La Fiamma's women's team stars in Perth at the Women's League Cup
The squad faced Wanneroo in their first game in the Women's League Cup last weekend. Wanneroo were coming off clean sheet wins — 12-0 win in their first game and a 5-0 win in their second game.
It was a quick start from La Fiamma with Chilean player Monse Fernandez scoring in the first three minutes, shocking the opposition in the process.
Macie Gray scored the second goal for La Fiamma in the 10th minute extending their lead to 2-0 early in the piece, well and truly putting Wanneroo on the back foot.
Indiana Burns came through in the 18th minute with a goal, with Olivia Bidwell following up in the 31st minute and Cassie Green in the 33rd minute, making it 5-0 to La Fiamma.
With a 5-0 lead at half-time La Fiamma jumped out the blocks in the second half with a Bidwell goal in the 46th minute.
Fernandez found the back of the net once more in the 54th minute, drawing La Fiamma's lead out to 7-0 and piling more scoreboard pressure onto Wanneroo.
Bidwell scored her hat-trick in the 79th minute just a day after her game for Towns back home.
In the final minute Paige Carslake scored the final goal for La Fiamma, finishing 9-0 victors.
La Fiamma's coach Mark Gray said he couldn't have asked for a better outcome after a long road trip to Perth.
'I couldn't have asked for anything more, they were incredible,' he said.
'They gave it their all and put together one of the best games I have seen them play in the five years I have been coaching them.
'It has been something that they have been wanting for a number of years, to go down to Perth and compete with the best and to see them smash it out of the park was really special.'
Opening the door for women to have the opportunity to play in Perth like the men's team, Gray said it was vital to growing the women's game in the Mid West.
'It gives the girls an opportunity to test themselves against other teams in Perth,' Gray said.
'It just opens up more possibilities for women in this sport and I think that is really important for the growth of the game here.'
The squad will continue to play in Geraldton and in the Women's League Cup this season.

Rahm a winner despite losing LIV Golf playoff
Jon Rahm has successfully defended his LIV Golf season points title without winning an event all year, closing with an 11-under 60 before losing a playoff to Sebastian Munoz on the first extra hole in the Indianapolis event. Munoz won two days after becoming the first player to shoot 59 with a double bogey. The Colombian — with Rahm hitting balls on the driving range — birdied the final two holes in regulation for a 65 to match Rahm at 22 under at The Club at Chatham Hills. Rahm also lost on the first extra hole last week outside Chicago, falling to Dean Burmester in a three-way playoff that included Josele Ballester. On Sunday, Munoz beat the Spanish star with a birdie on the par-4 18th in the playoff. Rahm took the season points title from Chilean Joaquin Niemann, a five-time winner this season. Niemann shot a 66 to tie for fourth at 17 under, his first top-10 finish of the year that he didn't win. Munoz led Torque GC to the team event championship, finishing at 64 under to break the LIV record of 53 under. Cameron Smith (67) was the best-placed Australian at 13 under and in a tie for 14th. Compatriots Lucas Herbert (67) completed his three rounds four under the card, Matt Jones (67) three under and Marc Leishman (73) two over. The all-Aussie Ripper GC came home in 13th, and last, at 18 under. Ian Poulter birdied four of his last five holes for a 67 to tie for 17th and avoid relegation from the tour. Majesticks teammate Henrik Stenson was relegated, missing a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole that would have keep him on the tour and left Poulter out. With AAP.

Hibs boss lavishes praise on prolific Socceroos ace
David Gray has praised Martin Boyle for "constantly delivering" for Hibernian after the long-serving forward brought up his century for the club with a double in their 2-0 win away to 10-man Partizan Belgrade. The 32-year-old Socceroo, who first joined the Hibees more than a decade ago, helped the Edinburgh club capitalise on a 34th-minute dismissal for Vukasin Durdevic as they pulled off one of their most notable European results in decades in the Serbian capital. Captain Boyle scored his 100th goal for the Hibees in the 40th minute before notching his second of the evening from the penalty spot midway through the second half as Gray's side seized full command of their Conference League third qualifying round tie at the half-way stage. "Martin Boyle constantly delivers for this club," Hibs boss Gray told BBC Scotland. "That's 101 goals now, to do that shows how much of a threat he is and he demonstrated that again tonight. "Not just that, I spoke a lot last season about him and the leadership skills, he needed that extra responsibility to take him on to the next level and he's delivering. "I'm delighted for him on a personal note because he's been sitting on 99 goals for a while now, so he can start passing to other players now!" If Hibs can close out the tie in the return leg at Easter Road next Thursday, they will face a Conference League play-off against the loser of the Europa League qualifier between AEK Larnaca and Legia Warsaw, with the Cypriot side leading 4-1 after the first leg. Gray was thrilled with the result in the hostile Partizan Stadium on a special night when the club turned 150. But he is not taking anything for granted. "To come here and win 2-0 was unbelievable," he said. "It was some effort. You ask the players to come over here and make sure the tie is still alive when you go home, and we've certainly done that. "We've put ourselves in a fantastic position but I reminded the players it's only half-time in the tie. Based on our second-half performance, there's plenty to improve on." In some of the other Conference league action, Tammy Abraham scored a first-half hat-trick as Besiktas completed a comfortable 4-1 win over St Patrick's Athletic at the Tallaght Stadium. Joao Mario put the Turkish side ahead before former Chelsea forward Abraham, who joined in the summer from Roma after spending last season on loan at AC Milan, tapped in from close range on 14 minutes. Abraham, capped 11 times by England, doubled his tally with a neat finish before adding a penalty just before half-time. Dundee Utd also gave themselves a good chance of further progress after battling to a 2-2 draw at Rapid Vienna. Rapid saw a late goal from Louis Schaub ruled out for offside in the build-up to leave the tie delicately poised. In some of the Europa League first-leg of third-round qualifying, Panathinakos drew 0-0 with Shakhtar Donetsk at home with PAOK playing to the same scoreline, also at home, to Wolfsberg. Midtjylland beat Fredrikstad 3-1 while Braga were also successful away, winning 2-1 at Cluj. Bunnies young gun coy on future after being linked to R360
Young gun Jye Gray has left the door ajar to leave South Sydney for a rival league when his contract expires at the end of next year. Gray was reportedly given a $US600,000 ($A922,000) contract to join rugby union's global start-up R360 competition, which is set to begin in 2027 and serve as a rival to the NRL. If the 28-cap Rabbitohs fullback was to join, he might play alongside stars including Ryan Papenhuyzen, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Zac Lomax who are all in negotiations to join the breakaway league. 'My manager is looking after everything outside of that, but I'm just excited to play Gold Coast this weekend,' Gray said on Thursday. 'I played rugby only a little bit in school, but that's about it.' His coach Wayne Bennett is worried about the rebel competition. It's a huge threat, absolutely,' Bennett told Code Sports. 'The NRL is the toughest competition in the world with the best athletes. We cannot ignore it. 'I don't know how we combat it but I will say this - the game needs to come together sooner rather than later in terms of the CEOs and the game itself. 'They will be looking at the star players like (Nathan) Cleary, Latrell (Mitchell) or Reece Walsh, they are the ones that the fans pay their money to watch. 'If we lost just 10 or 12 players like them, it will leave a massive hole in our competition. 'Look at the golf. Who would have thought LIV would be a threat but it is. The amount of money they have paid, we will never be able to match them if they (R360) are serious about the amount of money they have to spend. Broncos great Corey Parker agreed with Bennett. 'I'm at a point now if the R360 is taking off - and it's my belief it's going to - we have got our heads in the sand and we're not doing enough,' he wrote on SEN. Gray also spoke about Lewis Dodd's signing saga after reports Bennett had reportedly told the Englishman he's free to look elsewhere for next season aired on Tuesday. The $2 million signing insists his future remained at Souths, telling reporters Bennett had been playing 'games.' But, Gray told reporters Dodd deserves to stay in Australia regardless of his future with Souths. 'I think he's a great footballer, and he's an even better bloke off the field,' Gray said. 'He will have a future in rugby league. And, whatever he has to do is up to him. 'He will get a crack somewhere.' Jacob Host has his own contract issues to deal with at Redfern. The second-rower's contract expires at the end of 2025 and has confirmed he's talking to other clubs. However, he was more focused on South Sydney's match against the Titans which has been coined the 'Spoon Bowl'. A win would lift the Rabbitohs off the foot of the ladder and jump their opponents. Host said ahead of Sunday, Bennett had banned the words wooden spoon in the locker room. 'It's a word we are not allowed to say,' Host said. 'He just avoids it at all costs. We've had a lot of injuries this year. 'We're just trying to go out there, keep the gloves up and keep fighting every week.' Latrell Mitchell, meantime, got through two thirds of Thursday's training session after he was named on the extended bench. Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham were also seen running, with Host confirming they are 'only a few weeks away'.
