Nepali student found dead in Bhubaneswar university hostel, 2nd case in 3 months
A female student from Nepal was found dead in her hostel room at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Thursday evening, marking the second such incident involving a Nepali student on the campus within three months.Police said the student was found hanging in her room around 7 pm in one of the girls' hostels. 'Scientific and police team reached at the spot, and doing inquiry by asking other girls of the hostel. An UD (unnatural death) case been filed on this incident,' said Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh.advertisementAuthorities have informed both her parents and the Nepal embassy. The body has been sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem, and the investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
So far, the university administration has not issued any official statement.This incident comes close on the heels of another case in February, when 21-year-old Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year BTech student, was found dead in her hostel room. Her death sparked protests by over 500 Nepali students, and tensions escalated after college authorities reportedly tried to evict some students, prompting diplomatic intervention.In Lamsal's case, her friends had alleged that she died by suicide due to harassment by her ex-boyfriend, Advik Srivastava.Must Watch

He was arrested after the incident came to light on June 4 with the discovery of the bag containing the body of the victim – Tara Bohra – near a residential area in the city's Bachupally. The accused was identified as Vijay Toppa alias Wilson, who was employed as a chef at a nearby restaurant. The couple lived in a live-in relationship. The police said that the duo came to know each other on Facebook and then entered a relationship. Tara was already married and had two children. Despite this, she shifted to Hyderabad on April 15 and started sharing a rented accommodation in Bowrampet with Vijay. On May 23, the couple had an argument over her pregnancy, and Vijay allegedly strangled Tara in a fit of rage. Upon her death, he packed her body in a travel bag and left it in an isolated location. A local watchman found the body and informed the police. Senior Cyberabad Police officials, along with forensic teams, reached the spot and launched a detailed investigation. To nab the accused, five special teams were formed. Using CCTV footage and other technical clues, police tracked the suspect, Vijay, to the Medchal district and arrested him. A 30-year-old Nepali national has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly murdering his live-in partner, also from Nepal, stuffing her body into a travel bag, and dumping it in a deserted incident came to light on June 4 when the body of 33-year-old Tara Bohra was discovered in a travel bag abandoned near a residential area in Bachupally in swiftly detained the suspect, Vijay Toppa alias Wilson, a chef at a local restaurant, who had been in a live-in relationship with the victim. Investigations revealed that Vijay and Tara had met on Facebook and developed a relationship. Despite being married with two children, Tara moved to Hyderabad on April 15 and began living with Vijay in a rented house in to police, an argument erupted between the couple on May 23, reportedly over Tara's pregnancy. In a fit of rage, Vijay allegedly strangled Tara with a nylon bag thread. He then packed her body into a large travel bag, transported it to a secluded colony, and abandoned it.A local watchman discovered the body and alerted the police. Top officials of Cyberabad Police, including K Suresh Kumar, Satyanarayana, and Ravi Kiran Reddy, along with forensic teams, visited the crime scene and launched an intensive investigation. Nepal ex-PM under fire for alleged corruption over Patanjali-linked land deal, fined $1 million
Authorities in Nepal have charged former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal with corruption and demanded a million-dollar fine over the purchase of land by a firm owned by Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev, a court official said on Friday. Nepal, prime minister between 2009 and 2011, faces charges of allowing Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal company to purchase more land than it was legally allowed to own for herb production, processing and a hospital in the Himalayan nation 15 years ago. Both Nepal and Patanjali Yogpeeth deny any wrongdoing. The 72-year-old Nepal heads a small opposition group in parliament and his United Socialist Party says the prosecution is an act of "political vendetta" against him. "I have not done anything illegal nor indulged in any corruption concerning Patanjali land deal causing any loss to the state," Nepal told the Kantipur daily newspaper. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), a corruption watchdog, alleged that some of the land, in Kavre district, was later allowed to be swapped with other land, or sold at a higher price, causing a loss to the state. The allegations were set out in a charge sheet filed by the commission on Thursday at the Special Court in Kathmandu. The commission demanded Nepal be ordered to pay a fine of 185.85 million Nepali rupees ($1.35 million). If found guilty, he could also be sentenced to up to 17 years in jail. A spokesperson for Patanjali in India denied any wrongdoing, saying it bought the land privately through due legal process. "Patanjali has not acquired any government land. It is unfair to drag our name in local political vendetta actions and proceedings," S K Tijarawala, Patanjali's spokesperson, told Reuters in a text message. The commission also charged 92 others, including some former ministers and officials, some of whom are already dead. Yaga Raj Regmi, information officer of the court, said Nepal would receive a formal court notice giving him 15 days in which to present himself at court and the hearing would start after that.
