Venkateswara Nursing College Clinches Zonal Championship at 31st Tamil Nadu SNAI Biennial Conference, Secures Spot in State-Level Competition
The day began with registration at 8:00 a.m., followed by the inaugural ceremony at 9:00 a.m., which included the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Facilitator, Principal, Vice-Principal of Venkateswara Nursing College, Thalambur, SNA Advisor, and the Student SNA Representative. The competitions which included face painting, vegetable carving, hair styling, mehendi, comedy performance, mono acting, extempore speech, essay writing, pencil sketching, poster making, floor decoration (rangoli), on-the-spot painting, group dance, solo singing, and the Best SNA Unit contest were conducted simultaneously across various venues from 10:00 a.m. onwards. Each event was evaluated by two external experts from the respective fields, ensuring fair and unbiased judgment.
Winners of individual and group events were honored by the Facilitator, Principal, and Vice-Principal of Venkateswara Nursing College. Venkateswara Nursing College emerged as the overall champion, securing the highest accolades in the The valedictory session. Venkateswara Nursing College Thalambur will now represent Zone-2 at the State-Level Competitions scheduled to be held from 13th to 15th August 2025. Bon Secours College of Nursing, Kancheepuram, secured second place, while GRT College of Nursing, Tiruttani, took third place.
Two student volunteers from different colleges shared their feedback, appreciating the expert judgment that ensured fair recognition of talent, the timely and efficient execution of the events, and the warm hospitality extended by Venkateswara Nursing College, Thalambur.

Urea stock will arrive on Friday: Nandyal Collector
District Collector Rajakumari Gania has said the district will receive 3,500 metric tonnes of urea by Friday (August 1 ) and asked the officials to make the same available to the farmers. She said already 1,100 metric tonnes of urea is available in the district. Taking stock of the available of urea and other issues with officials in the collectorate on Thursday (July 31), Ms. Rajakumari Gania has asked officials to create awareness among the farmers not to use urea in excess. She asked officials to complete the process of e-KYC of crops in a transparent manner and ensure that every farmer completes e-KYC and insures their crop. The Collector said the deficit rainfall in June month had led to depleting of groundwater in Pyapili, Dhone and Kolimigundla mandals. She noted that the groundwater levels have fell to 24.23 metres in Pyapili mandal, 23.46 metres in Dhone and 26.67 metres in Kolimigunda mandal and asked officials to take up water conservation methods in these mandals. Ms. Rajakumari Gania wanted officials to create awareness among the people on water conservation methods. The Collector said micro watershed programme will be taken up through 18 projects in the 16 mandals of the district. The Collector asked officials to prepare a report of the projects to be taken for forwarding the same to the Central government through the State government. Ms Rajakumari Gania said the State government is spending crores of rupees on watershed programmes like digging farm ponds, dugout ponds, small and big circulation tanks and others and asked officials to take up these programmes in a proper manner for achieving better results. She asked the officials of irrigation department, ground water department, NABARD and others to coordinate and prepare plans for taking up watershed programmes. Ms Rajakumari Gania said they have sent proposals for taking up repair, renovation and restoration (RRR) initiative for ayacut strengthening by spending ₹138 crore.

Narpat Singh Hada, assistant engineer, SMSA, who reached Nanta Mahal on Saturday, said, 'The school is not technically safe at all and can face structural failure anytime.' Since Nanta Mahal is presently under the Archeological Survey of India , repair and maintenance work cannot be carried out without its authorisation. However, the district education department has now directed to shift the school, the process for which is underway,' Hada said. Mohammed Sharif, principal of the school, also admitted that the structure is more than 300 years old and is ruined from both outside and inside. Despite sending proposals for funds, maintenance and repair work cannot be carried out as the school management does not have any ownership paper for the structure which is under the ASI at present, Sharif said. A new report has found that women's employment in Bengaluru rose by 23% after the implementation of Karnataka's Shakti Scheme, which provides free bus travel for women across the state. According to a report by The Hindu, the findings are part of a report titled 'Beyond Free Rides: A Multi-State Assessment of Women's Bus Fare Subsidy Schemes in Urban India', published by Nikore Associates and commissioned by the Sustainable Mobility Network. The study spanned 10 cities across five states, Karnataka, Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, and drew from over 2,500 surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews. Karnataka stood out among the states studied, demonstrating the strongest link between fare-free public transport and employment gains for women, the report added. In both Bengaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad, nearly 27% of surveyed women said they switched to buses due to the scheme. Many also reported travelling longer distances and more frequently for work, education, and essential errands, the report further added. First- and last-mile connectivity remains a significant hurdle for many women, particularly in the outskirts of urban areas. Less than half of the women surveyed in Bengaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad said they felt safe while commuting. Reported concerns included harassment, poor lighting, overcrowded buses, and lack of staff at bus stops. To address these concerns and boost the scheme's overall impact, the report recommended several steps: expanding the bus fleet, hiring and training gender-sensitive staff, installing safety features like CCTV cameras and adequate lighting, and ensuring better integration with local transport options for first- and last-mile connectivity. Shakti Scheme data Since its launch on June 11, 2023, up to July 24, 2025, the Shakti Scheme has facilitated over 508 crore free trips for women across Karnataka. The total ticket value for these journeys amounts to ₹12,881 crore, covering services by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation.
