
Road crew worker, 23, fatally struck by excavator bucket in Brighton Township, police say
The victim, from St. Clair Shores, was hit by the excavator bucket while working in an excavated hole in the area of Grand River near I-96 in Brighton Township, according to Michigan State Police. Troopers from the Brighton post responded to the scene around 3:15 p.m.
"It appears the worker operating the excavator was not aware the victim was in the hole," MSP First District said in a news release.

When state troopers arrived, Brighton police were already providing medical aid, according to MSP. The victim, who had critical injuries, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he died.
Brighton police, Brighton Fire Department and Livingston County EMS assisted at the scene.
The incident appears to be a workplace accident, but the investigation is ongoing.

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who died after being thrown from a vehicle during a crash in Zeeland Township was driving a Consumers Energy truck, deputies say. Deputies: 1 dead after Zeeland Township crash Around 7:30 p.m. , the 43-year-old Blendon Township man was headed south on 88th Avenue in a Consumers Energy F-550 truck approaching Ransom Street, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. A 64-year-old Park Township woman was headed west on Ransom Street in a Toyota Corolla. The two collided, throwing the man from the truck. He died at the scene, according to deputies.
