so poorly, critics argue. Instead of stopping vapors from flowing out the complicated spouts and relief valves, the new designs often cause gasoline spills, which some critics say are far worse than a tiny amount of vapor escaping from an older design. Some rules for gas cans will still remain in place Other rules for gas cans have to remain in place under federal law, like making sure they're child-resistant and limiting the risk of flash fires. What happens next for gas cans? The EPA's announcement is non-binding for manufacturers and doesn't prohibit the vents. Rather, the EPA is asking manufacturers to redesign the gas cans to have vents 'to facilitate fast and smooth fuel flow.'
