'Now The Real Fun Starts': Maple Leafs Taking Inward Approach To Preparation Against Senators In Playoffs
Toronto will have two days of preparation before the Battle of Ontario begins on Sunday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs got out of game 82 against the Detroit Red Wings unscathed.
After a late goal by Chris Tanev to tie the game and send it to overtime, Scott Laughton found the back of the net for his second goal as a Maple Leaf. "Now the real fun starts," he said after the game.

It's time to flip the page, from the Atlantic Division-winning regular season to the eagerly awaited Battle of Ontario, which begins on Sunday. It's the first time Toronto and the Ottawa Senators have gone head-to-head in the playoffs since 2004.
Laughton, who hails from Oakville, Ontario, rewatched the last battle between both clubs in the postseason. He'll make his Maple Leafs debut on Sunday, with fans inside and outside Scotiabank Arena buzzing.
"It was amazing," he said, looking back on the past Battle of Ontario playoff series, "so really excited to get going here and be a part of it."
Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Tanev played in the Battle of Alberta with the Calgary Flames in 2022. Three seasons later and two provinces over, the veteran defenseman will relive and be able to eventually re-tell his version of the clash against Ottawa with the Maple Leafs.
'It's Going To Be A Blood Bath': Maple Leafs Are Ready For Senators In First Round Of Playoffs After Clinching Atlantic Division Toronto has clinched the division title for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
"The province was loud and people were vocal, fans on both sides," he said on Thursday, looking back on the Battle of Alberta. "Those are the series that are fun, they're hard. Every little thing matters, and that's what's going to come up here for us."
The Maple Leafs will review film and have an optional practice on Friday before shifting into full gear on Saturday. Toronto lost all three games to Ottawa in the regular season and were outscored 9-3.
The playoffs, though, are a different game. It's something many Senators players haven't been through in their careers. It's the survival of the fittest. Toronto will want to capitalize on an inexperienced Ottawa team, but they'll make it difficult.

But when it comes to preparation for Game 1, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube isn't approaching it any differently than how he's gotten ready for games this season.
"It's about us," he said.
"I get Ottawa's a real good team, and it's going to be a battle, and they do what they do, and we'll look at that stuff, but it really boils down to our team and the commitment and the battle we'll need."

Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News After Leaving Athletics Game
Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News After Leaving Athletics Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays and Athletics are playing the third of four-straight games at Rogers Centre on Saturday. Toronto took the first two games of this series from the A's in convincing fashion. Winning 12-0 on Thursday, the Blue Jays followed that with an 11-7 victory on Friday. Advertisement Looking to make it a third straight win over the Athletics and fourth straight overall, Toronto fell in an early 3-0 hole on Saturday before rallying to score four in the bottom of the first, adding a run in each of the next to innings to lead 6-5 after three. One early contributor was outfielder Daulton Varsho who walked, doubled and scored. Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho (5)© John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images One of MLB's best defensive outfielders, Varsho has contributed offensively this season as well. His .783 OPS is a career-high and he has 20 RBIs in just 24 games. Unfortunately for he and the Blue Jays, an apparent leg injury forced his exit on Saturday. Advertisement Shortly after Varsho was removed the Blue Jays announced an official update, revealing Varsho exited due to left hamstring discomfort. Injuries have cost Varsho time already this season. The 2024 Gold Glove Award winner missed time earlier in the year due to right shoulder surgery recovery, but has returned in good form. Saturday's injury is obviously unrelated to Varsho's shoulder injury, but presents a problem for the Blue Jays if it forces him to miss an extended time. Not only will the team miss his Gold Glove defense, but the left-handed hitter has been among the team's best run producers since returning. Blue Jays Drop Sudden Alek Manoah News on Friday
Blue Jays Drop Sudden Alek Manoah News on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning six of their last seven games at home, the Toronto Blue Jays open up a nine-game road trip on Friday, kicking off against the Minnesota Twins. Advertisement Despite some tough injury luck to start the season, Toronto (33-29) is holding up in the competitive AL East, currently 5.5 games back of the division-leading New York Yankees. On Friday morning, the team revealed some good news on a pair of pitchers recovering from major injuries, as reported by The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. Perhaps the most exciting was a sudden update on former first-round pick Alek Manoah, who hasn't pitched live in a year. Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah (6) in the Hamilton-Imagn Images According to Bannon, the 27-year-old Manoah is "expected to face live hitters for the first time" on Tuesday since undergoing a hybrid internal brace procedure in June 2024. Advertisement Manoah has experienced a roller coaster beginning to his MLB career after making the All-Star team and finishing third in AL Cy Young award voting in 2022. The next season was not good to him or Toronto after posting a 5.87 ERA and 3-9 record over 19 starts and 87 1/3 innings. However, he gave fans a glimmer of hope to start last season with a 3.70 ERA in five starts before his elbow injury sidelined him long term. Another fellow first-round draft pick also recovering from Tommy John surgery, Brandon Barriera, is farther ahead in his rehabilitation. As for his next step, he'll soon be joining the Florida Complex League (FCL) on a rehab assignment, per Bannon. Barriera, 21, hasn't pitched since last April. Blue Jays Receive Major Daulton Varsho News
Blue Jays Receive Major Daulton Varsho News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays are riding a wave of momentum, having secured their fifth consecutive victory with a 6-4 comeback win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. This impressive stretch has improved their record to 34-29, placing them third in the AL East. The team's resurgence is largely attributed to a revitalized offense, with key contributions from players like George Springer and Addison Barger, who both homered in the recent game. Advertisement The Blue Jays aim to extend their winning streak in the second game of the series against the Twins on Saturday. Kevin Gausman (5-4, 3.82 ERA) is set to take the mound for Toronto, facing off against Minnesota's Chris Paddack (2-5, 3.58 ERA). The Twins, also holding a 34-29 record, will be looking to rebound and maintain their position in the AL Central. Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho (5)© John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images Amid this successful run, the Blue Jays have been managing without key outfielder Daulton Varsho, who was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. Varsho sustained the injury while attempting to stretch a hit into a triple during a game against the Athletics. Despite this setback, there is positive news: Varsho has begun baseball activities at the team's complex in Dunedin, Florida. He is currently hitting in the batting cages and playing catch, though he has not yet resumed running. While there is no definitive timeline for Varsho's return, his progress is encouraging. His return would bolster the Blue Jays' lineup, as he is tied with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer for the team lead with eight home runs, despite playing in only 24 of the team's 58 games this season. As Toronto continues its push in the standings, getting Varsho back to full strength could be a significant boost for the team's aspirations.
