G Flip Will Channel ‘Butch Springsteen' on Eighties-Inspired Album ‘Dream Ride'
'When diving in and writing this record, I was sonically captivated by the '80s. I love the use of reverb, the drum tones, all the sonics, the musicality, the soloing, and big drum moments,' G Flip said in a press statement. 'I also really wanted to make a world to accompany the music and storytelling. I kept asking myself, 'Who would I have been in the 80's? What would I wear, what haircut would I have, and what car would I drive?''

They add: 'The answer is Butch Springsteen, the masc lesbian, non-binary, drumming, singing pop star that never existed.'
G Flip explained that Dream Ride was born after many late-night drives to the studio, which inspired car-themed lyrics in the songs they were creating. 'I also love old cars and totally wanted to drive a Barracuda around,' they admit. (The album cover sees G Flip posing outside of a hot-pink car with a retro-inspired design.)
To celebrate the album announcement, G Flip released the single 'In Another Life,' which they say is the start of their album's Dream Ride. The LP is also set to feature previously released singles 'Disco Cowgirl' and 'Big Ol' Hammer,' which starred Fortune Feimster.
Dream Ride follows their second studio album, Drummer, which dropped in 2023. 'I wanted to bring back just how I go about making music from the band sense and as a kid. The new record's very instrument-based, very drum-heavy, very organic-sounding,' they told Rolling Stone. 'There's no loops that I got from the internet. Not saying that that's a bad thing, but for my creative process, I wanted it to be very hands-on and me physically playing everything.'

Rian Johnson Admits He Had a ‘Ruthless' Disdain for ‘Star Wars' Prequels
Despite having directed his own much derided entry into the film franchise, 'The Last Jedi' director Rian Johnson told Rolling Stone he once had a 'ruthless' hate for the 'Star Wars' prequels released between 1999 and 2005. 'I was in college when the prequels came out,' he explained. 'My friends and I were Prequel Hate Central. Everyone was ruthless at the time.' 'Now the prequels are embraced,' he continued. 'I'm not saying that as a facile, 'Oh, things will flip around in 20 years, you'll see!' It's more that this push and pull, and this hatred to stuff that seems new, this is all part of being a 'Star Wars' fan. Culture-war garbage aside, I think that essential part of it is a healthy part.' Johnson's own entry into the 'Star Wars' universe was not universally beloved upon release (the movie still has the lowest fan score on Rotten Tomatoes). Johnson said the reactions were 'complicated' at the time of the movie's release. 'It never feels good to have anybody coming after you on the internet, and especially coming after you saying things that I think I very much do not agree with about a thing I made and put a lot of heart and soul into.' He added that being a 'Star Wars' fan helped him get through the experience of his own film being attacked. 'At the same time, having grown up a Star Wars fan ultimately let me contextualize it and feel at peace with it in many different ways,' Johnson said. 'Just remembering, going back on one level to arguing on the playground about 'Star Wars' as a kid.' Read the interview with Rian Johnson at Rolling Stone. Chilean Star Cris MJ Drops ‘Apocalipsis,' His First Album Following ‘Gata Only' Success
Cris MJ is preparing for an apocalypse. On Friday, the Chilean star released his anticipated album Apcalipsis, his first full-length project since joining FloyyMenor on the smash hit 'Gata Only.' 'Apocalipsis is the most personal and ambitious thing I've done so far. It represents a new chapter in my life and career, a more mature stage where I dared to experiment with new sounds without losing my essence,' Cris said in a press statement about the record. 'I want my fans to feel the evolution, but also the energy I started with. I want the world to know that history is being made from Chile and made big.' Cris looked to the city of Paris for inspiration, drawing from its architecture and modernity and fusing that with his signature pop-reggaeton sound. Among the new songs bringing his high-energy reggaeton are 'Vamo a Bailotear,' 'Tercer Cielo,' and 'Maybach.' 'Every sound and every melody on this album is lovingly curated and dedicated to all of you,' he wrote to fans on Instagram earlier this week. The Chilean star, who found his first hit with 'Una Noche en Medellín' in 2022, last dropped a full LP in 2023, Partyson. (Karol G later remixed the song on her album Bichota Season with Ryan Castro.) Partyson also included his hits 'Diabólica' with Dei V and solo single 'Daytona.' His FloyyMenor collab has more than 1.6 billion streams on Spotify, and they followed it up with 'Después de la 1' last year.
