Chinese singer Zhang Yiyang executed by firing squad for murdering 16-year-old girlfriend
According to Channel News Asia (CNA), which cited a recent investigation report by the Intermediate People's Court of Xianyang City in Shaanxi Province, Zhang is believed to be the first Chinese entertainer to receive the death penalty.
The report stated that Zhang began dating the victim in 2021 but would react violently when she tried to end the relationship, frequently threatening suicide. On February 26, 2022, he allegedly lured her to a forest in Xingping City under the pretext of celebrating his birthday and fatally stabbed her in the neck with a folding knife.
He then reportedly went home and discarded her phone and his clothes in a reservoir. The following day, he attempted suicide in a hotel room, where he was discovered by a staff member and taken to hospital.
Chinese media reports cited in the article said Zhang exhibited paranoid behaviour and a strong desire for control, often using threats of self-harm to stop the girl from breaking up with him.
Public criticism has since grown over the continued release of Zhang's posthumous works, including the film The Sound Of Music (also known as Jieyou Sound Hall), which was released in March this year.

Besut cops solve trio of violent robberies targeting female food delivery riders
JERTIH, July 27 — Police have successfully solved three robbery cases that occurred in several villages in the Besut district after arresting a man in a raid in Kampung Gong Medang here, last Monday. He added, the suspect managed to rob the jewellery belonging to the first and second victims, involving an estimated loss of RM30,000 and RM200 in cash. 'However, the suspect failed to rob the third victim because the victim resisted, causing the victim to suffer injuries to both hands,' he said. Azamuddin said following the arrest, the police also managed to seize two melted gold bars weighing 82.26 grammes believed to belong to two victims, a Honda City and two mobile phones belonging to the suspect. He added that checks found that the suspect had a past criminal record related to robbery and was tested negative for drugs. Coconut milk trader, 64, charged with raping 18-year-old sister-in-law in Bachok
KOTA BHARU, July 27 — A 64-year-old man, who has two wives, was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his 18-year-old sister-in-law in January. According to the New Sunday Times (NST), the accused, whose name was not revealed, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The charge stated that the man was accused of raping his sister-in-law in a room at a residence in Kubang Golok, Bachok, at around 3pm on January 18. He faced charges under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. NST reported that Siti Hajar opposed bail, citing the close family ties between the victim and the accused, as both families live together. However, Ahmad Nurie requested bail on the grounds that his client, a coconut milk trader, is the sole breadwinner and has two wives to support. The court eventually granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety, and set August 25 as the next hearing date.

Suspected snatch thief beaten to death in Cheras

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A man believed to be a foreigner was confirmed dead after being beaten by members of the public while attempting to rob a kindergarten teacher in a residential area near Batu 9, Cheras, on Tuesday. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said his department received an emergency call from the public at 11.10am. 'Personnel from the Batu 9 Cheras police station went to the location and found a man lying injured and unconscious,' Bernama reported him as saying. A medical team that arrived shortly afterwards confirmed the man had died, believed to have been beaten by members of the public. Naazron said police arrested eight men, aged between 22 and 72, in the evening to assist in the investigation. They have been remanded for six days from July 23. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for the death penalty or 30 to 40 years' imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
