Filipino Times31-03-2025
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined the Filipino-Muslim community in celebrating Eid'l Fitr on Monday, March 31, marking the end of the month-long Ramadan (Festival of Breaking the Fast).
'In spirit, the Festival of Breaking the Fast is more than a celebration; it is a testament to our desire for shared humanity, strengthening bonds of family and friendship, as well as unity among our peers,' said Marcos.
He emphasized that the essence of the occasion lies in the capacity to help and uplift those in need and 'help find joy in those who seek it.'
'Only through living with compassion and inclusivity can we appreciate and understand what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sought to accomplish—a life where harmony and love prevail upon us all,' Marcos said, adding that Filipinos should not forget their shared responsibility to one another.
The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) announced on Sunday that Eid'l Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, would be celebrated today, March 31, following the successful sighting of the crescent moon.
The Bangsamoro Grand Mufti echoed the declaration, stating that the moon was sighted by the official Moon Sighting Team deployed to strategic locations.
Eid'l Fitr, observed on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, marks the conclusion of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection. It is a time for families and communities to unite in prayer, express gratitude, and celebrate together.

PH, UAE Celebrate 51 Years of Diplomatic Relations, Push for Deeper Economic Ties

The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marked the 51st anniversary of their diplomatic relations, reaffirming stronger economic cooperation and gearing up for the anticipated signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). In a statement, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Alqataam Alzaabi highlighted how bilateral ties have grown across trade, development, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Relations hit a milestone in November 2024 when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Abu Dhabi and met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Over the last three years, both countries signed 22 agreements spanning energy transition, culture, legal cooperation, and security. Among the latest initiatives are the UAE's USD 20 million commitment to rehabilitate the Pasig River and a USD 15 billion renewable energy partnership with Masdar to deliver up to 10 gigawatts of clean power by 2030. The UAE, home to over one million Filipinos, reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding their welfare while pursuing deeper collaboration. 'As the UAE and the Philippines celebrate 51 years of enduring friendship, both countries reaffirm their commitment to advancing cooperation, fostering innovation, and promoting shared prosperity,' Ambassador Alzaabi said. Foreign Affairs Secretary Theresa Lazaro also welcomed the ambassador in Manila, saying the Philippines looks forward to the CEPA signing in the coming weeks.

DMW Pushes Stricter Enforcement of Recruitment Rules to Protect OFWs

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac has urged both Philippine and foreign recruitment agencies to strictly follow Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) regulations, emphasizing ethical recruitment and stronger safeguards for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Speaking at the first regular congress of the Pinay Careworkers Transnational on August 19, 2025, Secretary Cacdac vowed stricter implementation of reforms in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to prioritize OFW welfare. 'We will be strict, we will be more circumspect in terms of recruitment agencies who violate our rules and regulations… patuloy tayong maghihigpit dito sa mga reporma,' Cacdac said. The Secretary cited recurring violations such as confiscation of passports and cellphones, and provision of poor living conditions for OFWs. He also called attention to abusive loan schemes in Hong Kong, promising to pursue legal remedies with international partners while strengthening financial literacy programs for Filipino workers. Cacdac further highlighted the DMW's reintegration initiatives, including upskilling and training programs for returning domestic workers. He noted new opportunities being developed with Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to widen caregiving employment pathways.

‘Mabuhay ang ugnayang Emirati-Filipino': UAE, Philippines celebrate 51 years of diplomatic relations

The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of the Philippines commemorate 51 years of diplomatic relations today, August 19, marking over five decades of partnership and mutual progress since formal ties were established in 1974. In a statement, His Excellency Mohamed Alqattam Alzaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, reflected on this milestone and reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation, drive innovation, and ensure shared prosperity for generations to come. 'The UAE is home to more than one million Filipinos, whose contributions enrich every sector of society. The UAE remains committed to safeguarding their welfare and strengthening the bonds between the two nations,' H.E. Alzaabi said. As part of the occasion, he recalled the November 2024 visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the UAE, where he met His Highness UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, adding that the two countries have expanded in areas such as trade, cultural exchange, development, and people-to-people connections. 'Over the past three years, both nations have signed approximately 22 agreements focusing on culture, energy transition, legal cooperation, government modernization, and security,' the Ambassador said. He added that the upcoming signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is also poised to further boost trade and investment across key industries. He highlighted recent joint initiatives that showcase the strength of the UAE-Philippines partnership, including the UAE's USD 20 million support for Pasig River rehabilitation and a USD 15 billion Masdar-Philippines initiative to develop renewable energy projects, projected to provide up to 10 gigawatts of clean power by 2030. H.E. Alzaabi concluded his message with warm wishes for the milestone, saying, 'Happy anniversary and Mabuhay ang ugnayang Emirati-Filipino!' As part of the anniversary celebrations, several historic landmarks in the Philippines, including the National Museum of the Philippines and the José Rizal Monument in Luneta Park, were illuminated in the colors of the UAE flag, honoring the 51-year-strong bond between the two nations.
