Robertson praises squad and the Tartan Army

Scotland's captain, Sarah Robertson, praised the squad after they edged France 2-0 in the EuroHockey Championships in Germany to move up to No 13 in the world rankings, their highest-ever position.
The Borders-born former University of Edinburgh star, slotted after 34 minutes, blasting the ball into the net, following a penalty corner breakdown and her fellow Olympian, Edinburgh-raised Amy Costello, added a second from a penalty corner seven minutes later.
The French side pressed hard but determined defending kept them at bay and Robertson (pictured) said: 'I am absolutely delighted. This result increases our world ranking.'
Scotland have won two and drawn one of their five games in the star-studded tournament, the draw coming against Spain, rated in the world's top ten and semi-finalists in this tournament.
Robertson said: 'It (the win over France) is a fantastic result and I am really proud of the whole squad. We also have some fine young talent coming through.'
She also praised the enthusiastic Tartan support and said: 'We always great support and we are truly grateful to them.'
Earlier, France pressure almost told and Scotland goalkeeper, Jessica Buchanan, was forced into a pad save at the left hand post on an angle, but Scotland countered.
Heather McEwan made a darting run into a dangerous position, and that sparked Scotland. The same player was inches away from deflecting the ball towards goal after a speculative hit into the circle.
Ava Findlay then made a driving run to the by line, but the French rearguard stood firm, closing down the Scots in their zone with tight defence, and the Tartan Hearts did not allow France to break out of their half.
Scotland had lots of possession but few shots on the French goalkeeper, but French broke and forced a penalty corner as the seconds ticked towards the end of the first quarter. Buchanan was not tested and Scotland roared back upfield.
Findlay was highly-effective down the left, and a Costello shot was scrambled clear before Sarah Jamieson, on her 100th cap, drove to near post only to be blocked. Then a Ellie Mackenzie reverse stick shot flew wide in the final minute on the first-half.
The French side piled on pressure and had the ball in the net from a cute flick, but the video referee ruled that a dangerous ball had flown into the circle. No goal.
They continued to drive forward and Buchanan smothered a penalty corner before, at the other end, Robertson was fouled for a Scotland penalty corner. Costello made no mistake with a big hit into bottom left and the French goalkeeper had no chance for No 2.
McEwan was inches away from claiming a third but the French goalkeeper got down low to her left to parry before danger at the other end. Buchanan was there to block.
The clock ticked down with Mackenzie full of running, and experienced Jen Eadie using her stick handling skills to deny the French.
Charlotte Watson then break into D and Jamieson was unable to make up the ground as the ball flashed across the circle goal S Jamieson unable to make up ground 5.23, then McEwan failed to connect with another chance.
A green card to France with jut over three minutes remaining did not help their cause and Scotland held out for a historic win.

Gutted Robert MacIntyre admits he BLEW it as he loses BMW duel with Open champ Scottie Scheffler

MacIntyre had bogeys at the first, second and fifth and never recovered as he hit a three-over round of 73. Scheffler led by the turn at Caves Valley and finished with a three-under 67 to grab the $3.6million winner's cheque. MacIntyre, who earned $2.16m as runner-up, edged back to within one stroke of Scheffler but dropped another shot on the 13th. Scheffler then shed a shot but birdied the 15th to restore a two-shot lead. MacIntyre, 29, halved that advantage again with his first birdie of the day on the 16th hole. But Scheffler - who has now had 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s - ended his hopes when he holed from off the green at the 17th. It was a cruel end for MacIntyre, who held on for second place ahead of Maverick McNealy. And he didn't hold back as he asssessed his final round. The Oban ace said: "I didn't feel like I controlled distance well. It was just a poor day. "I don't know what else to say - absolutely abysmal." The second-placed finish also guarantees MacIntyre's spot on Luke Donald's European team at next month's Ryder Cup. The Scot will tee it up at Bethpage State Park - and got into the spirit of things for that clash during his third round when he shushed a noisy fan in the crowd. But the Ryder Cup spot seemed like scant consolation for MacIntyre after coming so close - yet so far - from what would have been the biggest win of his career so far. Chelsea owners attacked by Strasbourg ultras as angry statement calls for 'abuse' to end

Todd Boehly and BlueCo haven't been popular at Strasbourg since an investment in the club arrived in 2023, with Chelsea's owners coming under renewed pressure from fans Strasbourg have welcomed a number of Chelsea players, both on loan and in permanent deals, since investment arrived from the Premier League side's owners BlueCo. Fans have been against the situation from the start, though, and continue to voice their frustrations at the start of the new Ligue 1 season. ‌ Kendry Paez and Mike Penders are among the Chelsea players to join Strasbourg on loan this summer as the French side prepare for European football. Fan group The Ultra Boys 90 remain angry, though, and attacked the higher-ups from Todd Boehly's group in a fresh statement while calling for footballing authorities to intervene. ‌ "The transfer window carried out so far proves to the point of absurdity that Racing [the club's full name is Racing Club Strasbourg Alsace] is no longer a club that makes decisions in its own interest," the statement read, as translated by Goal. "On the contrary, we are witnessing a headlong rush where Chelsea is calling the shots to the detriment of our club's independence. ‌ "The problem with timeshare ownership is profound; it's a destructive logic that transforms historic clubs into interchangeable parts of a globalised portfolio, and this system is becoming widespread. Our legislators must quickly address this issue to put an end to the abuses it causes. "We have always defended a deeply rooted, grassroots football, driven by vibrant stands and a unique history. Today, they are trying to impose a model on us where clubs are run like fast-food franchises. The current good results must not blind us or interfere in our fight, which goes far beyond the culture of the moment and short-term visions of what Racing offers on the pitch." Strasbourg finished seventh in Ligue 1 last term, and were in contention for Champions League qualification until late in the season. However, this hasn't changed the fan group's feelings. "What is happening within our club is too serious for us to pretend that everything is fine in the face of authentic football, which is dying," they added. "We will continue to denounce all the excesses of timeshare ownership and interference in our club." The feelings are consistent with comments made when investment arrived back in 2023. "Between the multi-club ownership that we can never accept and the destructive sporting policy, it is now time to say things clearly: BlueCo is not welcome at the Meinau and never will be," the same fan group said at the time. ‌ Strasbourg won their Ligue 1 opener on Sunday, beating Metz 1-0. Penders started in goal and Paez came off the bench, but it was another new signing - Argentine forward Joaquin Panichelli - who scored the winner. Liam Rosenior's side will now take on Brondby in the Conference League before returning to league action against Nantes on Sunday. Danish outfit Brondby overcame a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Vikingur Rejkjavik of Iceland to book their place in the play-off. The United boss turned to new boy Benjamin Sesko in the second half. But the ball just wouldn't fall for a red shirt in the box. Here's how SunSport rated each Man Utd performer on the day. ALTAY BAYINDIR - 4 Got the nod ahead of Onana but his blunder undid all United's good early work. Needed to be stronger as he flapped at the corner and gifted Calafiori the opening goal. 8 LENY YORO - 7 Still only 19 but the French defender looks a class act. Kept Martinelli quiet and then switched sides to keep an eye on Saka after Shaw went off. Will be a key part of United's defence for years to come. MATTHIJS DE LIGT - 7 Showed his defensive qualities when Gyokeres went through and when the Swede was withdrawn on the hour he knew he had done his job. Great late block to deny Saka a second goal for the Gunners. 8 Matthijs de Ligt battles with Kai Havertz Credit: Getty LUKE SHAW - 6 Bit of a surprise to see him start but a sign of the faith the manager has in him and hopefully his injury problems are behind him now. Did a decent job keeping Saka quiet before his lack of game time caught up and Maguire replaced him. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK DIOGO DALOT - 6 Nice link up with Mbeumo and got in a couple of decent positions down the right but with no centre forward there was nobody to pick out. Replaced by Amad early in second half as United needed more attacking threat. 8 Diogo Dalot was substituted before the hour mark Credit: Getty CASEMIRO - 6 More talk of a move away in recne t weeks but here he was starting the new season in the middle. Used his experience to keep United in the ascendancy before making way for fresh legs of Ugarte. Sliced an early effort wide but came so close to equaliser with shot that smacked the post. Nice cross for Mbeuemo too. BRYAN MBEUMO - 8 Early chance shot straight at Raya, overhead kick just wide and brought a flying save out of Raya. Saw an effort blocked, some nice link up play and did a job on Arsenal's midfield but then made way for the new £74 million forward midway through the second half. MATHEUS CUNHA - 8 Super run through a crowd of players before shot straight at Raya showed what he is all about. Caused Arsenal's normally secure backline plenty of problems. United fans are going to love the Brazilian. 8 Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves over the summer Credit: Reuters SUBSTITUTES Amad Diallo (for Dalot, 55) - 6 Gave United more of an attacking threat but could not find a way through. Manuel Ugarte (for Casemiro, 65) - 5 Fired a long range shot high and wide late on when he should have done better. Benjamin Sesko (for Mount, 65) - 5 Huge ovation for the new boy and a couple of half chances – should have been on earlier. Harry Maguire (for Shaw, 80) - 5 Booked before he had even had a touch – then pushed up front in search of an equaliser.
