Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson flex comedy muscles in The Pickup

Actor-comedians Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson team up for The Pickup, a heist movie that sees them sparring as a pair of incompatible armoured truck drivers. Starring opposite Murphy, 64, was "a bucket list thing" for Davidson, 31, who had admired Murphy's work since he was seven. Unlike their characters, the two had much in common. "Pete comes from SNL (Saturday Night Live). He's a standup comic. We're both from the East Coast," said Murphy. "I love to get into a scene with somebody else that's funny, improvise with them, and start playing. I love it." On a routine round of cash pickups, Murphy's Russell and Davidson's Travis are targeted by criminals. Things get personal when Travis discovers that the thieves are led by his one-night-stand from the night before, played by Keke Palmer, and the life of Russell's hot-headed wife, played by Eva Longoria, comes under threat. The duo must pull together to save the day. The script, by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, served as their blueprint, and director Tim Story encouraged them to go off it, the two said. "We would do one as written, and then Tim and everyone was, (sic) like, 'Just go nuts', and we would end up just trying to one-up each other. We were just trying to make each other laugh," said Davidson. "They were improvising constantly, and it was really sweet to see. It's so cool because you see two different generations," added Palmer. The generational differences also seeped into the scenes, with the fighting taking its toll on Russell's body. "Usually in these types of movies or my early movies like the Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hrs, I was the young maverick, and now I'm the older guy," said Murphy. Murphy has been making movies for 43 years and said new challenges were few and far between. "I've played different ethnicities and different genders. I've been inanimate. I've played spaceships. I've played every type of role you could possibly imagine," he said, but added he was working on "something fresh and new". "We're doing George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, we're doing his life. And there's no one like George. So I'll be in uncharted waters."

Fans pay tribute to Sinead O'Connor on anniversary

Two years have now passed since Sinéad O'Connor sadly died at the age of 56. The Irish legend left an everlasting mark on the country's music scene, as well as being a cultural icon to many across the world. The singer's death was confirmed to be a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, after she was found unresponsive in her London flat on July 26, 2023. Sinead O'Connor ripped up a photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live in 1992. Pic: NBC Sinéad's untimely death shocked and upset fans all around the world and now they have continued to pay tribute to the star to mark her second anniversary. One fan shared on social media: 'Paid a visit to Deansgrange Cemetery today and laid some flowers at the grave of Sinéad O'Connor. 2 years tomorrow since she passed. Nothing compares to you, Sinéad.' Another wrote: 'R.I.P. Sinéad O'Connor! Thank you for standing on the right side of history. Your humanity in the Palestinian people has proven you to be a true leader in representing equality. Nothing but respect for the Irish people.' Sinead O'Connor passed away two years ago today. Pic: Getty. A third added: 'There are no words to describe the artist Sinéad … Thank you Sinéad, for the gems of beauty you shared with us.' Yet another said: 'She will never ever be forgotten. She was unique and complicated. She wasn't a typical voice, musically, artistically and politically. She was both fragile and powerful. She was a fighter and a force. For me, she is my ultimate Irish icon and a connection with my half Irish heritage.' District Music paid a tribute to Sinéad, saying: 'Her voice wasn't just musical, it was a protest, a prayer, and a force for truth in a world too often afraid of it. We remember her not just for her art, but for her courage.' Fans outside the former home of Sinead O'Connor in Bray ahead of her funeral in 2023. Pic: Liam McBurney/PA Wire Earlier this week, singer Imelda May also shared her memories of Sinéad while speaking on Ireland AM. She said: 'Sinead was absolutely brilliant, she spoke the truth and she was brave as anyone I ever knew, she was one of the bravest women. 'She took the grief that she got all the time and she was just full of love all the time and I really miss her, I'll miss her forever.' Sinéad O'Connor was a unique figure in Irish music. Pic: Andre Csillag/REX/Shutterstock Last week, Sinéad's father Seán told Oliver Callan on RTE Radio One that he visits his daughter's grave every week to 'bring her up to date'. The 87-year-old revealed Sinéad's grave is simple and was designed by another one of his daughters, Eimear. He said: 'It's more to do with the fans than her family. Her family is in the heart. Asked how he was by Sinéad's side during the turbulent times of her career, Seán revealed there was nothing he could do but be there for her. 'She was always on the edge. We got on really well, most of the time, and sometimes she'd fall out with me.' He then recalled one of his final memories with his daughter, when the pair headed away for a staycation to Wexford in January 2023. Seán remarked: 'We went down to the holiday, checking in two rooms and we went off for a drive and we came back and I had been upgraded. 'I had a suite — and chocolates [and] a bunch of flowers. You couldn't go anywhere with Sinéad, somebody would come over, 'Oh, Sinéad love. How are ya?'' He added that he was 'beginning to deal with' the loss of his daughter.

Astronomer get the perfect PR hire after Coldplay kiss cam drama

The company whose CEO had to resign after he was caught having an alleged affair at a Coldplay gig have brought in the perfect crisis management hire. We know you've seen the video or at least heard the story at this rate, but for those who haven't, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned under a shroud of controversy after he was caught sharing an embrace with his coworker at a Coldplay concert when singer Chris Martin put them on the big screen as a 'kiss cam' moment. With all eyes on the company at the centre of the controversy, Astronomer leaned into the controversy in perfect fashion, hiring a new, very temporary spokesperson (and Chris Martin's ex-wife!) Gwyneth Paltrow to 'address' the controversy. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. — Astronomer (@astronomerio) July 25, 2025 Saying that she's been hired on a very temporary basis, Gwyneth said in the minute-long video that Astronomer 'has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.' The first most common question (naturally) was 'OMG! What the actual f–' before Gwyneth immediately cuts off the question by saying 'yes, Astronomer is the best place to run Apache airflow,' before explaining the use of AI in the company. 'We've been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,' Gwyneth said, not breaking even once. 'As for the other questions…' before the next question asks 'how is your social media team holding up?' The company whose CEO had to resign after he was caught having an alleged affair at a Coldplay gig have brought in the perfect crisis management hire following the scandal. Pic: instagraace/Instagram Gwyneth immediately cuts off the second question, saying: 'Yes! There is still room available at our Beyond Analytics event in September,' before saying that Astronomer will return to 'what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers.' People loved the video, and particularly who they managed to get as their spokesperson — with one person writing on Twitter (X) 'This might be one of the greatest cases of crisis management you'll see in a while. This will definitely be used as a case study in schools for years to come. The fact that they used Chris Martin's ex-wife for this makes it even more incredible!!!' 'Guys this is a PR masterclass,' another wrote. 'You take the most viral moment of July 2025 and, instead of disaster control, make light of the situation and create the ultimate brand awareness,' while another added that it was 'one of the best crisis responses I've ever seen in my entire life.' Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow were married for over a decade. Pic: Christopher Polk/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank/NBC/Getty Images Gwyneth and Chris married in 2003 and were together for over a decade, sharing two children, Apple and Moses, before separating and ultimately divorcing in 2016. The scandal occurred during the band's gig in Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts, earlier this month, when Andy and his Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were displayed on the big screen having a cuddle. The pair immediately separated and went into hiding, with Chris joking: 'Either they're having an affair or are just really shy,' with Andy resigning as Astronomer CEO just days after the scandal. Astronomer have since confirmed that Ms Cabot left the company earlier this week.
