‘Upin & Ipin Universe': Iconic animated twins enter gaming world with open-world adventure (VIDEO)
The trailer, launched during the Summer Games Fest 2025, confirmed that the game will take place in the iconic fictional village of Kampung Durian Runtuh, the home of Upin & Ipin.
Upin & Ipin Universe is a collaborative effort between Les' Copaque (the creators of Upin & Ipin), Streamline Studios, and Streamline Media Group.
Streamline Studios, a renowned game developer, has contributed to several AAA titles, including Street Fighter V (2016) and Stellar Blade (2024), which gained significant attention upon its release in April last year. The studio has also developed original games such as Bake 'n Switch, Axon Runners, and Hoopworld.
What to expect from Upin & Ipin Universe
According to its official website, Upin & Ipin Universe is a vibrant open-world adventure that invites players to explore the liveliness of Kampung Durian Runtuh.
From bustling markets to serene rice fields, players will embark on journeys uncovering local legends and helping familiar faces from Kampung Durian Runtuh's community, all while immersing themselves in Malaysia's rich cultural heritage.
The game also features a variety of mini-games, including:
• Fishing: A detailed fishing system where players choose bait, cast lines, and reel in various types of fish.
• Farming: Plant, grow, and harvest crops with unique gameplay twists.
• Critter Catching: Capture critters such as ladybugs and butterflies in a fun, competitive challenge.
• Racing: Race, drift, and compete to see who has the best skills on the track.
• Cooking: Prepare dishes using a rhythm-based mini-game involving chopping, boiling, and frying.
• Spinning Top: Compete in the traditional Malaysian game gasing, where players battle to spin their tops the longest in an arena.
Although a release date has yet to be announced, Upin & Ipin Universe is set to launch on consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Take your pick from 4 types of fish: the best-selling Atlantic Cod (RM44.90 Small, RM56.90 Regular), local-favourite Sea Bass (RM32.90/RM44.90), Ocean Perch (RM25.90/RM32.90) and the classic Dory (RM20.90/RM26.90). A Single Scoop goes for RM9.50 while a Double goes for RM17, with over 15 decadent flavours available daily. Stick to classics like Belgian Chocolate (+RM2), Vanilla Madagascar (+RM2) or Watermelon Lychee, or go cray with unique creations like Lemon Blue Pea Butter Biscuit (+RM2) and Butter Hazelnut with Blondie Coconut Chunks (+RM3). If you're craving teeth-sinkingly thick, Levain-style cookies studded with chocolate and other chunky fixings, this is the place to be. This locally grown bakeshop boasts an ever-growing selection of cookies, with new additions constantly joining a roster of more than 50. All the more reason to pop by each time you're at The Campus Ampang — you might just get first dibs on an exciting new flavour. The best part? These hefty treats are priced at just RM10 a pop. You'll find a plethora of flavours so dreamy, you'll have trouble stopping at one. I mean, how do you resist selections like Hazelnut Praline, Biscoff Double Chocolate, Red Velvet Cream Cheese and Matcha White Chocolate? The classic Sea Salt Chocolate Chip called out to me, and while it didn't have quite as much ooey-gooey chocolate as I'd hoped for, I loved its sugary base and huge chocolate chunks. On the other hand, the crowd-favourite Raspberry White Chocolate took me by pleasant surprise as I enjoyed how the milky white chocolate chips complemented the jammy raspberry filling. This offshoot brings with it a swanky Stefano Ferrara oven, along with an expanded menu of their seriously delicious Neapolitan-style pizzas — all made with the couple's wealth of experience in the craft. For an authentic taste of Italy, try their latest creation: Coast to Coast (RM68), topped with San Marzano tomatoes, semi-dried heirloom tomatoes, creamy stracciatella, basil pesto, basil oil, lemon peel and anchovies for that signature briny kick. Other pies on the menu include can't-go-wrong classics like the Margherita 2.0 (RM44) and the decadent, four cheese- and maple syrup-topped Fourmaggio (RM54). If you're feeling adventurous, go for the spicy Krapow (RM60) or the indulgent 6am Carbonara (RM68) with pecorino romano, beef bacon and egg yolk. Or else, trust the crowd-favourite Shroomami (RM72) and its rich truffle finish to sweep you off your feet. Pasta fans, you're not forgotten. Pizza Duo also dishes out an equally drool-worthy range of pastas, made with Pastificio Liguori noodles cooked to a perfect al dente. Their 17-strong Martabak Manis selection is every dessert lover's kryptonite. For one, the Nutella Keju Kacang (RM30 for Thick, RM18 for Thin) is a sinfully amazing combo of Nutella, cheese and condensed milk that'll have anyone buckling at the knees — I know I would. Other fun picks worth trying include the Kit Kat Green Tea (RM28/RM17), Red Velvet Oreo (RM25/RM15), Milo (RM26/RM16) and virtually every other flavour if you're indecisive like I am. Don't miss out on the savoury Martabak Telor series either. These come stuffed to the brim with bold, savoury fillings like Ayam (RM17), Burger Ramly Sapi (RM25) and even fiery Samyang (RM27) noodles. ‘KPop Demon Hunters' Tops the Billboard 100 With Huntr/x's ‘Golden'
KPop Demon Hunters has swiftly become one of the most delightful and empowering surprises of the year in animation. Now that the Netflix and Sony Animation-certified banger is taking over the world, it only makes sense for its catchy music to reach greater heights. Billboard just announced that 'Golden' from KPop Demon Hunters' hit soundtrack has reached #1 on the charts. The Huntr/x track for a while there was only slightly behind the Saja Boys' 'Your Idol' from the same soundtrack—but just like in the film, the kick-ass trio overcame the bad guys and surpassed them to hit the top of the charts. So yeah, that Honmoon? Sealed. As per Billboard, 'Golden' is the ninth song from the Korean pop genre to dominate the Hot 100. Additionally, it's also the most recent No. 1 performed by a fictional ensemble from a film, the last being Encanto's viral 'We Don't Talk About Bruno,' which enjoyed a five-week stint at the coveted spot in February and March 2022. And what's even cooler: this is the first all-women group to lead the charts since Destiny's Child in 2001. Huntr/x are those girls. Recently Stephen Kirk and Jenna Andrews, a songwriting duo that contributed to KPop Demon Hunters, talked to the Hollywood Reporter about the film's success: 'I certainly had no expectation. I was just like, I love K-pop, this sounds like a fire idea, let's just see where it goes. And then for it to come out, go number one on Netflix, and then [have] the soundtrack explode, it's just such a blessing,' shared Kirk. Andrews added, 'I mean, the truth is, most labels would [not be interested in] soundtracks. Because soundtracks just don't really stream, they don't really go; it's about the movie, and they go away, right?' she said. 'I think with this particular one, because it was K-pop, I think we both thought it probably will do something, but to this extent, no. Definitely not.' You're Gonna Have to Wait Even Longer for ‘Shrek 5'
Time to get out that giant green eraser again: Shrek 5, which already shifted its release date from July 2026 to December 2026, has made another big move. The long-awaited return to the swamp for the ogre—first voiced by Mike Myers back in 2001, with the most recent series entry arriving in 2010—will now happen June 30, 2027. Variety notes that no reason was given for the DreamWorks and Universal production's date change, but big movies needing more time, either for production reasons or to seize the best audience, is not unheard of. As the trade points out, the studio had a giant hit earlier this year with How to Train Your Dragon, which hit theaters in mid-June. The late-June 2027 release date means Shrek 5 will hit theaters less than a week after another oft-delayed animated film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was originally set to come out all the way back in March 2024. As Variety notes, that December 2026 date Shrek 5 has now vacated was quite close to Avengers: Doomsday, so there's cinematic competition no matter what. Not much is known about the plot of Shrek 5, but Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy (who's been talking up his Donkey spin-off movie) will be back, and Zendaya—speaking of Spider-Man—is a high-profile new addition to the cast.
