Inside Vauxhall's 199mph ‘Gran Turismo' Corsa with ‘rocket boost' & yoke steering that's inspiration for next supermini

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VAUXHALL has created this wild 199mph racer with s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y aero for Gran Turismo 7. But if you squint a little – and then again, a little bit harder – you're also looking at the next Corsa supermini. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 6 Vauxhall has created a 199mph Corsa - with its own rocket boost button Credit: Vauxhall 6 All the yellow and black bits on this life-sized concept, the proper racy stuff, have been dialled up for Gran Turismo 7 Credit: Vauxhall We're talking about the white bits, minus the cereal box wheel arches, and the slim visor-like light signature at the front. We like it. The next all-new Corsa should be with us in 2027. It'll come in both power types, petrol hybrid and pure electric, much like today. So you have the choice. But only the EV will come as a sporty GSE. All the yellow and black bits on this life-sized concept, the proper racy stuff, have been dialled up for the computer game. The rear spoiler and diffuser extend 25cm to increase downforce on long straights. Slow for a corner and the rear spoiler flips up to act as an air brake. The yoke-like steering wheel has a red 'rocket' boost button. You get four goes. Four illuminated squares on the top of the steering wheel. The new Vauxhall electric Mokka GSE has some serious rally vibes… and it's closely related to speedy GTI Once discharged, you have to wait for the regen to power them back up. That won't take long because this thing is a mighty 800hp, with two e-motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive. You'll back off before the car does. All the data you need is projected on to the windscreen in front of you. The dash and door panels light up to warn of another racer in your blindspot – or flash up a pit crew message like 'BOX, BOX'. Lots of triangle elements inside and outside of the car are a nod to Manta rally cars of old. Nice touch. Design chief Mark Adams told me: 'We did a lot of research and the biggest gamers in Europe are UK and Germany, which is perfect for Vauxhall and Opel. 'So this Vision Gran Turismo car is a way of connecting to a younger audience and bringing them into the brand. 'Corsa is our best-selling car by a long way, so making something fit around the character of Corsa was key. 'You can see the bits that are more design language and then the super hi-tech racing parts. HARD-EDGE PERFORMANCE "But we've kept it to a Corsa footprint.' Vauxhall has already previewed Mokka GSE packing a 280hp e-motor and a limited-slip differential. That's almost double the power of a regular Mokka Electric. Adams said: 'We are well positioned with our core models and now we are adding the spice and emotion with GSE. 'Our current GSE cars are nice but they are not hard-edge performance. We want to switch that.' Here's an idea. How about putting two e-motors in the Gran Turismo Corsa and let us take it to a real racetrack. We dare you. 6 The dash and door panels light up to warn of another racer in your blindspot Credit: Vauxhall 6 The next all-new Corsa should be with us in 2027 Credit: Vauxhall 6 Lots of triangle elements inside and outside of the car are a nod to Manta rally cars of old Credit: Vauxhall LAMBO'S new V12 hypercar is called Fenomeno. Italian for phenomenal. 6 Lamborghini's new V12 hypercar Fenomeno Credit: Supplied Can't argue with that. It's the fastest, most powerful Lambo ever created, banging out an incredible 1,080hp, and it looks the mutt's nuts. An 'unexpectedly elegant spaceship' according to the designer. Minus the laser beams. All 29 cars, at £3million a pop, were sold immediately. Fenomenal.

Hugely popular hatchback loved by Brits gets bold new look as next-gen model is previewed for very first time

The futuristic motor is a taste of things to come FRESH FACE Hugely popular hatchback loved by Brits gets bold new look as next-gen model is previewed for very first time Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VAUXHALL have given fans something to sink their teeth into with a bold new look for the Corsa. The iconic hatchback, one of the nation's most beloved small cars, has been unveiled in a bold new form. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Vauxhall unveils its futuristic Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept Credit: Vauxhall 4 Its all-electric powertrain delivers 800bhp and 0-62mph in 2 seconds Credit: Vauxhall 4 Cutting-edge interior and striking exterior push boundaries of style Credit: Vauxhall 4 It offers a glimpse at the future Corsa supermini, arriving in 2027 Credit: Vauxhall The British firm, which is part of Stellantis, recently joined the Gran Turismo franchise - the world famous series known for allowing gamers to race everything from regular family motors through to supercars and even concepts. Vauxhall are to use the platform to show off the new Corsa GSE Vision - which is set to debut at the Munich Motor Show in September before being available to drive and race in the game. But while most concept cars are bizarre and, in some cases, a little silly, this one truly serves as a vision of the all-new Vauxhall Corsa supermini that's due to arrive in 2027. This bold look is simply the car's potential high-performance GSE iteration and takes the form of a three-door hatchback with quite a few extravagant design elements. That includes staggered 21 and 22-inch wheels within huge wheelarches and the 'Vizor' design at the front, as well as new lighting to create a cross-like design. Naturally, for a souped up concept design, there's also an outrageous air intake and bonnet vent, as well as a roof-mounted wing and enormous rear diffuser. The rear sees a clean and simple glazed tail that leads into an illuminated Vauxhall badge and a lightbar. The cabin is also rather futuristic and purely conceptual, with a yoke-style steering wheel and a head-up display, including back-lit fabrics for driver information such as blind-spot warnings. Powered by electric, of course, the concept boasts impressive performance details with two electric motors - each producing 400bhp - to combine for 800bhp and 800Nm of torque. It's also extremely lightweight at 1,170kg, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62mph in just two seconds with an eye-popping top speed of 199mph. The new Vauxhall electric Mokka GSE has some serious rally vibes… and it's closely related to speedy GTI Mark Adams, Vauxhall's chief designer, explained the concept's role in introducing the GSE brand. He told Auto Express: 'We wanted to build this because introducing the GSE brand in the right way, it was important to put the vision here first. 'But it then happens that following hot on the heels of this is a real first production car. "It's not exactly the same as this, but then it's the first of several to come.' While the dual-motor layout is purely conceptual, the car uses the Stellantis SLTA-S platform, set to underpin superminis and SUVs. A production GSE Corsa is expected - but will likely feature a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, much like its label-mate the Peugeot 208 GTi.

Drivers heading to hugely popular festival this weekend warned of hefty fines for dangerous mistake on the motorway

National Highways has reminded drivers of the potential fines for dangerous behaviour FESTIVAL FINE Drivers heading to hugely popular festival this weekend warned of hefty fines for dangerous mistake on the motorway Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MUSIC lovers excited for this weekend's Creamfields festival have been warned to avoid making a silly mistake on the motorway which could result in a nasty fine. The electronic dance music festival, a four-day event held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend in Daresbury, Cheshire, is located near Junction 11 of the M56 motorway. Their warning stems from pedestrians walking on the motorway or vehicles stopping to drop off or pick up passengers - which is illegal and highly dangerous. Offenders who are caught doing this may be fined, with those arriving by car instructed to use designated collection points which are clearly marked off the motorway. To this end, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid congestion, while also following dedicated event signs - rather than relying on sat nav systems which may lead them onto unsuitable roads. For the event, extra police and National Highways traffic officers will be stationed near junction 11 of the M56 to manage traffic and ensure safety. Car parks for the festival site will open at midday on Thursday and close at 2 pm on Monday. Traffic from the north, south and east are urged to use junction 11 of the M56, while traffic from the west should use junction 12. Congestion hotspots include junctions 10, 11 and 12 of the M56 and the M56/M6 interchange at Lymm are expected to be particularly busy. Electronic motorway signs will be used to provide real-time updates on congestion and incidents. Creamfields, which runs from Thursday at 2 pm to Sunday at 11 pm, will have an expected 70,000 attendees. Watch Tesla test self-driving cars on London streets as it passes famous landmarks TAKE THE LEED Reading and Leeds Festival is also taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, running from Thursday to Sunday. At the Leeds iteration, held at Bramham Park, around 90,000 attendees are expected and those driving to the event have been warned that roadworks on certain routes, including the M1, A1(M) and A64, could cause delays. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, while on-site parking is included for ticketholders - with routes to car parks clearly signposted. Helpfully, a dedicated festival bus will run from Leeds railway station to the site from Wednesday to Monday, with tickets available online. As with Creamfields, National Highways will have extra traffic officers on duty and electronic signs will provide updates on incidents and congestion.
