'Undercover officers in high viz vests (C8) a perfect oxymoron?' posits Susan Young of Kirribilli. 'Not as perfect as New York police officers (seen at the opening of the UN General Assembly) with 'Police Secret Service' emblazoned on their vests.'
'I went to buy some high viz, but I think I got stitched up because they saw me coming,' adds the vibrant John Perry of Newtown.
'The accounts of Caz Willis and Elaine Silversen regarding the task of helping plovers and ducks cross busy roads (C8) reminded me of a time on the Appin Road,' writes Anne McCarthy of Marrickville. 'To my passengers' bemusement, I suddenly pulled over, parked and raced to the middle of the road, stopping giant trucks to allow an echidna to waddle slowly across. As the bush on both sides was denuded and the animal was separated from family, its prospects were uncertain but at least it survived the day.'
Speaking of spiky friends, Vicky Marquis of Glebe claims that 'the first and only time I have seen an echidna in the wild (so to speak) was one crossing a busy road in Warriewood. It made its way to the other side.'
Jim Dewar of Davistown wants answers: 'Did Trump announce his ceasefire deal on Truce Social?'
Sometimes the term 'boomer' can be pretty bang-on. Here's some oblivious risk-taking from Robyn Lewis of Raglan: 'The cubby house stories (C8) remind me of my one in the late 1950s. It was a former hut used by workers on the property. It had an open fire which I fuelled with dieseline from a storage facility nearby. The flames not only kept me warm but gave me light. My mother recalls flames coming from the top of the chimney. I cannot imagine children now being subjected to such excitement.'
'Friends of mine travelling in the US recently were chatting among themselves when they attracted the attention of a young girl,' reports Peter Craig of Mollymook. 'After listening to them intently for a while, the small girl went back to her mother and exclaimed, 'Mom, they talk just like Bluey!''
Patricia Reed of Mosman 'loved Hopalong Cassidy (C8) who visited Australia was I was about five. I cried because he didn't bring Topper with him. The family stood hoping to catch a glimpse of 'Hoppy' as he was driven from Essendon Airport. Cried harder because we didn't see him either.'

Panic as passenger jet needs three attempts to land at Cristiano Ronaldo airport in high wind

Holidaymakers suffered a scary start to their vacation when their plane needed three attempts to land in high wind. Plane spotter Oksana Starykova watched from near Madeira's airport and filmed the TAP Air Portugal jet do two go-arounds before safely landing on the third attempt. Hair-raising footage showed the plane wobbling in the air while apparently being buffeted by strong winds. The pilot then aborted the landing and did a go-around for a second attempt. Oksana looked anxious as the jet swayed in the wind and even crossed her fingers for luck as the plane came in to land for the third time. She then cheered as the jet made a safe landing at the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport on the Portuguese island of Madeira on Sunday June 22. The airport is named after the Portuguese footballer, who was born on the island. Oksana, who lives in Madeira and works in tourism, told What's The Jam: 'Aviation is a real passion of mine, wherever I travel in the world, I always seek out the best plane spotting locations. 'Madeira's airport is particularly special for aviation enthusiasts due to its stunning location and challenging approach. Plane spotter Oksana Starykova watched from near Madeira's airport and filmed the TAP Air Portugal jet do two go-arounds before safely landing on the third attempt 'Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport is famous for being one of the more challenging airports in the world due to its mountainous terrain and coastal winds.' Commenting on the video, one local said: 'Madeira is one of the worst to land there, they say, it's common to see go-arounds there, scary.' 'I was there in 2022 and it was a bit creepy to land,' said Jonna. Madeira is one of the most dangerous airports in the world, due to the fact it's built over the ocean and has very strong crosswinds.

Tucker Carlson makes explosive claim about Murdoch 'plot against Donald Trump'

Tucker Carlson has sensationally claimed the Murdoch family asked him to run against Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. The former Fox News anchor said he flat-out rejected the idea after it was floated by Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch, the son of media titan Rupert Murdoch, a few weeks after Carlson's April 2023 ouster from the network. 'The Murdochs really hate Trump. There's no one who hates Trump more than the Murdochs,' Carlson said on his show Tuesday. Lachlan offered support for a potential Carlson bid from 'the whole Fox News apparatus,' including The Wall Street Journal, Carlson claimed. Carlson made the remarks during a conversation with fellow former Fox News host Clayton Morris, suggesting other on-air talent still at the network secretly despise Trump as well. 'I'm just offended watching these people who I know personally, and I know for a fact they hate Trump,' Carlson, 56, said. 'The Murdochs really hate Trump. There's no one who hates Trump more than the Murdochs. I mean, I got fired in April of 2023. Scroll down for video: 'In May of 2023, they asked me to run for president against Trump and said they would back me. Obviously, I'm not running for any, you know - I would never get elected. 'Plus, I like Trump. I mean, that's the funny thing,' Carlson added. 'Lachlan Murdoch said, "You should run for president. We'll back you, The whole thing. The whole Fox News apparatus. '"And not just Fox, but, you know, Wall Street Journal. All of their papers. We'll back you."' 'I was already gone - they'd already canceled my show. I was still under contract but they canceled my show.' Trump, 79, had announced his presidential bid in November 2022. The revelation come more than three years after Lachlan and Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott pulled the plug on Carlson's wildly successful primetime show. At the time, Fox had just paid a historic $787 million settlement to Dominion Voting Systems, which sued over claims the anchor and other hosts spread lies about its voting machines during the 2020 election. The suit was settled at the height of Carlson's success, and multiple text messages sent by the host to colleagues over the course of the 2020 election were made public during discovery. They revealed how Carlson despised Trump behind the scenes while singing his praises on-air. 'I hate him passionately,' he wrote of the president in private text messages sent on Jan. 4, 2021, after repeatedly decrying his claims the 2020 election was 'stolen.' 'I can't handle much more of this.' During an appearance on WABC radio in March 2023, Carlson said he was 'enraged' over his texts being revealed while attempting to walk them back. Rupert, 94, stepped down as chairman of News Corporation in September 2023, eight months before Lachlan, 53, allegedly extended the offer to Carlson. Carlson, meanwhile, has continued to criticize Trump in recent days for his posture toward the Middle East. Carlson on Tuesday slammed Fox News as a peddler of pro-war 'propaganda' and part of an effort to 'scare old people' as well. The Daily Mail has reached out to Fox for comment.
